  1. Nah, it was definitely the '77 series I was thinking of. I searched up its opening, and I remember that shot of The Riddler in a pink costume. (As a kid, I was annoyed that he never actually showed up in the show.)

Of course, cartoons bounced around in reruns for years back then. Most likely it reached a station I had access to in the early eighties or something.

AR Fox-Kevin Knight and Blake Christian-Bowens were both really good

I don't know. I question whether this was the right time for Anthony Bowens to give that much of the match to a jobber. They presumably have big plans for him, and I don't think he's well established enough to help Blake out that way without hurting himself.

not ranked: The Batman (2022) as i haven't seen it and don't plan to.

It's better than you'd probably expect. I had no interest in a dark and gritty take on The Riddler, but it was available on a plane ride once so I gave it a shot. It wasn't bad. If I made a list, it would probably land between halfway down and a quarter from the top. Maybe.

The New Adventures of Batman (1977) - 3/5. this brings back Adam West & Burt Ward to the role. It's fine. It's probably worse than the prior series, but the novelty of having West & Ward back works for me. Notable for introducing Bat-Mite.

Batman: TAS (1992) - 5/5. along with X-Men TAS, THE staple of my childhood TV viewing habits.

Were there really no animated Batman series between '77 and '92? I was born in 1974, and I remember a new Batman cartoon debuting when I was, like, six or eight or something. Not three.

But I did some Googling, and it seems the '77 series was the one I remember. Huh.

I don't see characters enjoying violence on a TV show or as a "combat sport" (depending on what mental path you take to watch wrestling, I'm more a 'live action fake TV show' guy myself) as a bad thing or an "incel" thing, hadn't see that take before with wrestlers that just enjoy hurting people, its not an unusual gimmick.

Oh, just having characters like that isn't a bad thing. But I think it debatably becomes problematic if you treat those characters as faces. I mean, real-life people who enjoy beating people up and brag about how they hurt people are generally not great folks.

I'd much rather that then the HS winning each week because MVP bopped someone with his cane that he doesn't actually need, its one of the more simple yet effective gimmicks in AEW.

I agree here too - the Hurt Syndicate are more interesting heels the way they are than if they relied on bullshit to win their matches. (Tangent: I think the biggest problem with the Death Riders angle is that Mox keeps needing to be saved from losing his title. For the angle to work as well as it should, the Riders need to be seen as a massive threat to everyone, not a bunch of punks who need to rely on oustide interference to win anything. And Mox has for years been one of the most strongly pushed characters in AEW; it's not like it would kill off all their babyfaces to have them lose to him cleanly. Or closer to cleanly - having Mox do over-the-top vicious things during matches behind the ref's back would work better than his constantly being saved by others.)

MJF and Hurt Syndicate are perfect for each other.  Both are one dimensional and feel like they’re written to appeal to incels.  MJF is an uncool person’s idea of what a cool guy is like and Hurt Syndicate are the weak man’s idea of strong, tough men.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I doubt MJF is written to appeal to incels. Seems to me he's written to disgust normal people. The fact that he appeals to part of the audience is an unfortunate side effect.

The Hurt Syndicate strikes me as more problematic, as they are booked as quasi-faces. Much like the Blackpool Combat Club were faces for much of their reign. Enjoying violence for its own sake is rarely treated as a heel attribute in pro wrestling, even though it's a fairly awful attitude to have in real life.

I agree, but at the same time, it's not like Ricky Steamboat wasn't also a world champion.

Oh, sure. I'm still mulling over how much I agree with zendragon's assessment of Steamboat - there's likely an argument to be made that he was a draw in his own right too. I know as a kid I was a huge Steamboat mark, though of course that's just one data point.

I think Foley is another great contender for this.  Without Foley, I don't know if The Rock, HHH, or the Undertaker gets over as a worker as well as a character.  He also did really good work with Sting and Vader in WCW.

On the other hand, Bischoff revealing that Foley was winning the world title on Raw supposedly led to Nitro taking its first ratings loss in, like, a year or something. So I'd say there's some evidence of Foley being a draw himself, albeit not on the level of Rock or Austin.

    - I think folks are really underplaying Storm/Bayne. That match was phenomenal. Easily the MOTN to me and even a potential MOTY for AEW in my book. I think with every other match on the show, you could point to this or that element not working or a bad booking decision or a lack of crowd engagement, but I found no such issues in the Women's World Championship match. Great storytelling, great character work, a bunch of awesome sequences and good signature offense out of Toni and a genuine "Oh Shit" moment in Bayne kicking out of the Storm Zero at 1. I guess maybe one could've asked for a more unique finish/pinning combo, but that feels a bit nitpicky.

Toni beating Megan with a package roll-up reminded me of Cena beating Umaga with a school boy in their first match. And based on Dynamite it seems Megan Bayne's title aspirations remain intact. So if this is leading to a Texas Death Match between them at Double or Nothing, I say hell yeah.

I actually got a bigger kick out of Mark asking the team what they'd spend their share of the 400K on and Speedball excitedly shouts, "SHOES"

Yeah! I can't find the post, but does anybody else remember somebody recentishly commenting on how everybody thinks Speedball looks like a dork, but after they see a few of his matches his work turns them around? Because his work hasn't done that for me, but that line got me a lot of the way there. If he's actually wearing shoes the next time we see him, I'm in.

So Anarchy in the Arena and Blood & Guts will see Death Riders/Young Bucks vs ?. Forbidden Door Jon Moxley will defend the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship likely against someone from NJPW and then hopefully loses it at All In likely to Will Ospreay. Fuck. Hangman Adam Page is my first choice then Darby Allin.

Forbidden Door is in August this year, after All In in July.

I fell most of the way asleep during the show and missed most of Jericho-Bandido, Garcia-Cole, and the three-way. I saw the results though. (I then paused the show and went to bed, watching the main event this afternoon.) Are any of those three matches worth watching when I already know who won?

And one thought: I'm amazed so many people are complaining about poor booking in the main event, when earlier in the night they put a singles title on Adam Cole. You all have some weird standards.

    Dude, I still don't understand what a "Rouge-like" is.

Unclear if you're making a spelling joke or if you're genuinely unfamiliar with Rogue-likes.

Though I can't help you if it's the latter, as I don't understand the term either. You'd think it would mean "game whose 'graphics' are ASCII-based", but it doesn't appear to.

I think I'm with the Natural on Mercedes over Julia, but I get this sense that they could have Athena/Mercedes knock each other out of the tournament with shenanigans. This of course if it's a non-title match - do we know?

I'm not aware of their having advertised it as anything but a first-round Owen Cup match. So presumably it's non-title.

That reminds me, i’ve never seen their signs or location, but I have seen their truck a lot around me, there is a Mario Bros paint contractor near me.  Yeah, good luck trying to Google that business.

Do you live in Maryland? Because just to see, I started typing "Mario Brothers Painting" into Google and when I was partway through "Painting" Google did suggest a paint contractor in Maryland. https://mariobrotherspainting.com/

Bicentennial Man is a really good movie. I think it got hurt by marketing if I remember the commercials showing it as a wacky Robin Williams movie. It has a lot of layers to it in reality.

Huh. Sounds like it may actually be a decent adaptation then. I might have to give it a chance some day.

Jon Moxley is retaining the AEW World Championship vs. Swerve Strickland regrettably, right? Fuck.

Probably? But in my opinion, this is the first title defense of this reign where Moxley could plausibly lose. I suspect he'll retain, but I wouldn't call it a lock.

The Donkey Kong game does look cool but DK hasn't ever been on Mario and Zelda's level and wouldn't be a Day 1 purchase for me.

Man, Mario debuted in Donkey Kong! And now he's out there acting like he's not only on a level above DK, but like DK hasn't ever been on his level? Fuck that guy.

"On Tuesday, The Dallas Morning News reported that AEW All In: Texas at Globe Life Field in Arlington on July 12 will have a special early start time. The pay-per-view will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time, or 2 p.m. local Central time. Additionally, a week of shows leading up to the big event has also been announced."

Apropos of little, I Googled "July 12" and the "AI" summary told me that July 12, 2025 was a Friday. I had to check my calendar to confirm it was actually a Saturday.

I realize the programs people are widely calling "AI" these days are far from being AI, but ye gods, how hard could it be to have the system get that question right?

I've been thinking Perry is coming back when those good Christian Jackson boys return.

Hmm. All three guys' characters were part of the same faction when they were last seen, so bringing them back together would make sense, yeah. And Jungle Jack getting sick of the Bucks and turning on them would be a good way to get him back as a face without feeling like he's going backwards. Then of course you could re-team him with Luchasaurus, at least for the duration of the Bucks feud, for the nostalgia pop. I like it.
