Bill Bellichik and Tom Brady didn't declare they were going to take over the NFL, but then when they decided they'd like the balls to be deflated, it happened and they got away with it for ages.
Alex Ferguson didn't declare that he was going to take over the Premier League and have all of the refs start calling matches in Man United's favour, but somehow Ryan Giggs spent his whole career falling over in the box, and was never once booked for diving. Got awarded quite a few penalties, though.
Michael Jordan, he didn't get called for travelling on any of his dunks, did he? Many times, he stopped dribbling and took a couple of paces before jumping into the dunk, but it wasn't a travel, he was just really good at basketball.
WWF already did the “top star gets away with murder” gimmick with Hogan.
Snuka before him, come to think of it.

I just can't do that. I mostly watch on delay and fast-forward through things that don't interest me. Some weeks, if I'm not feeling it, I just don't watch. Nothing wrong with feeling like you need to see everything, or even just wanting to see everything. I just wouldn't stress over it.
Oh man, right there with you. I sometimes do a +180 seconds when they go to picture-in-picture even though I'm watching the international feed on Triller Yeah I know it's the heat, and I also know that next to nothing is going to happen. Modern TV wrestling, baby.

Obviously I know no more than you or anyone else, but my completely uneducated guess is that it's a Pulp Fiction reference intended to be a subtextual commentary about the modern day usage of titles as McGuffins for angles that don't necessarily require one.
Judges will also accept "Mox just thought it was cool."
I was going to speculate that Mox's running roughshod, with injuries and attempted murders for all, was a commentary of the past decade of America and the erosion of rule of law, but that's heady stuff for fake fighting.

I don't mind stories and certainly don't mind letting something play out. I just don't like the general conceit of a heel group "taking over," as I've mentioned before. No heel group who has declared they are "taking over" has ever explained what that means. If it means "win all the belts, control the contenders, make all the money," then cool. But aside from that, in the kayfabe sense of this being just a sport, what does that even mean? What was the NWO's reason to exist? Yes, they started as "WWF people are coming in to ruin the company" but then that gimmick had to go, so what was the point after that? As long as a company owner exists, who can ostensibly fire anyone who is being too difficult, then what real threat to the company itself does a heel group pose? That's my problem. The conceit of pro wrestling as a worked sports league limits this whole "taking over" concept. It would be like if the Carolina Panthers declared they were going to take over and run or destroy the NFL. Like...okay, what?
I'd like to finally know what Moxley's group's aims are. If they're an existential threat to the company, why doesn't Tony Khan care? Why does nobody outside a gang of midcarders care at this point in the story?

FYI something I've recently learned that if you're 40+ and your BMI is over 30, they can refuse you a med card unless you have a sleep study. Just found this out fairly recently with a new hire at my place. Doesn't matter if you've never had a symptom of sleep apnea.
BMI is such a bullshit stat. I mean it's a good starting point if you pay zero attention to your health, but that's about it. I'm 6'2", 238, almost in the best shape of my life, down from like 310, can run 10 miles, look good, smell good, can dance all night long. Still considered OBESE by BMI.

The heat for Moxley on this board is matching the heat in the arena. The heat in the arena however suggests to me that it's working. The Collision crowd in Providence seemed pretty hot for Mox v OC. I'm with Providence.
I don't actually mind him at all, but the Missed Opportunities thread got me thinking about this angle yesterday and I can't verbalize where it's going or what it's supposed to be.

You're not kidding. I'm a gummy guy and a 50mg is generally my "sweet spot". Decided to try a 100 and my resting heart rate jumped to 150 bpm for like 2 hours straight. Legit thought I'd need a ride to a Local Medical Facility©. Back to 50s I go. lol
Dude. I felt like I was walking on a sponge. I was completely disoriented, could barely speak coherently, sparkles in my vision, just laying on my couch like ooohhhhh fuuuuck i am too old for this shit. If Emilio Estevez showed up and said "they can't hear you, we're in the spirit world, dummy!" I wouldn't have been shocked. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling almost sobered up and thanked every god I've ever known that I wasn't high anymore.

Okada isn’t as banged up as Nakamura but he’s definitely in the same “coasting after years of going hard in Japan” mode. He’s right where he should be on the card. I don’t think he’s being wasted; more likely he doesn’t want to be the top guy right now. He’ll probably step it up in the CC, but he’s currently in his “Elvis in Vegas” era.

Just be glad Moxley has mostly graduated out of his Great Value Health Ledger Joker phase. These promos, but with that delivery, would be just insufferable.

Maybe Dustin Hoffman? The whole story is just apocryphal anyway. I still can’t resist dropping that quote when the situation calls for it, though.

That's AEW's ultimate missed opportunity to me. Never going with the hot hand. Cody should have beat Jericho. Hangman should have beat Omega sooner. Swerve should have got his run sooner. Punk & Dsnielson should have got the title sooner.
I don't necessarily disagree with any of this, but how do you book long term if "overness with the fans" is your sole determinant of the world champion? What happens when your most over guy is made champion and you start planning around him, but then somebody else gets really hot? And then it happens again? I guess if somebody is super hot, belt him up and then work your ass off to keep him hot? 80s Hogan style, I guess.
Also, conventional wisdom says there's more money in the chase. Also, fans are fickle. I don't know what the answer to any of this is. Wrestling has changed so much. WWE doesn't even need to book PPVs (sorry....PLEs) that draw anymore because all their money is guaranteed.
Honestly, missed opportunities, etc...I feel like the biggest missed opportunity is AEW not settling on booking plans and sticking with them. Hangman's planned reign was cut short because Punk was signed. All the Punk bullshit put the company's plans in freefall. The EVPs vs TK angle disappeared. The world title picture was all kinds of fucked up this year because Danielson got too hurt to wrestle anymore so TK gave him the gold watch reign, which was an absolute mess. Then you had things get sidetracked by injuries to guys like MJF and Cole. I just want guys to stay healthy and for TK to have an actual vision AND stick with it. Say what you want about this Death Riders angle, but at least it feels like a long term direction.

I want the Bucks to get in, primarily because of their impact on wrestling and because I do find them to be very good (I don't want to argue with anyone here). But also for the lulz. Mainly for the lulz.

Given that he was doing that gimmick right around the time Harlem Heat got paired with Sherri, it's not inconceivable. It was also around the time of Madonna's "Sex" photobook where she had those pictures with Big Daddy Kane (+Naomi Campbell to be fair).
Re: Afa/Sika
I just happened to watching a random Headshrinkers match before WrestleMania IX the other day, and for some reason, Afa just starts speaking very clear English and calling out the Steiners in the middle of the squash catching Vince on commentary off again. "...SO HE DOES SPEAK ENGLISH?!" Bruh, if wrestling were real, he's only been in the country for multiple decades at this point. He's probably picked up some English in the interim, Vince.
Madonna’s culture vulture shit was so transparent and gross. She was on Letterman and she mentioned that she only dated basketball players like eight times. I’m surprised she wasn’t wearing a shirt that said “I fuck black dudes.” Oooooh so transgressive. Fuck Madonna and her use of black men as props to shock white America like 10 years too late (5 if you’re in the south )

Quick note for @Death From Above that I hope comes off as encouraging…
The first whatever number of pounds comes off quickly and relatively easily due to a lot of factors. It slows down and you may see times when you lose very little (fraction of a pound per week) or maybe even go up slightly. Just stick with it. The scale is a lagging indicator. How you feel, how you look, how your clothes fit, being able to lift more, run farther, get through 8 minute abs without wanting to die…all these mean more than the scale. As long as it’s trending down overall, you’re fine. Never let a scale number discourage you when you know you’re doing well otherwise. It’s going to take a long time but it’s worth it and we’re all here for you.

Trying to start some ab excercises. Jesus christ, you ever want a wake up call about where you're at, that's the ticket. Found this little 8 minute routine designed for people over 40 so it puts minimal stress on the lower back. Figured how hard can it be. lmao
We gettin' there one day at a time.
Good on ya, bud! Keep it up!

AEW - NOVEMBER 2024
in ALL ELITE WRESTLING
Posted · Edited by Technico Support
This goes alllll the way back to the Kenny Omega vs Alan Angels kerfluffle. I actually thought it was cool and different that AEW is booked in such a way that the lower tier guys still had a chance against upper tier guys, like it showed you had to be good just to be there. Someone here explained that it’s because they’re all elite.
