  1. Thankfully I left X-Men off my RT list since I probably would have given it a pretty low rating. Regretfully I don't see not paying for putting ASM2 at #1 on my box office list and Godzilla at #10.

I decided to use the same list of films for both lists because I had assumed that was what we were supposed to be doing.

My RT list would have probably included the more daring stuff like Lucy and Jupiter Ascending.

  2.

    Thoughts?

I am going to get in so much trouble this fall..

BABY, I CANNOT TALK ON THE PHONE RIGHT NOW~!  WHY DO YOU ALWAYS CALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A FUCKING RAID~???

My fiancee didn't react too kindly when I told some people that I might not have much of a social life once this game comes out for a few months.

  3. That IGN list thus far is weird. There's a lot of stuff that I think we could have found other games to fill that void.

I hope Halo 3 being so far back is because both Reach and 4 will be ranked ahead of it.

Both games have better Campaigns, and I really love the multiplayer for 4.

  4.

Of course both will be successful, nice strawman. (the $500 PS3 version had a stupid small hard drive and no HDMI port, no one wanted that shit :P. I mean a bluray player with no HDMI port, Sony was just being silly. I don't even remember stores stocking it much.) The 360 blew the PS3 out of the water at launch and by all figures they never lost the lead in North America, its a domino effect that can continue through a cycle even after the price is adjusted. And of course it is damage control, Microsoft saw they goofed and are now making adjustments like any company should when they goof. They never should have required Kinect or charged for using Netflix in the first place, their new leadership may have been just what they needed if the decision did come from that high up. And if you come up with silly sarcastic "look at me I'm cute" statements you may get labeled as an Xbox apologist, not my fault.

Really though I dunno why this is a different thread, I don't have merge powers here apparently.

Yes the 20gb launch version of the ps3 had an HDMI port. And you can't really say the 360 blew the ps3 out of the water at launch because it had been out for a full year already.

Honestly, for about a year, the Wii blew both consoles out of the water due to price point and a great marketing ploy from Nintendo.

I worked at least two, maybe three, Christmas seasons where I had a waiting list of people looking for the Wii.

The PS3 here locally did very poorly because the $500 20GB version was not even worth considering, and the 60 GB version was $200 more expensive than the 360 at the time.

  5. I caught Jacob's Ladder last night for the first time in many, many years. Do not wish that experience on anybody but the one time. It will destroy you, mark my words.

I watched it for the DVDVRMC a long time ago. I do not remember it having a huge affect on me, but it was in a period where I watched a lot of that ilk.

    I probably should revisit it.

  6.

It's also not as big of a deal as it was before it launched anyway as most reviews of the game say it didn't quite live up to the hype.

Wait what? Which reviews were these? Certainly not any I read.

The Reviews for the game were top notch, but I would say the excitement/hype for the game quickly fizzled more quickly for a well-reviewed Blockbuster game normally does.

It sounds like after a couple of weeks that people felt the game was insanely limited due to lack of maps/options.

  7.

Apparently, CBS wanted them to reshoot the pilot which had some flaws, but Bays and Thomas didn't want to reshoot without getting picked up.

I think they wanted them to recast it too.

Maybe they decided Gerwig was too "indie" or something?

CBS's new motto should be: if it's on our network and actually good, we got lucky.

  8.

Which is funny because a little over a month ago you could have bought the Titanfall bundle with the Kinect for $450, and it would have been a better deal.

Are they getting destroyed in the console sales market?

I want to say I live in a more than normal gamer heavy market, and I can occasionally walk in a store and find an Xbox One for sale. Not so much with a PS4.

They've fallen behind quite a bit in console sales for sure.

Also I thought the titanfall bundle was the same price as the normal ($499)

When Titanfall released or shortly thereafter, they ran a sale for a couple of weeks at $450.

    Target

    Amazon

    New Egg

Wal Mart and a few others had it.

  10. I still think King Kong is pretty handily his best film, but to each their own.

These two Hobbit films have had a few sparks of life here and there, but boy do they drag.

It's honestly a film I have always meant to revisit on Blu Ray. I saw it during its DVD release and have not bothered to watch it since.

Also, three friends sitting on a couch watching a three hour movie generally kills the enjoyment because we are thinking about whether we should start up a Texas hold em game or go back to playing Madden.

  11.

Godzilla is at 86% Fresh so far.  The first list breaker of the pool?

Right now we have 34 people in the pool, 31 of them put Godzilla on their RT list, and 19 of those people have it in the top 5.  So it's going to hurt some people, but most of them are ok.  I'm thinking Bryan Cranston has enough of a reputation that it was tough to put it too low.

Rotten Tomatoes always tends to start rather high for early reviews. Most of the early stuff tends to be smaller websites that are more fan-boy related. At 21 Reviews, I would say it's safe to say the movie hasn't found its maturity point as far as Rotten Tomatoes goes. I would guess it falls into the low or mid 70s by Monday.

  12. The new Hobbit movies are unwatchable.  Lots of flash, lots of action, but there's nothing that really holds my interest despite my overall fondness for the source material.  In fact, it was pretty much the same reaction I had to Jackson's "King Kong" remake - sitting there watching everything on the screen and repeatedly thinking, "Boy, this just keeps going don't it."

King Kong takes a giant nose-dive for me after he fights the T-Rexes. That was a great action sequence and then the rest of the film happened.

  13. I am completely taking a stab in the dark with this one. These films, especially on the rotten tomatoes side really feel like they are going to bunch together in the 40-60% range on RT, and there are very few films on this list that makes this feel like an exceptional summer quality-wise. I accidentally ranked the 18 films remaining and had to quickly pull three.

Tiebreaker: X-Men Days of Future Past: $141,500,000

  14. I cringed when they announced it as a two part film. When they expanded it to three, I knew this was going to be a rough outing.

I'll end up seeing Battle of the Five Armies because my fiancee enjoys the series, but she also was feeling weighted down half-way through this one,

  15. I watched Desolation of Smaug last night with my fiancee, and I wrote these thoughts on Facebook:

We are nearing the end of this one, and I can't help but to feel that this trilogy is unnecessary. Spreading this story across three films, one cannot help but to notice how drawn out and unnecessary a lot of scenes in this turn out to be. It's basically the Star Wars Prequels all over again

    Expanded Thoughts:

Best scenes of both films thus far:

    Riddles in the Dark

    The Barrels scene

    Bilbo's first encounter with Smaug

I think this would be a much more enjoyable film-going experience had Jackson just stuck strictly to the less than 200 page novel and focused on a much tighter story than what we have been given with these three films.

Also, I found myself going "Dammit, Kate" during quite a few Evangeline Lily scenes in this.

  16. I watched The Past last night and really enjoyed it. Here were my scattered thoughts on Letterbox.

Farhadi delivers a strong follow up to 2011's A Separation with The Past. He takes what could have easily become a tedious, boring piece of film making and delivers one of the most captivating films of 2013. The dynamics of all of these characters throughout the film is very natural and real. As an audience member, the histories of these characters felt alive and real as if these actors were not only together just for a few weeks of production. The movie does struggle and drag slightly as it concludes its third act but not enough to prevent me from wholeheartedly recommend you check this movie out if you see it available. Also, check out A Separation, which may end up on many top ten of the 2010s lists when the end of 2019 rolls around.
