    I don’t know, I think there is a big value add of potentially having two hours of ROH show taping with a live Rampage vs. two hours of YouTube tapings (which I enjoy but are mostly enhancement squashes). You’re likely to have more competitive matches, storylines/angles, title defenses. For people who were on the fence about a live Rampage, seeing familiar names and an actual advance ROH card could tip them into buying a ticket. Would it be worth the cost of travel for the company? That’s a fair question .

    I just disagree. We won't be able to know for sure until / if they try it. But AEW PPVs get 5x the amount of buys as ROH PPVs. I'm not sure what makes everyone think the average fan that goes to AEW cares about ROH that much. I get the value of two company tapings vs one. But if you're not especially interested in ROH to begin with, adding their stars and TV tapings to an AEW event isn't much of an added value.

    Take this stuff to the finances thread

    This thread would have 5 posts if none of the TV speculation was in here. But okay. Will do. Nothing makes wrestling discussion more fun then segmenting things so much I'm not even allowed to talk about something said at the PPV press conference in the PPV thread.

    That's why I think it'll be good business for both ROH and Rampage. As of two days ago, WrestleTix had Final Battle at:

    Available Tickets => 1,297

    Current Setup/Capacity => 3,524

    Tickets Distributed => 2,227

    The stand-alone Dark/Live Rampage I attended two months ago at a casino in Nowhere, CT (which seemed super empty) was at:

    Available Tickets => 1,593
    Current Setup/Capacity => 5,388
    Tickets Distributed => 3,795

    That makes me think they might do well to combine the tapings.

    I think you're making a misstep in your numbers here. People willing to go to a stand alone Rampage taping arent different from the people willing to see ROH TV taping. You don't get to add those two attendances together. They're over lapping.

    Basically the average total attendance interested in AEW & ROH breakdown like this (roughly):

    -AEW PPV : 10,000ish
    -Dynamite : 5,000ish
    -ROH PPV : 2,500ish
    -Rampage : 2,500ish
    -ROH TV : ?
    -Dark : 500ish

    If the actual number for ROH TV is 1,000 you don't get to add that to The Rampage numbers. Because the likeliness is out of the 2,500 going to Rampage, 1,000 of them are the 1,000 willing to go to an ROH taping.

    It's my long winded way of saying doing a joint ROH TV & Rampage taping is going to net you zero more tickets sold vs a stand along Rampage taping. If you're a fan not interested in seeing Rampage in your town, adding an ROH TV isn't very likely to move the needle for you. Two B shows vs One B show doesn't mean a whole lot to the people only wanting to see an A show or better.

  3. From a production standpoint I have no idea how feasible this is. But the multi screen setup they use for the ROH entrance... I wonder if those screens can be on a raised pulley system. Its just video screens. They cant weigh a lot. Certainly less than the Wargames structure. Is there a way to raise up the ROH screens with a truss? Like you completely build the Rampage stage like they currently use. But you lower the ROH 6 split screens down and lock them into place. Then when your ROH taping is done you raise them and have the Rampage stage as usual.

    Doing split Wednesday / Friday tapings is an interesting idea to think about. AEW houses have been tapering off a bit. Is the allure of taping ROH TV & a live Rampage (the clear B show) a viable draw on the road? I don't have a definitive answer for that. But I would guess you're going have a hard time selling stand alone Friday tickets as compared to Dynamite tickets for Wednesday.

    Sorry, but how is this them giving up if they're on an app that works and under a monthly subscription? Would it really be different if they were on HBO Max and having to get a cut from WBD instead of pocketing the whole thing on their own? I just checked it and the ROH app has practically everything there. Now that TK announced it just advertise the crap out of it now and it's a win.

    Fair point. But I'm factoring in the tiny fraction of people who will buy Honor Club. The ROH PPVs have generated around 30k buys. So lets say everyone one of those gets Honor Club. That's still only 30k people following your product in a country of 330 million. They really won't be a viable touring brand based on their own merit. They'd have to sprinkle in known AEW quantities to help draw. Then you're diluting AEW that way.

    Now maybe they choose to go the studio wrestling route. You alleviate the touring and need for drawing in different markets. But the numbers have borne out that studio wrestling doesn't draw as many viewers as traditional arena wrestling. So then you have a slightly different problem, less people are watching due to the content.

    But then you circle back to my original point. In either circumstance you're drawing resources and man power and brain power away from THE brand. It's dicey. And I'm not saying 100% for sure I'm in the right and have all the answers. I'm just saying it's been a year, they didn't get WBD to bite on a TV product, main line AEW has slowly been faltering. I just don't see the benefits of keeping this a brand going forward anymore. It's subtraction by addition.

    I reserve the right to change this line of thinking if TK goes hands off and allows an infrastructure where it's a developmental brand ran by someone else. But as is, I've seen enough to call it. It wasn't a bad idea. It just didn't work out. And even in not working out, it was still worth it because that library is invaluable for the future.

    I question how they couldn't even get one of those little channels that Impact aired on to pick up an ROH show, but I guess they figured $9.99 a month from viewers would be more profitable than that, or something.

    If I'm not mistaken part of the AEW TV contract is TK isn't allowed to work with a competitor while with WBD. Again it's a fluid situation but unless TK wanted to risk souring the WBD relationship, if they passed on ROH there really isn't any other option. Technically ROH isn't AEW. But don't think for a second there wouldn't be some legalities involved and lawyering around what constitutes as a AEW / ROH by WBD's definitions.

    At this point I'm on board with scrapping ROH. AEW is the brand here. You're starting to hurt the mothership for the side project. Unify all the titles. Keep the library in your back pocket. Get back to focusing on the one true brand you are trying to create a legacy for. This ROH thing has been misstep after misstep from day one.

    This is literally no different than The Invasion. You bought something with an idea in mind. That idea didn't come to fruition. Quit beating the dead horse and just move on.

  6. I feel like The Briscoes thing might be over stated. What WB execs are even still there that would have originally passed down that edict? With the merger and what-not. Plus they can reference them in a promo on Dynamite. They can show a graphic of them on Rampage. They can appear on WBD's app B/R. It's an odd situation that seems fluid doesn't totally make sense.

  7. Could be a sneaky good show. The Dog Collar match is what sold me, but the women's title match, STP vs SIOG, Garcia v Yuta, & Joe vs Juice all have high ceilings. I almost feel like the Jericho match is the only dud, because at least the six man will have fun Dalton shenanigans.

    Jericho has been having good matches and I've been into the open challenge thing. But I just don't find this match that interesting. Either we get Claudio wacky sports entertainment, or more likely Claudio wins the title back. But I feel like Claudio should be an AEW guy not an ROH guy. And unless someone new debuts there's no ready made next challenger for either outcome.

  8. Nah dawg, I'm triple vaxed and fully believe in Covid and it's dangers. But the flu is still a thing. Not every sickness can just be assumed to be Covid to fit your hate boner narrative for anything and everything AEW.

    This is me taking a leap but I would assume and hope the majority of the roster has been vaccinated with their heavy touring schedule and interaction with all kinds of strangers in a given week. Covid is always a possibility, but that shouldn't be the automatic assumption.

  9. TK going the wish.com route here. If you wanted "Big Time" Bill Collier, then sign Bill. Don't take a dude that looks like Bill but can't lace his boots and throw Bill's name on him. If you guys aren't familiar with Bill look him up. He's fucking good.

    The flu. The flu is the straw you're grasping for. You certainly aren't going to turn anyone on to your weird hate boner cult by acting like Mox is a prick for being to asked to work through the flu when we all have to do that. Your gimmick is wearing thin on me.

  11. Happy for Baker to get that mental & emotional win tonight. The Browns treated him like garbage, it didn't workout in Carolina, he was on the verge of fading into backup status for the rest of his career. That win was huge for his confidence. And if he can play at a similar level for the last few games he's gonna have some starter offers for next year.

    I love when dudes who have been wronged bet on themselves and it works out.

    Warner Bros. Discovery said "no" to the Briscoes appearing on their networks, so Tony signed them to ROH in spite of their edict

    Dixie Carter rehiring Vince Russo behind Spike TV's back is a big reason why they cancelled Impact - why continue working with someone you can't trust?

    Can't tell if serious.

    Dixie being told Spike didn't want to work with Russo then hiring Russo and lying to the network about it is NOT the same as Tony being told WBD don't want performers on their TV, and very publicly giving them a job where they.... aren't appearing on WBD TV.

    He signed them to ROH & has made them PPV only. He's not hiding anything. He's not being deceitful. He isn't lying to them. He is abiding by their ask.

    You are doing some real fancy mental gymnastics to make this confirm to your bias.

    I don't know about that. If that's true, he's no better than all the other money marks that have come and gone. Maybe that's the case, but not knuckling to Cody and letting at least some contracts expire make me think if this thing isn't profitable after 5 years, he'll be wishing the Bucks good luck in Japan and getting back to football and futbol. I think the Khan family likes being rich more than Tony likes wrestling (keep in mind his dad is part-owner of AEW).

    I don't agree. Tony is all in. $1 is to $100 as $100 million is to a $1 billion. If I had $100 and lost $1 doing something I genuinely loved, I wouldn't bat an eye. TK can lose $100 million a year and not bat an eye because that's equivalent to $1 compared to his personal wealth.

    I get what you're saying, he's not running it like a money mark. He's making decisions based on budgets and not just jizzing out money everywhere. I'm on board with that. My point is just that, while he's always going to try and turn a profit with it because he has a business and sports background, he's not at all adverse to losing money on this project if that's the way the worm turns. He doesn't WANT to lose money, but I sense he would be okay losing money. If he was genuinely passionate about his vision and believing he could turn it around in enough time.

    It's not that he's a money mark. It's that he's rich and doing what he loves. And as long as he can keep doing what he loves, losing money isn't going to be a big deal to him. I mean shit dude Elon Musk blew $44 billion just so he could spout whatever conspiracy nonsense with impunity on Twitter. Rich dudes don't look at money the same way working folks like us do.

    4) The WWE is a gigantic publicly traded company. It's not going anywhere. Can anyone legitimately say the same about AEW?

    The Khan's net worth is currently... $11.8 BILLION according to Google.

    AEW is going nowhere. This is TK's passion and even if they lost TV and were losing money hand over fist he'd be fine paying for it forever and creating his own streaming service to distribute it. That's not how he's running it. He's running it like a legitimate business and trying to make money with it. But a publicly traded company is on way shakier ground than legitimate billionaires. WWE is always one really bad Saudi incident away from their stock tanking. They are in bed with some pretty unsavory stuff even if they have thus far kept it light and positive.

    All this doom and gloom or pontificatating that WWE is on so much more stable ground is a bit misguided to me. The truth is neither one of them are going anywhere. A talent would be better off decideding where they want to be based on how often they'd like to wrestle. In AEW you won't eclipse 25-30 TV matches in a year most likely. In WWE you'll be hitting 50-60 TV matches a year. Do you prefer visibility and TV time, regardless of the importance presented on it, or do you prefer less is more and preserving your body?

    Neither choice is right. Neither choice is wrong. It's a preference thing. And that should be what talent base their decision on, not internet sleuths perusing the finances of billionaires lol.

    Everyone is going to completely forget about the taunting penalty

    Meanwhile I will silently rage about it for the next two weeks

    Same dude, same. That game was pretty close to over if that penalty doesn't happen. 2-3 more minutes come off the clock. They get 3 more points. It's sealed up. But a center just had to run up the field 10 yards to flex in a defender's face for some reason.

    This was the most frustrating game to watch I can remember. Immediately start off down 10. Start to fire back and take the lead and look good. Then about 12 straight 3 & outs. Even wen Washington was down, I knew they were going to comeback. The second half time of possession was like 26 to 4. That defense was tired as shit.

    And when are we going to abolish ties? Fans don't like them. Players don't like them. Coaches don't like them. Why are they a thing? "Player safety" my ass. You'll let a team play on a Thursday after a Sunday, but you're worried about playing an extra 20 minutes after the initial hour of playtime? Frustrating.

    This team needs Beckham so bad. But I just know he's gonna go to The Cowboys.

    If Kenny and the Bucks pull a nWo and show up on WWE television as "The Elite", and declare that they're invaders from "down South in Jacksonville"...you're saying there would be no grounds for a lawsuit since the Bucks own "Elite" and there wouldn't be any brand confusion? Or are you saying Tony would have grounds to defend his brand just like Vince did in 1996?

    How are you this bad at how trademarks work? "The Elite" is a trademark for specific people. Kenny & the Bucks own that. They can be called "The Elite" anywhere they want. That ad "Being The Elite are owned by them. Just because the word 'elite' appears in both trademarks, doesn't mean they can kibosh anything using that word. The specific trademark "All Elite Wrestling" is a completely different trademark than "The Elite". It relates to the name of a business, not people.

    The "World' Best Wrestling" idea was actually one of The Buck's ideas before "All Elite Wrestling" came up. They (Tony & The Elite) looked into it and someone already owned that trademark. That doesn't factor into this at all. Tony & Shad Khan's LLC own "All Elite Wrestling". Full stop. Legally The Elite have no claim to that name or any possible way to force The Khans to change their trademark.

    I kinda hope people are right and you're just trolling lol, because this is a pretty common sense thing.

    I've heard in a few places "if he's really as big a Piper mark as he makes himself out to be, he would have refused the belt" and I have to agree

    Guy is an attraction on his own and doesn't need the belt. And he rarely wrestles, so unless he has a strong faction around him to prevent him from losing and explain his cowardice (The Firm doesn't count), letting the guy sit on the belt and vocally say he won't be defending it often doesn't make any sense. Especially in Tony's House of Interim Champions where any possible title problem results in an automatic tournament.

    One of the biggest talking points in internet fandom is the Brock Lesnar part time champion stuff. They are purposely trying to book MJF to get heat in this way. It's 2022. Wrestling is a work and there isn't a soul that's planning on "paying to see him get his ass kicked" for "hurting" Regal.

    Maybe there are some people mad enough that he's a part time champ that they will pay to boo him in person. There's still viable ways to get heat these days. But they're different than they were 30 years ago.

    Not for nothing, but you seem pretty mad about this development. So in a sense you're getting worked and adding heat to MJF. If it's working on you maybe it's working on others?

  18. I'm not defending any performers or trying to take up for anyone. I'd just like to note a best of 7 series when you just know it's going to the 7th match doesn't scream must see TV for some. You can basically skip all of the first 6 and not miss out on anything storyline-wise. Sure there will be layered story beats that they thread through the whole series, but essentially nothing of note will be happening until the L.A. Dynamite show.

    I think that's as important of a factor as anything in regards to the low closing quarter hour. Just thought I'd add that point in for consideration.

    This game looks so bad. Such a contrast/difference to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City which I've played unlike Batman: Arkham Origins or Batman: Arkham Knight.

    It's actually grown on me. It's not Arkham. But it's still a pretty good experience once you get used to the not-Arkham-ness of it.

    They added a bunch of DLC this week for free. It's basically just 30 different raid levels with Starro as the big bad. Plus all the boss battles are tweaked to super max difficulty for a Showdown mode.

    The story is pretty solid, but it's short. There's only 3 side villains in this, unlike Arkham which always had a bunch. And the main story only had 8 quick chapters. I think having to animate the story 4 separate times is what ate away most of the space.

    I'd recommend it once it drops down to a reasonable price. It was not worth a new AAA full price. But under $20 is totally worth it for this.

  20. I watched the Teddy Hart doc and...

    Spoiler

    He's very clearly a piece of shit, but I don't think he had anything to do with the disappearance. I'm not sure why I feel this way but it seems pretty likely to me she ended up abducted upon release from prison. I just got this strong sense from the last selfie they showed of her in the back of a strip club. She got mixed up with bad people in a bad place and it's entirely possible she is still alive and living a horrible existence in some sort of Eastern European slave trade situation. The dying her hair. The trying to get an ID. It's like she was desperately trying to find a way to get away from something. Could be way off but that's where my mind went. And I hope I am because that is fucking sad to think about.

    Teddy is so defensive because he knows his actions caused this to happened to her. He took her car and passport and she was stranded. He didn't kill her, but he prevented her from getting away to safety. He's 100% culpable for causing her disappearance or demise. I think he knows that and that's why he's so squirrely about it. Have to compartmentalize it and not allow himself to see that he's the bad guy in this situation regardless if he did or didn't kill her.

    The Team Vision Dojo is seedy as hell and def doesn't deserve a pass for all the gross and shady stuff they do. But I don't think they had anything to do with this situation either.

  21. I was all set to come in here and rant about how baffling the layout of the tag was. About 3/4 of the way through I realized they only announced two Zero Hour matches and it had to be leading to a singles. I was about to wonder aloud which agent needed to get fired for relegating the Kingston / Akyiama interaction to 90 seconds. I was quite bummed for Kingston thinking he built this match idea up in his mind for 20 years to get 90 seconds of interaction. Glad they're getting a singles today.

    Athena as a heel is far more fun.

    I know this is a small thing but I'm bummed they've just been using the normal set for PPVs. Seems like that's what's happening here too. The normal set is already up, so I'd assume they aren't going to deconstruct that to put up a modified original PPV one. We'll see. But that's a real bummer for me. The PPVs having actual sets was one of my favorite differences between AEW & WWE.
