  1. I had a plan
That was built on thinking too long
    Canadian winters
    At home with your sisters
the romance was hard to ignore
    You were beautiful
    I was happy to fall
    So happy to fall

    I remember you searching
    I thought you were searching
that's how I picked up the phone
Happy to hear you remembered the view
So glad to assume it was fate
I thought at the time it was clear
I thought at the time it was clear

So I stood at the station
With a plan and a pocket of poems
    Heroically tragic
    Bearded and blind with obsession
    I'm a car without hope
Too close to the ditch to go far
    I showed you my field
I said this is my field
    But you weren't impressed

You said why are we here
    Your motives are clear
In this room with a view
    and so much of you
    is so far from here
    it's so far from here
    it's so far from here
    it's so far from here

    Oh my heart
    It just fell apart
And i wished I could show you
    The same view
of you by the window and me
    feeling fine
    And me just feeling fine
    Yeah me just feeling fine

  2. Texans sign Joe Mays, aka the guy that ripped off part of Matt Schaub's ear on an illegal helmet to helmet hit last year.  Good for ILB depth, but probably because they hate Matt Schaub.

  3.

The National - Trouble Will Find Me: Sad, slow affair after Boxer and High Violet seemed more upbeat, but just as good as either of those albums.

I got kinda into them after the song at the end of the movie 'Warrior' (I tend to stay away from bands that are really hyped up lately) and loved 'High Violet' but this one did nothing for me.  I liked 'Demons' but the whole rest drifted by and I didn't remember any of it.  My brother says it's awesome so I'm gonna give it another chance, though.

"NOW I KNOW WHY WHITE PEOPLE KILL THEMSELVES AT ALARMING RATES B. CUZ THEY LISTEN TO SHIT LIKE THIS. THIS SHIT IS SO DEPRESSING IT COULD MAKE YOU KILL YOURSELF OVER SOME BULLSHIT."

    from the Vice review.

  4. SUNBATHER by Deafheaven is my #1 Album and "Dream House" is my #1 song.  So much awesomeness.  Perfect mix of black metal, shoegaze, post rock all wrapped up in a nice bow.  Hipster metal?  Probably.  Don't care.

I really like the new Ocean, Pelagial.  It's cool.  The "it's all one song" aesthetic I think fails, what with all the fade outs in between songs, but I get the general concept, and musically, it's pretty cool.

Ultraviolet, the new Kylesa, is good too, but not on the level of Spiral Shadow, which I thought was magnificent.  "Low Tide" is a highlight.

The World is a Beautiful Place and Now I'm Not Afraid To Die's Whenever, If Ever is indie pop genius.  Really enjoying it right now.

And, it shouldn't have taken this long, but MBV.  Return to form that puts to shame years of shoegaze that came between Loveless and MBV.  That first cascade of feedback feels like an old friend hugging for the first time in 20 years.

There's probably tons more I'm forgetting right now, but none of them are Jimmy Eat World.  Really?

  5. Guillard's KO of Danzig was one of the most brutal I've ever seen, especially with Danzig waking up crying.  I've never seen that, and it was the saddest thing.

Also, I'm all for Women's MMA, but there was something unsettling about Carmouche just pounding on Andrade for a full minute or so in full mount.  I also was unnerved when Meisha Tate was bloodied up in the Zingano fight.  Come to think about, I never enjoyed any Cyborg fights, but I think that's because it just looks like a man brutalizing a woman.  I didn't get freaked out for Rousey fights (even the gruesome Rousey-Tate armbar*) or any other of the Strikeforce / Elite XC fights that I remember.  I guess I just don't like seeing women get visibly hurt.  It's weird.

    * probably didn't freak out because it just didn't look real.

  6.

I miss Lush.  I haven't found many bands that satisfy that Lush itch; maybe Whirr, if I'm generous.

This is probably Whirr's best song, and it doesn't even come close to anything Lush ever did, but what can you do?

  7. The entirety of the gauntlet match was fantastic, even the parts with Swagger and Ryback.  One thing that I overlooked the first time was how good a second Cesaro was for Swagger.  The best part was toward the end of the Swagger match.  Right before Bryan grabs the arm to hook the Yes! Lock, Cesaro starts arguing with a fan, and pulls Zeb over to argue with the fan -- and because they were distracted, they missed Swagger tapping out.  Genius stuff to explain why they didn't try to run in and cheat.  Too often in the WWE (primarily with diva seconds) they just watch their man get beat, and it's just kind of sad.

Good on Cesaro and Bryan for that epic match.

  8. I really do not like the new Nine Inch Nails song. Sounds like a lesser version of "The Hand That Feeds" which was a lesser NIN song anyway.

Don't like the new Pixies either.

Album I can't stop listening to lately? Weezer's blue album.

  9. Y'know how most people would say the first date is probably too soon to tell that she's "the one"...?

Dammit I'm in love! You wouldn't understand! I've suffered enough as an Astros fan! I'm due!
  10. Dilemma time.

The Summer Slaughter Tour is coming next week, and I can't decide if I want to go.  The Ocean is one of my favorite bands (and PELAGIAL is one of my favorite albums of the half-year).  However, I have never been a fan of the Dillinger Escape Plan (and I've tried).  Further, the other bands on the tour range from outright hatred (Periphery, Norma Jean) to well, they're okay (Animals as Leaders, Cattle Decapitation, Revocation, Aeon) to who? (Rings of Saturn, Thy Art is Murder).

In other words, I'd really only want to see the Ocean.  But they tour North America very infrequently, and this is it.  And, they've admitted in interviews they're only playing a 20 minute set.

I think I talked my way out of it.

  11. Saw Deafheaven and Marriages not too long ago.  Best show I'd seen in years.

SUNBATHER is my album of the year so far, and "Dream House" is my song of the year.  I'm just blown away.

Marriages seemed out of place on a metal bill, but they fit in with Deafheaven just fine.  Excellent post-rock stuff.

Also got to see Intronaut, Scale the Summit and Mouth of the Architect.  Everyone but MotA were incredibly boring and awful.  Scale the Summit is my least favorite band in the world now.  Intronaut was so boring.  There's no weight to their new music.  And no Australopithicus.  Shame.

My go-to Mouth of the Architect song.  Love metal covers of pop songs.

  12. Just finished reading "The Long Walk" by Stephen King from the Bachman Books.  I don't think I'm exaggerating but I think that might be one of his best ones ever.  Then again, my favorite King book is "Skeleton Crew," so perhaps the fact that it was only 260 some odd pages had something to do with it.  But yeah, it was awesome, and King actually nails a good ending for a change.

Debating whether to read more King or JOHN DIES AT THE END.

  13. Dwight to the Rockets makes them top 3 in the West behind San Antonio and OKC.  I think Chandler Parsons becomes a legit All Star with all the wide open looks he'll be getting with Dwight in the middle, and Harden is the best 2 guard in the league right now.  Who'd you take over him?  Kobe's hurt and likely washed up, Wade's a shell of his former self.  Only guards I take over Harden are nominally point guards (CP3, Westbrook).

With Asik and Lin, I don't think they're going anywhere until the trade deadline when Morey will use his Jedi Mind tricks into screwing someone over again.  However, with Dwight's back, Asik is a hell of an insurance policy.  With Lin, he's an average NBA point guard at this point in his career, and Coach McHale was finishing games with Pat Beverley anyway.

Finally, Dwight's got problems with his offensive game, but he's going to be spending his summer with Hakeem and McHale, two of the greatest post up big men in NBA history.  If and when he soaks up any of that, look out.  We've seen what a little Hakeem magic has done for others.

  14. Last of Us.  All the awards.

This game gives me the feels.  I near cried at least 4 times.  I don't want it to end.  I'm up to the part where I have to play Ellie because Joel is too f'd from the Firefly lab and those jerks are pissed because I had to hack them all up with a hatchet after they shot first.  Can't claim self-defense if you shoot first, dickwads.
