I guess it's alright. I just wish WWE would go back to the classic belts of the late 80s-90s before the attitude era.

I love those designs, they’re the ones I grew up on.  Unfortunately, the company logo isn’t prominent enough on them and that’s the name of the game today.  It’s still equal parts hilarious and sad to me that their top titles are nothing but the company logo.  Maybe within the next year it’ll be the company logo and some space reserved for sponsorship.

I'm guessing he's referring to the big rolls of canvas that you can wrap around your hands and wrists to give you a little cushion.  Look like a gauze bandage but obviously far sturdier.

    Like these:

Yes, that’s exactly it.  I assumed @BloodyChamp was hitting the heavy bag and taping every time.  Wraps are far easier in that scenario.  But shooting darts, no idea.  I got nothin’. 😁

Also, it’s not just to cushion your knuckles.  The tightness keeps you from breaking your hands or wrists.  Punching is not good for you.

  3. Let that HOB match be your weekly reminder that this company is exceeding at putting out excellent six man matches in a division that is in a holding pattern with a thoroughly average tag team and their freshly divorced dad looking partner as the non-defending champs.  God damn, imagine awesome weekly six man matches knowing they're actually building to an incredible title match instead of whatever The Acclaimed and their mascot are doing.

Also, what the hell is Deeb's accent or vocal affect supposed to be?  She speaks very strangely.

Don Callis won the whole weekend with that promo.

  4. Oh man, how did I forget Drake Younger?  Though last I heard (maybe a month ago), he'd checked back into rehab.  But a dude like that going to rehab reminds me of celebrities like Mel Gibson, for example, going off on racist tirades and then blaming booze and then going to rehab to help their images.  Like I've been drunk many, many times and it never led me to blame "the globalists" for anything.  Drake Younger fell down a Qanon rabbit hole and I don't think quitting drugs or booze would help with that, but God bless the guy and I hope it all works out for him.  I'll always remember his resurgence after getting clean originally; his 2012 - 13 PWG run was amazing and he probably should have accepted a title run and stayed on the indies.  Moving to Florida did him in.

This will sound dumb and random but is there something like a glove you can buy that comes taped up like you’d tape your fist?

I'm not sure how that would work because it would need to be really tight.  Have you ever used wraps instead of tape for punching?

Are we sure Hunter was talking about Osperey? I mean, has that been confirmed? I was just thinking, maybe he was talking about MJF.

No, it was all very vague, perhaps purposefully so.  He also said something to the effect of "early in your career," which would rule out Osprey and Okada.  BUT it's also conceivable that HHH doesn't know they're veterans.  Or maybe he's such a Kool Aid drinker he believes your career hasn't even started, and is thus still early, until you've worked New York brother.

Me, I just assumed he said "early in your career" so vets he knows personally, like Edge, wouldn't feel like they were catching strays.

But really, in the end, a guy who is supposed to be on the business side now, and just had the best weekend of his career as an exec, doesn't need to be punching down at anyone.  To paraphrase a line from a great work of cinema, "Are you such a fucking loser you can't tell when you've won?"

  7. Alvarez & Meltzer were talking over the weekend about Vince starting a new promotion (they said nah to that one) and their key question was, "who would he be able to get?"

Now come on.  That's the one problem he wouldn't have.  He could lean into the whole "people used to love me talking about my genetic jackhammer and grapefruits!  Woke wrestling cancelled me!" thing and hire every sexual predator, MAGA choad, and otherwise undesirable currently not working or not working much and looking for a payday.  Off the top of my head:

    • Marty Scurll
    • David Starr
    • Jack Gallagher
    • Joey Ryan
    • Jimmy Havoc
    • Michael Elgin
    • That one Crist brother
    • Tyrus
    • Tessa Blanchard
    • Alberto Del Rio
    • Flip Gordon
    • That one neo nazi/neo nazi-adjacent deathmatch guy whose name escapes me

Shit, he could promote it on Truth Social

    Would The Giant count?

saw the trailer for Joker 2. Didn’t think the first film needed a sequel, tried to say something about mental illness, austerity and fascism but threw it away by saying “he’s just a nut” in the third act

It was just nasty, cynical trash directed at a lowest common denominator audience who surely wouldn’t understand any “message” that may have existed anyway.  I did a work trip right before the pandemic hit and, on the plane, saw The Rise of Skywalker on the way out and Joker on the way back.  What travel gods did I piss off?

If anyone happens to get the presale code for Allentown on Tuesday can you please DM it to me? My mom wants to attend an AEW show and of course I do too. Thanks in advance.

Apparently, if you go to aewtix.com, there’s some sort of “AEW Insider” signup where they send you codes.

  10. I’m late to the party but I’m really enjoying Mayor of Kingstown (not to be confused with Mare of Easttown, which is also great!) on Paramount +.  For a wrestling tie-in, Erik Rowan is in a few episodes 😂

I believe the phrase in the current vernacular is "Asian don't raisin"

I swear if I get a IWGP title defense next month...

Looool I always wondered what the Asian equivalent of “black don’t crack” was.  Best could come up with was Asians don’t be agin’ which is not great.

Willow's recent match with Riho was a real corker, too.

Last night's international feed fun was that Shane Taylor hit the loudest goddamn chop I've ever heard on Hook and Aubrey looked horrified like she'd just seen someone get shot.

Hell yeah, man.  I rewound it to hear it again.  If you haven't seen it, imagine how loud you think a chop can be.  Now realize it was louder than that.

  13. If attacking someone when they toss their hair back is his strategy, modern Punk could have kicked the shit out of late 90's Kevin Nash.

It was cute how they weaved the footage into current storylines, but they should have just not done it.  Maybe they'll move on now.  Please?

If I didn't know any better and you told me someone on this show was a recurring actor on a pretty major real world TV show, and then gave me 10 guesses, Mercedes would be guess #38, somewhere between Alex Marvez and a block of wood.

Vince probably needs to be more concerned with find a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the us at this point

He'll be Trump's running mate as both scumbags upstanding gentlemen who are innocent until proven guilty desperately try to get elected as a shield against their various criminal and civil charges.

I haven’t had the time or energy to even watch Collision from Saturday (or the main from Rampage), and all the online discourse about what this clip might be has been kinda killing my excitement for that and tonight. Plus I really am fine without any Jack Perry.

Both are pretty skippable with mostly JTTS matches -- they seem to have surrendered the weekend due to Mania -- but Rampage did have an excellent 4 way main with elimination rules!   I didn't even get into FTR vs Top Flight but others say it was pretty good.

How is TAKA these days? Used to be one of my faves back in those days...

In a similar vein, Masato Tanaka is still going strong and has visited the US a few times lately, would LOVE to see him pop up for a few AEW marches...

I saw Tanaka on the October 2023 West Coast Pro show vs Vinnie Massaro.  After the first unprotected chairshot to the head, I skipped to the next match.  If that's all you can do anymore (this goes for both guys), fuck off down the road.

Same with The State. All the licensed music used had to be dubbed over with sound a like songs, which is way it took so long for it to be released on dvd, which eventually came out in 2012.

I loved The State.  Nobody understands the reference when I tell them that penguins ain't natural because they're not in The Bible.  Also when I long for $240 worth of pudding.

The Ben Stiller Show was also great, speaking of early 90s sketch comedy.

Google suggests it's actually "Megabyte", which is disappointing, as "Megabite" is clearly the better wrestling name.

That's kinda dumb; didn't he work a competitive eater gimmick?  In that case, isn't "Bite" the better choice?  It's also a play on words.  It's not like he was working a PC repair gimmick.
