1001 MATCHES: 7 to 100

(by PHIL RIPPA)

This will be the first of many 1001 Matches additions. If you missed me terribly explaining the list – CLICK THIS FIRST

Since I really like round numbers – and since Dean shot his wad on the board, here are the first seven post DVDVR 100 matches to get added to the 1001.

As per usual – the Master List will be updated (and the format will change a ton).

First are the two matches Dean couldn’t wait to post on the board

94) ATSUSHI ONITA vs. GREAT SASUKE – Michinoku Pro 10/30/94 (No Rope Barbed Wire Exploding Landmine Double Hell Death Match)

https://youtu.be/sSxNIocgKlg

I know we reviewed this… somewhere. Eventually I will find that review and edit this. But yeah – we all probably should have realized Sasuke was crazy far earlier than we actually did.

95) ATSUSHI ONITA vs. HAYABUSA – FMW May 5, 1995 (No Rope Barbwire Electrified Exploding Cage Death Match)

This is from Onita’s retire…. hehehehehehe… I couldn’t even get through that with out laughing. Onita “Retirement Show”. BAHU has a far better review of the entire match.

96) KAZ HAYASHI vs. RAVEN – WCW WORLDWIDE (3/20/99)

I ended up having to upload this match because I hyped it up so much and folks seemed to have never seen it. It really is an amazing 90 second sprint. I have no idea why Raven wanted to put over Kaz so heavy but I am glad he did. I also don’t know why Kaz wanted to die this day but the Worldwide crowd will never forget it. One day when we do a Greatest Matches in Worldwide history piece – this is going Top 5.

97) JAVIER CRUZ vs. CICLONE RAMIREZ – CMLL 6/7/94 (Hair Match)

Folks often say they don’t “get” lucha. I really don’t think you need to “get” it to appreciate the hate and the blood that fills this match. You really want every Hair match ever to be this way. It is never too late to hop on the Javier Cruz bandwagon people. Really criminal that this isn’t online. I am going to have to fix that.

98) AMERICAN DRAGON vs. LOW KI – ECWA SUPER 8 FINALS (2/24/01)

Some may argue that there are better Dragon/Ki matches and I might not necessarily disagree with them. But this will always hold a special place in our hearts. Read the Road Report if you never have.

99) BILLY ROBINSON vs. NICK BOCKWINKEL – AJPW (12-11-1980)

https://youtu.be/lmY8IMmdhFo

Billy Robinson is a guy I wished I had known about earlier. I really can’t get enough Billy Robinson. And he is one of those opponents I was talking about for Bockwinkel were I go “Oooh… this will be good.” Matt would still like you to explain to him how there are 14 better All Japan matches from the 80s than this one.

100) BATTEN TWINS vs. BEAU JAMES/KC THUNDER – SSW 5/12/01 (Loser Leaves Town Cage Match)

The version up on the internet sucks so buy Schneider Comp #20 and you can see the whole thing. I am not sure how much better this could be. I am kinda sad that one of the Battens is no longer with us.
