Same for CM Punk, and look how that turned out. Did the short-term gains with CM Punk outweigh the long-term damage? I think you can make an argument they did.

I mean I think with the proper promotion and support Miro could've been a phenomenal asset for AEW, and he does when he was operating on full cylinders as the Redeemer. But he had no idea what to do with Miro after he lost the TNT title. I think a lot of guys have that potential. But they also need that sustained creative push.

Those are Punk and Miro problems, not AEW problems. You can’t cherry pick two malcontents as your examples of AEW poorly booking former WWE talent.

I'm sure one of those "ASMR artists" has recorded a version of "Relax" so that lonely men could jerk it to a Frankie Goes To Hollywood song in a different fashion than usual

Oh Christ, were this close to getting a haunting baby voice style knockoff version of Relax in a horror movie trailer, aren’t we?

Oof.  Pretty sure I saw the world premier of that one.  Back when the world premier of a video was something anybody even noticed.

Still remember the premier of Hot For Teacher.   Everybody at CD Fulkes Middle School - home of the fighting lizards - couldn’t wait for that one.

Oh man, the world premiere of Thriller on Friday Night Videos was an event.

I never ever saw the Genesis video on TV, that was something I had to find on Youtube well after the fact. These days they show stuff from the 2000s on their Classic show so it's a rare day to see a true OG MTV dust-collector. At least Metal Mayhem got better as I only saw one Cinderella video last night instead of the usual entire block.

Kids, go look up the video for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax" to see something truly subversive and ahead of its time that managed to somehow squeak in past the censors. I think.

There are two versions of the video.  One is a thousand percent more super gay and I don’t think it got much, if any, US airplay.  But it is online.  The other version is the one we’ve seen.  Somehow all the lyrics got through, though.  A top 40 pop song about trying to think about baseball or maybe Margaret Thatcher in a cold day.

Or in the immortal words of Eddie channeling Mr. T, “HEY BOY SLOW DOWN!”

?Kevin Kelly 'fired' by AEW after ex-WWE announcer's social media rant accusing Ian Riccaboni of sabotaging career | The US Sun

Seriously if AEW needed a conspiracy theorist with minimal product knowledge Jesse Ventura's disembodied head was right there

It’s sad that we’ve gotten to the point where we look back nostalgically at the time when the crackpots believed in benign conspiracies.

I keep a spreadsheet of all of the major promotions with the wrestlers' hometowns, weights, and signature maneuvers. I shared it with the new announcer for New Japan (Walker Stewart). We gotta help each other out!

That’s awesome.  I always smile when Schiavone calls a newer move or a Lucha move by it’s actual name.

  5. Much more disciplined eating this week (calories below 2000, protein 160-190g, no uncounted food at night), somehow lost 4lb!  Probably half water but I’ll take it. Decent job of alternating weights and cardio all week, but just a walk yesterday (4 miles) because I was sore and not in a running mood).  Saturday cheat day let’s go!

Getting all that work done on your face in your late 30s and 40s do way more damage than good and make you age worse as you get older. Missy , Vince and Flair are the worst examples. Makes me wonder how my generation will be with the BBLs. It’s just not attractive. Missy would look so much better with out any work as she was so pretty in her younger years

Absolutely.  Older people who got too much shit done earlier in life look like they’re auditioning for the Land of Confusion video.

  7. The first time I saw Sting wrestle (not in person) would have been on UWF TV, post Blade-Runners, managed by Eddie Gilbert and teaming Rick Steiner (who was post name change, no longer wrestling under his shoot name).  I am old.

For once, give it up to Juan Cena, especially after his horrible take on the Vince scandal.

Cena dresses like grandpa did when he worked at the bank and talks like he spent 20 years in front of a focus group

Oh, I know, I spent 30 years in Austin, the “blueberry in the tomato soup”. But I also sorta thought Delaware was so small that it was mostly all suburbs/cities.

Hell nah man.  Between Maryland's eastern shore and the parts of Delaware you need to go through to get to the Delmarva beaches, it's some real January 6 country.

So I drove through part of Sussex County, Delaware today and yeah, a couple of rednecks from there makes total sense.

Oh hell yes.  It's not "north and south," it's "urban and rural."  I lived in a more rural town in northern Maryland for a while and saw a pickup flying the confederate flag.  That's when I knew it was time to move.  Shit, if you drive from where I live (DC suburbs) to the Maryland seashore, you'll see some proper Deliverance type shit.

  11. On a different note, I keep hearing that if you want to come across as edgy and cool, you need to order AEW’s next ppv.

Well I’m here to just reassure you that you don’t have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude.

The Jungle Boy glass spot Phil got hot about was with glass bottles, not glass panes.

Panes are pretty rare even in deathmatch feds. They're a lot more expensive than light tubes, and light tubes are safer to work with, provided you remember not to jab with them.

Ah, thanks!  And giving the benefit of a doubt, I'm sure they were using candy glass and not actual glass bottles.

The bad thing about light tubes is that indies don't typically drain all the hazardous gunk out first, right?

  13. The "primadonna" stuff feels unearned, too.  Yes, using real glass is stupid (IF in fact that was the issue...nobody is using actual glass panes, they're all using safety glass with the exception of your dumbest shindies) but CM Punk is not the booker or creative staff.  Take the glass out of it and you have an old head, not known for his sparkling personality or diplomatic prowess, seemingly big leaguing a younger guy and telling him how to do his match.  I'd be a little peeved, too.

  14. On one hand, I feel like I want to say you need to have a plan for someone after a heel turn that's something more than "dress as generic heel #4379 and insult the fans" BUT, because all the Punk bullshit went down, we can't fairly say they had no plan because we never got to see it.  Where was Perry supposed to go after Hook got his comeuppance?
