  1. The Athletic today has a story that confirms that Jordan Hudson was the reason the UNC Hard Knocks was killed (amongst other issues)

This winter, producers at N.F.L. Films decided that a new season of its sports docuseries, “Hard Knocks,” would focus on Mr. Belichick’s efforts to build the U.N.C. football program ahead of the 2025 season. HBO agreed to air it.
But days before they were set to announce the series, Ms. Hudson demanded she be granted content approval and partial ownership of the show, according to a person familiar with the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized by producers to speak to a reporter.

    N.F.L. Films pulled the plug.

The producers later learned that Ms. Hudson was also in negotiations with another production company, EverWonder, to make a similar series, according to the person familiar with the situation. Ian Orefice, the chief executive of EverWonder, declined to comment.

By the spring, Ms. Hudson was focused on applying for a slew of trademarks for phrases associated with Mr. Belichick’s leadership of the Patriots, including “No Days Off,” and “Do Your Job” — presumably to parlay them into content and merchandising opportunities

Trouble is, the Patriots have held the trademarks on these phrases for years. So Ms. Hudson took a page from Ms. Swift, who rerecorded some of her albums as “(Taylor’s Version)” after her original recordings were sold without her involvement or financial participation.

Ms. Hudson applied for trademarks on “No Days Off (Bill’s Version),” and “Do Your Job (Bill’s Version),” among several others.

Ms. Hudson’s role in Mr. Belichick’s affairs truly exploded into public view last month, when CBS News aired its interview with Mr. Belichick. “We’re not talking about this,” she interjected sternly when the reporter Tony Dokoupil asked him how the romance began.

  2. Kolton Wong retired over the weekend saving me from the yearly dance of considering adding him to my fantasy team when it inevitably gets ravaged by injuries

  3. Per Adam Schefter - NFL owners are expected to approve today the ability for NFL players to play flag football in the 2028 Summer Olympics

Gonna be real interesting to see the loop holes nations use to fill out their rosters with nothing but NFL players

  4. I will put this here for lack of a better place

Charter Communications and Cox Communications are merging

It is a merger of the 2nd and 3rd largest US Cable companies (and technically its Charter acquiring Cox)

They will use the Cox Communications name for the company however will use the Spectrum as the brand name for the service folks get (basically anyone currently with Cox will switch to Spectrum and its pricing structure)

Notably, the Colts tried to do this same gimmick, but had to delete their video.  It's assumed to be because the Miami game featured a Dolphin wearing a #10 jersey was being arrested by police.

Not assuming - the Colts released a statement saying that was why and apologizing to Microsoft and Tyreek

(Because as you can imagine - Microsoft wasn't thrilled with being associated with that)

  6. Obviously this is only possible now because interleague play is common but - the Red Sox will become the first team in history to face the two reigning Cy Young winners on back to back nights

Tarik Skubal tonight and Chris Sale tomorrow

  7. The full Giants schedule has leaked (honestly I am assuming you can find every team's schedule at this point)

Their bye isn't until Week 14. Looking at said schedule I figure they will be 2-11 going into the bye - it is that fucking brutal

  8. Okay - correcting myself here

I forgot that the HOF had revamped the Vet Committees again

    Now its

The Contemporary Baseball Era, consisting of the period from 1980 to present day.

The Classic Baseball Era, consisting of the period prior to 1980 and including Negro Leagues and pre-Negro Leagues stars.

The Contemporary Baseball Era will split into two separate ballots – one ballot to consider only players who made their greatest impact on the game since 1980, and another composite ballot consisting of managers, executives and umpires whose greatest contributions to the game have come since 1980.

So technically the Black Sox should be with the Classic Baseball Era - but MLB only specifically referenced Rose getting added so who the fuck knows what is happening with them

Does Pete even go on the regular ballot?  I'd think it's just the Veterans Committee (from whom I saw a blurb that didn't sound too thrilled).

Vet's Committee - specifically 2027 they announced (the Classic Era)

The Black Sox will all be a part of a different Era committee and I think that is a long fucking time away

  10. I know it was a meme before the season but it is a reality - if you are a starting pitcher for the Dodgers, you are doomed

Roki Sasaki is the latest to go on IL -  "right shoulder impingement" which is basically the same injury he had last year in Japan

  11. Ed and I were talking about this and most of the players who played with Rose were/are still very bitter about him betting on baseball.

And - at least - the online sports writers are not pleased that Rose is eligible either (At least three different prominent writers have stories find their way via my feed so I am sure there are more)

But that doesn't mean any of them will be on the committee - since they are plenty of folks who do things anonymously like not voting for Ichiro. And there aren't that many teammates of Rose still alive (I think we counted that there are 6 Hall of Famers who were a teammate of Rose who are still alive and two of them are because of Rose's half a season in Montreal)

And - as we have seen with the various vet committees - all it takes is a Tony La Russa/Jerry Reinsdorf types to wrangle the group to get all their buddies elected

  12. It seems like the Vikings really really wanted to play in Ireland so they agreed to play the second game

    Also

The upside of the scheduling quirk for the Vikings is that they will miss trips to Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, where they've never won, and to Cleveland, where they have one victory since 1989.
