I don't care how they spin this moving forward. How can Tony Khan be so smart and yet so dumb at the same time?

That's a great way to phrase it. So many own goals on this show. Choosing to hype and debut Christian the way they did. Choosing to box themselves in with the exploding ring gimmick. The Sonic the Hedgehog ring.

  2. The Christian debut is the most TNA thing they’ve done to date, including the same theme music.

I like Christian a lot and there’s a place for him in AEW, but deciding that this was the way to debut him was a total botch.

Just off the top of my head, you could have done something like Hardy announces Private Party vs Silver/Reynolds in a ladder match, and since he’s the master of those Dark Order has no chance. Training vignettes, etc for a few weeks. Then debut Christian at the PPV as Silver/Reynolds’s manager and, surprise, he’s been training them all along also. Repeat the TIT final match and try to make some new stars.

I think the fans are right to start questioning some things. So many of the home grown young talent can barely get on TV, yet they continue to add to the roster.

It’s especially hilarious when he’s grasping at straws, like when he mentions that one of the Acclaimed guys’ father was in the NFL.  So real sports cred is hereditary, I guess.

I don't know; I always just thought JR was trying to legitimize his guys as athletes, and I never got an "embarrased to be in wrestling" vibe out of it. I could see where it might make wrestling seem small, but this happens on commentary for every sport anywhere. How many times have we heard about Mahomes's dad playing MLB? During every game he's ever played.

  4. I'll call my shot and predict that Coach Tony K does the ol' okie doke where Christian debuts as the last guy in the ladder match, fans/announcers react as if he's Show's big surprise to throw everyone off the scent, and then at the end of the show, the real surprise debuts after the main event is over. I'll predict Angle, though I'm fascinated by the idea of Brock Lesnar in AEW.

  5. We all kind of knew it, but it was cool to get verification that had Shaq decided to wrestle after retiring, he would had been incredible at it. Not surprising considering he's a crazy charismatic world class freak athlete giant, but yeah.

Also going back to Big Show as Mene Gene, I don't think wrestling (in kayfabe) has a Jay Glazer / Woj / Ken Rosenthal scoop guy character. I mean yeah Dave is that guy in the real world, but there's value in someone playing that role, 'leaking' signings and shit on pre-shows, and getting roughed up by heels to tell them who the secret third partner is or whatever.

It's been said that in his prime, Ric Flair could carry a broomstick to a 5 star match. With Edge, it's the opposite--the broomstick would be the one carrying him. Every great match Edge ever had required copious amounts of ladders, chairs, and other plunder to be memorable.

I can get with the general sentiment, but off the top of my head, No Mercy 2002 tag with Mysterio/Benoit/Angle was a five star banger.
