  1. If something comes out in Oscar season, now you're in a virtual race to beat out the piracy market releasing a DVD screener.

The other issue with Oscar season is a lot of those movies run limited release runs until they are announced as award nominees, so smaller markets can only see those films by either being on vacation in a decent market or by pirating them.

  2.

And don't release the fucking DVD weeks after the theater run.

I don't think that would work now since people are trained to wait 3 to 3 1/2 months for the DVD/BluRay to come out and you'll never get them out of that mindset. Maybe it's a defeatist attitude, but studio execs are thinking "at least they spent money on the movie in some form".

I somewhat agree with this. We have taught our culture to wait for the release date. The film community would need to educate its audience that films are initially intended to be scene within the cinema, but I think we are at the point of no return for a reeducation process like that to actually work.

I know too many people who say, "oh, I'll just wait for it on Red Box, so I only have to pay a $1.50 or whatever).

Nothing like being the face of the company for almost ten years, only to have some famous old timer come in, take over the company, and call you a young up and comer...

I have for years dreamed of being the guy to handle creative for TNA. I don't think I could do worse than anyone they've had in years.

Frankly I think we should give this a pass. The guy's suffering enough of his dream is to handle creative for TNA. Let's just let it go.

Dreamed is a bit of a stretch, but I have thought "It could be fun" just in random discussions about wrestling in general.

I do not disagree with this at all. I have been a huge AJ mark for years. I sadly have not watched a lot of what he's done in recent years due to TNA being unwatchable.

I was tickled to death when I met him at a local indie show that I helped work at in 2005.

I think my point was that "I could see some people seeing this as being someone who is disgruntled," but if you follow TNA even as loosely as I do, you can tell that he's not wrong.

It will be interesting if popular word of mouth and viral discussions about Edge of Tomorrow give it a strong second weekend where it maybe matches what it did this past weekend.

I think that would be a big win for that film.

The reviews are pretty positive overall, so I expect it will make steady money for its lenght of release.  Depending on the numbers, that is usually better than having a monster opening weekend and then fizzling out.

Cruise mentioned that in his Nerdist discussion about how movies today seem to be "you get one weekend, and that's that." He always longs for it to be similar to how movies could hold their vale for weeks and even months.

Obviously, films make a lot more money now due to inflation than they did back then, however.

I'm fine with the Order being RE 1886 if it plays well. I'm really into The Evil Within. Sure it looks like it contains many genre tropes but I don't care I like survival horror games.

The new Arkham game looks amazing. I wonder though does Rocksteady just keep making these games? After this I think I'd like to see them try something else.

Yeah, I don't get the souring on The Order. This is what it looked to be setting up from day one. Anochronistic weaponry and werewolves. It doesn't hurt that it's possibly the best looking console game to they've shown so far, either.

Rainbow 6: Siege looks like it will be a blast online. Really dependent on with whom you play, though, so getting DVDVR crews going on both PS4 and Xbone will be a good idea.

I wish I could remember the hands on review I read a couple of months ago that stated the issues with the game they noticed.

Very little of it had to do with them changing the style of the play or expectations of it being a more true to form shooter vs. an RE style game.

EDIT: I think this was it...

Terminator 3 was actually better than Avatar. I mean, you tell me which one you're going to sit through late at night after you dig some cold pizza out of the fridge. It ain't pretty but generic plot Avatar.

Most likely neither.  Only time I watch Terminator 3 is if I go crazy and decide I need to watch the entire franchise.

Avatar was definitely better, but christ it's long.

Once I got past the eye candy, I found Avatar to be atrocious. I would choose T-3 any day of the week if those were my only two choices.

  8. Teaching Mrs. Tingle - Saw the name Katie Holmes somewhere and thought "Hey, what movies does she have on Netflix" and this one came up.  Decided to watch it for some reason.  20 minutes in, I was in awe of its suckiness, complete with the entire gamut of Katie Holmes mannerisms that can be really annoying.  Anyway, didn't bother finishing it.  No rating...but this movie sucks.

That very much fell in the category of '90s/early 00s teen movie. Barring a few exceptions, the late '90s/early 2000s was not a great decade.

  9. And next we get a long gameplay trailer for...The Order: 1886.  Hey look, it's Next of Us with Civil War-looking dudes and higher resolution.  Am sure that's a crowd pleasure but not so much for me.

I was really pumped for The Order last year, but it has been delayed so many times, and all of the "hands on" previews have made the project sound like a disaster.

It could be a fun game to experiment with as a PS+ game some day I guess.

  10.

My wife has one and loves it.

That is my biggest hangup with it is the fact that it is plastic and it is obviously more geared towards women.

I guess I need to get past that misogynist aspect of things.

Wouldn't an inexpensive case largely solve that problem?

Yeah, I quit using the case after I broke the front of my screen. It sucks because I had the phone for almost two years before I broke it.

Heck, even in its current condition, I could throw it on ebay and still get $100 for it after getting another phone.

  11. I think Keith David played the Arbiter in Halo 2 and Halo 3, so I guess the Aribter comes back for Halo 5.

Dammit, this Halo announcement is making it hard for me not to drop $400 on a console that I can't afford.

  12. Does anyone have an iPhone 5c? My 4S is a good bit shattered, and I am too broke to go for a 32 GB 5s at the moment, but the $100 off would make the 5c $99.99. I am thinking about getting one, using it for a few months, and then selling it whenever the iPhone 6 comes out later this fall. I just need something to hold me over until that point.

  13. I have watched most of the big stuff from this decade, but I quit making lists for wrestling ages ago, so I am not sure what I would rank where.

I agree that the Shawn/Taker XXVI match is better than their XXV match.

Bryan and Cesaro is a great match, but can we honestly list it as an individual match? It is part of a gauntlet series and one of the more compelling hours of RAW all of last year.

  14. I could not afford to pull off Roo this year. I know. I am super depressed about this subject. It has strengthened my resolve to pull it off next year with maybe even a VIP upgrade (actual toilets, you say?).

I hope everyone going has a fantastic time. Happy Bonnaroo! I wish I was high fiving people on the way to the arch.

Also, I may try to pull off Music Midtown this year. Not the same experience, but it is an inexpensive festival.

  15. I guess I did not feel the love for last night's episode that many others here did. With how everything is playing out in King's Landing and Essos, a whole episode on the wall just felt weirdly placed to me. It feels like we go a couple of hours on this series without visiting Castle Black, and then it's like "oh yeah, we should probably return there." I understand Martin's books are even worse about this (I've only read the first quarter of GOT).

Obviously, there were some cool moments here, and the battle itself felt like the Helm's Deep scene from Two Towers without some of the comedy.
