  1. Also, modern technology does not necessarily make for a more beautiful film.

Of course. I don't believe they're reasons that will 100% work. There are no sure bets in creative endeavors. I'm saying these should be the motives for trying. Instead the motive is money, and that's the ultimate problem. When looking for something to remake, why not take a movie that inspires you to do it again? The Cell is a great example. I LOVE aspects of that movie, but they don't add up. Or, for an even odder example Jonah Hex, which was a great premise and a HORRIBLE movie. One of the worst I've ever seen. And yet, I wish I could grab Josh Brolin and do it all over again. Friday the 13th Part IV, is another one.I just want to see artists innovate. We have more tools than ever to do so, and we don't, at least not as much as I'd like. I'd rather see artists remake a movie that actually inspired them to do so, than remake a movie because a studio believes it will make money.
  2. I think it's a great movie. The lead performance is fucking awesome, the hammer scene is one of my favorite fights in cinema in the last 10 years probably, and Park has a very awesome aesthetic and dark dark humor. I'd recommend it, but it's up to you if you think any of that sounds like fun.

  3. The ending was just added by the studio, though. That's still not a reason to remake it.

For the record, I'm not against remakes either - one of my favourite films, The Thing, is a remake. I just massively disagree with "It was made during the Hays Code era so let's remake it with added sex and violence" theory.

I'm not saying every movie that was made then needs to be remade, I'm just saying it's a more interesting time to mine stories to remake, as opposed to looking at SuperHero movies and great foreign films.

And it's not really about sex/violence either. It's about adding more moral ambiguity to characters. Or refilming a film with modern technology to create a possibly more beautiful work.

Of course all of these ideas would just be boiled down to sex/violence/3D.

  4. Here's the thing and a question that creative has to ask themselves.. can the Wyatt Family work in this TV-PG environment? Since 2008 WWE has not tried to push the envelop of what is allowed under a PG TV rating..  I'm not saying they needed to bloody Kane up but the beat down was very generic. It needed to raise some eyebrows.

Here's what you're gonna get, bub. The same wacky Bray Wyatt promos that people love. Some beat downs just like you saw Monday. And Bray Wyatt trading wins with Kofi Kingston 456 times over the next three years.

  5. Man Luke Gallows should totally be brought back to join the Wyatt Crew. It's perfect for his character. First he was a doped up country boy. Then Punk cleaned him up and gave him a purpose. Then the WWE fired him. Then he hit the road and found his way into Bray Wyatt's arms. Luke Gallows could have one of the greatest henchman character arcs ever if this were to happen.

  6. Because they were fine the way they were. I'm not sure what a modern remake of Freaks would bring to the table that the original didn't possess.

Also, what shitty directors are you referring to? Isn't this also a problem in this day and age? I don't really understand what point you're making.

I'm saying if you're going to remake movies, remake ones that could actually be improved on. Freaks has a lot of problems in the last act because censorship. Actually that's the case for a lot of movies, where they have to soft shoe around issues or create a nice happy ending that comes from left field.

Peyton Place is another example. It was based on a book and eliminated A TON of controversial shit. It was still loved by critics, but it would be a more interesting choice for a remake than another Anna Kareninananana(I actually really want to see the new one).

I actually like the idea of remakes. What if Terrance Mallick remade Edwards Scissorshands? I'd watch that. Who wouldn't? I just think they're not being creative enough with their remakes. Spike Lee/Brolin doing Oldboy is the first remake team I've heard in a long time that got me interested in what they could do. I say remake everything. If anything people will just learn to appreciate the good stuff even more.

  7. You might be able to answer this better than most people, but why didn't the Bulls just keep Aldridge instead of trading him for Tyrus Thomas?

The word was that they never intended to keep Aldridge and that they just drafted him for Portland. I have no idea why. All I know is that if they hadn't fucked up, we wouldn't have gotten D-Rose, so it worked out pretty nice. It'd be insane if we can get him back, but I'm not holding my breath.

What's it like Jae?  Being optimistic about your team's future?

What's it like to beat Lebron James in the playoffs?

  8. Why does no one want to go to Chicago?

We don't have any money because of Boozer's magic bean contract. Aldridge wanted to come over but we couldn't get the pieces right.

We're pretty much locked into this core group for one more season, which isn't bad if D-Rose sets foot on the court and doesn't fall into a billion pieces. In 2014 we'll amnesty Boozer and we'll finally bring in Nikola Mirotic to see if he's the real or the jabroni. Deng will probably be gone too and we'll use his money to go hunting for another big fish. As a fan, I'm in a pretty good spot as my team willactually be competitive next season(as opposed to tanking) and will hopefully be better the season after.

  9. If it makes it any better, I've been playing football with him at the park and He can throw a nice spiral. I'm hoping to take him there and get a starting gig. Has no known concussion problems and understands the concept of not throwing to people in non-Bears Jerseys. He also won't take up a lot of cap space as he'll gladly work for Legos and Marvel Action figures.

  10. Has anyone here actually gone to a training camp practice?

Because I'm thinking about going to Bourbonnais and camping at Kankakee river and taking the boy to watch Da Bears.

  11. Watched Redline. That was crazy as shit and a lot of fun. The ending was hilarious.

We started watching Baka and Test on Netflix Instant last night. The whole family thinks it's funny, and the one pervy dude's massive nosebleeds will never get old with me.

  12. Holy cow that Out of the Furnace cast... I thought it was awesome and then Sam Shephard showed up and made it awesomer.

I've always contended that Hollywood is missing out on a goldmine by not re-making B-movie with today's A-list budgets.  They could go to town on a lot of the old film noirs.

I KNOW. The Fly is a great example of taking an old B movie and doing it up right. And there's plenty of noir's that had to change a lot of key elements because of the Code that could be done up. Maybe it's too niche now.

  13. The Oldboy trailer is better than I would have imagined.  Still, I'm not entirely sold on a remake.  The original was good enough for me.

The Original is one of my favorite movies, so yeah, I don't need a remake either. But I am interested in Spike Lee and Brolin doing their take on it, whether it's great or shitty. It just seems like a peculiar experiment worth seeing.

Something I don't understand is why they don't remake old movies that could actually use some remaking because of constraints on the original. For example movies that got their balls cut off by the Hays Code, or budget constraints, or a shitty director. Kind of like how they remade The Postman Always Rings Twice and amp'd up the sex(I actually still like the original better). I think a good example would be FREAKS.

I bet if they remade Battlefield Earth more people would go see it than the original.

  14. Holy shit, have we always been able to change the skin of this board?????

I feel bad for you if you were stuck using the sterile operation room white them on the last board. Because the two black themes were aces.

Right now Manly Red Green is option A. The Phoenix theme popped some capillaries in my eyes.

  15. So many people are saying they want to post more about the rasslin' they're watching. Do it.

I watched Drake Younger vs. Abdullah Kobayashi from last year. Younger took a hypodermic needle in his throat. I thought that spot was dumb. I actually dig deathmatch stuff, and the whole match wasn't totally bad, but sometimes it feels like circus geeks would be laughing at these guys.

I watched Okada vs. Goto from last year too. I'm not buying Okada yet as a great wrestler. He's not bad, he's just not the total package I was told he was.

I've been watching a lot of 2012 Japanese stuff. I'm struggling to get interested in WWE. I'm working more so my watching is limited, and so far puroresu or Old School US, are the only things I'll use that time for.

Any good indy shit on youtube? Who's good these days?

What are the rest of you assholes watching?
