  1. I have reached the first Boss Fight in Deus Ex: HR. It's fucking murderous.

Like, in a game with controls that make sense, it would be very difficult. But this game has controls that don't make sense. Allow me to explain.

It's a First Person Shooter, but you aren't a Bullet Sponge, so you have to use the cover mechanic. L1 makes you go into cover, which also shifts it from 1st person to 3rd person. R1 is shoot and R2 is throw a grenade. But just pressing them is blind firing from cover, so you have to use the movement stick to pop up or around from cover.

It's just, the way games work, you expect L1 to be AIM, not cover. And if you need to run away from the cover (like if someone throws a grenade at you), it drops you from first person to third person as soon as you release L1, so you can't really tell... there's no way to run around the pillar in such a way as to interpose it between you and the enemy, because you can't see both the pillar and the enemy at the same time, or tell where your character is in relation to them. And you're getting shot the whole time, in a game where you can't absorb damage without dying.

Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher was King vs. Armor King in Tekken and I don't give a fuck what that implies because I loved it and the crowd did, too.

King from Tekken is who Brian Cage's gear was homaging.

The thing about the Hollaholla tag match opener was, they didn't do the trope of making it the main event and teasing if Swerve and Joe could coexist all night. It just happened, and neither Joe nor Swerve actually made any attempt at coexisting. No double teams, only one tag, and that was involuntary. Taven and Bennett are presented as weak opponents who rely on distraction and interference, so the "Top tag team shouldn't lose to two singles guy" rule doesn't apply here.

  3. The second half of AJW Wrestling Queendom Victory 1995:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGPQjYK6RD8

    • IWA World Title Triangle Match: Takako Inoue (c) vs. Toshiyo Yamada vs. Reggie Bennett
    • Lioness Asuka vs. Yumiko Hotta
    • WWF World Women's Title Match: Bull Nakano (c) vs. Kyoko Inoue
    • WWWA World Title Match: Aja Kong (c) vs. Manami Toyota
Now the Triangle match is way better than most traingle matches, because it's not a Triangle match. It's a Winner Stays on 3 woman Gauntlet. To win, you have to beat both opponents consecutively.

  4. Light tubes only contain trace levels of mercury. If they didn't, Jun Kasai would have died of Mercuy poisoning by now.

But yes, the deathmatch promotions don't pierce the tubes before they're used (taking the ends off would be more dangerous). There is a feeling that the clouds of Spooky Dust are a great visual.

The "primadonna" stuff feels unearned, too.  Yes, using real glass is stupid (IF in fact that was the issue...nobody is using actual glass panes, they're all using safety glass with the exception of your dumbest shindies) but CM Punk is not the booker or creative staff.  Take the glass out of it and you have an old head, not known for his sparkling personality or diplomatic prowess, seemingly big leaguing a younger guy and telling him how to do his match.  I'd be a little peeved, too.

The Jungle Boy glass spot Phil got hot about was with glass bottles, not glass panes.

Panes are pretty rare even in deathmatch feds. They're a lot more expensive than light tubes, and light tubes are safer to work with, provided you remember not to jab with them.

I think you touched on one of the big issues with WCW. WCW was the workrate promotion that wasn't...For all of the name value the talent had, nobody could deliver satisfying matches.

Randy Savage had a few good ones in that era of WCW. Scott Hall could go when he wanted to. Sting always had it, never lost it.

The thing was, if you've got Hogan and Nash on top, they were both at the time utterly determined to be less than carryable.

  7. Now obviously the Mania week indie show we care the most about already has it's own thread in Wrestling General, but there's going to be other shows. And I'm pretty sure none of the mods want anyone bumping last year's thread for this year's shows, so here we are. Anyway:

    Image

ETU is doing an ETU vs Dragon Gate show on the Saturday, and that's your main event.

Looks like Danny Demanto vs Ultimo Dragon is also on the show, so if you haven't seen Asai live and want to be able to say you have, there you go.

  8. Yes. Everything that gets streamed on IWTV gets added to the archive (other than if the promotion leaves the platform, which doesn't seem likely for Action wrestling). Not always right away, sometimes it takes a couple of days. Sometimes the stream will end at 2200 EST and be available on demand by the next morning.
