  1. Close fight but I think it has to hinge on how the judges score the first and fifth. Edit- nevermind. I've never been great at scoring fights in the moment.
  2. I get that but I didn't expect him to get thst damaged in the first. He's starting to turn it on now though.
  3. That has to be one of the best title fights ever. Thank god that was an interim title fight because a 3 rounder would have been a total disservice to those two.
  4. Eddie out in the quarterfinals. I figured he would make it through Timofey but man, I had a feeling Eddie wouldn't fare that well in One Championship but did not expect him to eat a loss this quick.
  5. The prelims should start at 2:30 am eastern time, main card at 5:30 am eastern time. I have no idea which ad you are referencing but all will be available on either the app or the youtube channel (though I've heard that might be region blocked in the States). The youtube video usually stays up for at least a couple weeks so you should be able to wake up Sunday morning and watch the youtube video.
  6. Hard to say about Aoki. I thought he was totally shot and/or mentally checked out when he fought Folayang the first time but I also didn't realise how good Eduard was at that time. The Askren fight was a bit dumb for obvious reasons and since then he's looked good against low-mid tier competition by One's standards. His win over Ev Ting, who is a decent fighter, was impressive in how quickly Aoki got him out of there. Team Lakay is one of my favourite stories from the organisation though. Like who saw an unknown camp in the Philippines emerging as one of the best camps in Asia? Eduard Folayang, Geje Eustacio, Kevin Bellingon, Danny Kingad and Joshua Pacio all represent Team Lakay and they're all in or around title contention and could be competitive in any organisation.
  7. I was in Bangkok for the past week on business so didn't have time to post, but what Oyaji said 100%. I was going to create a thread for the show with a bit of a preview and was going to link that same fight. Probably fight of the year for One Championship though I'm admittedly a bit biased when it comes to Aung La. Going into that fight I knew it would be one of his toughest yet, which is a pretty low bar when you look at some of the other opponents he's been matched up against, but Hasegawa really brought it. Ugly KO at the end too. There are not a lot of options at middleweight and above in One so while I'd rather them not run this one back so quickly, it does make sense given the show's in Japan and the drama in the first fight. Still a toss-up fight too, imo. It also looks like they're aiming for Aung La vs. Vera depending on the outcome here. Prelims start at 1:00 pm here, main card at 4:00 pm so I don't think I'm going to get a lot done on my Sunday. Probably skip the UFC show and watch that tomorrow night after the One event. This card though : LW Title: Eduard Folayang (21-6) vs. Shinya Aoki (42-8) WFLW Title: Jingnan Xiong (13-1) vs. Angela Lee (9-0) MW Title: Aung La N Sang (24-10) vs. Ken Hasegawa (16-3-1) BW Title: Kevin Belingon (20-5) vs. Bibiano Fernandes (22-4) FlyW Quarterfinal: Demetrious Johnson (27-3-1) vs. Yuya Wakamatsu (10-3) LW Quarterfinal: Eddie Alvarez (29-6) vs. Timofey Nastyukhin (12-4) 160 KB: Andy Souwer (160-21-1) vs. Yodsanklai Fairtex (201-71-4) Pre-lims FlyW Quarterfinal: Danny Kingad (11-1) vs. Senzo Ikeda (12-6-1) FlyW Quarterfinal: Kairat Akhmetov (25-2) vs. Reece McLaren (12-5) 135 MT: Rodtang Jitmuangnon (253-40-10) vs. Hakim Hamech (43-8) 135 KB: Hiroki Akimoto (20-0) vs. Joseph Lasiri (31-5) WSW: Mei Yamaguchi (18-11-1) vs. Kseniya Lachkova (10-2) FW: Anthony Engelen (8-5) vs. Garry Tonon (3-0) 145 MT: Panicos Yusuf (36-6) vs. Mohammed Bin Mahmoud (50-8) WW: Chang Min Yoon (0-1) vs. Bala Shetty (0-2) Pretty much everything from Engelen-Tonon up I'm looking forward to. Gary Tonon has been neat to watch transition to mma. If I had to guess, I think his ceiling is going to be pretty low but he always goes out there to test himself on his feet first before finishing with the expected sub. If my memory serves correctly, he had more trouble than I thought he should have finishing his last opponent which kind of lessened my opinion on how far he could go in the sport. Still someone to keep an eye on. Rodtang is a star and super fun to watch in the ring. The FlyW tournament fights are definitely worth a watch from the prelims as well. Yod/Souwer is happening about 10 years too late but I'd be lying if I wasn't hyped for it. It's like one of the Bellator main events if both men could still go. I fully expect Alvarez and DJ to look good and finish both opponents. I think Alvarez loses in the semi-finals though later this year though (to Tynanes, I think?). Bellingon/Bibi won't be an action packed fight but those two are so evenly matched. I think Angela Lee takes her first loss here and Folayang/Aoki is a really straight forward style vs. style fight that I think finishes within the first two rounds either way. I'm going to say that some spinny-Team Lakay shit finishes this fight (ie. either Folayang lands and drops Aoki or Aoki takes him down off it and gets the sub). So there's my ramblings on the show. So hyped.
  8. Not saying Fight Pass shouldn't be added on for certain audiences but for my corner of the world, Fight Pass is still the platform to watch UFC ESPN shows. I was really worried about the ppv news until I found the press release that stated it was only for the (North American?) market.
  9. What actually happened there? I can kind of see why Masvidal started throwing because Edwards hands come up right before that but it seemed strange for things to kick off so quickly. Admittedly I don't follow anything at all between fights. I come here for my mma news, primarily posted by elsalv and before that sprewell. I will rarely watch a countdown show when I've got an hour to kill and it's a card I'm looking forward to but aside from that, I don't really follow what happens between fights or around fight camps. Anyway, my belaboured point is that Masvidal made me a fan in his post-fight interview. He's a guy who has been on my radar since the Bodog/Sengoku days but have never really cared about him before. I don't know what it was about that post fight speech but it just came across as a classy, mma veteran who has paid his dues in the sport and is aiming for a title shot. Now, I really want to see him get there. re : Till, I like the guy but I do think they pushed him up the card a little too quickly. I get that that's a hard point to argue when he did take wins from Cerrone and Thompson and has had two big shows sold around his name. However, it was pretty clear from his undercard performances that he was good but more importantly, he was going to be marketable so they gave him a big opportunity early. Not saying it would have made a big difference, but part of me would like to see the alternate timeline where he has a more standard progression to the ranked fights.
  10. Ooooh, you just brought up something that annoys the hell out of me. Rizin has all the Pride / Heros / Dream /etc... nostalgia seekers drooling over what are sometimes plainly middling or worse cards. Their cup of noodles mascot or Gabi Garcia threatening elderly women will get more buzz than this card and that bothers me. I do enjoy Rizin shows and loved the hell out of Pride and all but those days are gone and they aren't coming back. Likewise, I think One's attempt here to build a substantial Japanese fanbase that they can profit from is going to crash and burn hard. At this point, I'd have to consider myself a diehard One supporter because I've seen them do some great things in this region. Chatri's hyperbole and the organisation's lack of transparency on all issues aside, I really want them to succeed.
  11. Some random bits that weren't mentioned here : PFL announced the women's roster for this year's tournament and the sub-headline might as well be 'make Kayla Harrison a millionaire'. Not that there are a ton of prospects at the weight class in the free market afaik anyway. One Championship continues to baffle me with the moves they make and recent signings. Since the Alvarez/DJ/Northcutt signings, they've (semi-)recently added Okami, Akiyama and Vitor Belfort. I get that they are making a big push into Japan but given that we have no idea whether or not that will be a success, the dollar figures attached to some of those contracts has to be a big gamble for a company that has a record of being unable to actually make any money. Speaking of the push into Japan, they have an absolutely stacked card scheduled for the 31st in Tokyo. However, it's come at the expense of all of their other markets in their main region, South East Asia. I still think it was downright stupid to put Angela Lee's title fight and Aung La Nsang's title fight in Tokyo when they could have been slotted into the Singapore show from a few weeks back and Friday's Myanmar show. From what I've heard, they had trouble selling out Singapore off of a Stamp Fairtex/Janet Todd main event and rightly so. If there's one country they should be making money in, it's Singapore - their home base and the strongest economy by far in the region. Myanmar's main drawing fight this weekend was Phoe Thaw in an absolutely terrible, bottom-of-the-barrel level fight. There was a legitimately strong main event in Kadestam vs. Kichigan which no one really cared about. Also, Belfort put out an instagram post basically saying that he's got a fight in the works with Roy Jones Jr. If that's true, that's another fight they'd be putting a lot of money into with again little or no return from their average fan's perspective. Having said all that, I still really enjoy the events they put on. March 31st definitely has that make it or break it feel that Tenshin-Mayweather had at Rizin NYE though. Finally, Tenshin's fighting today in one of the two big kickboxing shows from Japan. That shows available on fite.tv for $17. I'm still calling bs on the rumoured follow-up boxing match at Rizin but won't be surprised if it does turn out to be true.
  12. I'm not going to hold this performance against Jones. He knew he had nothing to gain in this fight and everything to lose. Why put yourself in any danger if you don't need to?
  13. Love him or hate him, you are not an mma fan if you're not hyped for a Jon Jones fight. I hope he can follow through on fighting 4 times this year.
  14. I have just now realised that Kamaru Usman is only 31 years old. For some reason I thought he was in his late thirties and the only thing I can attribute this to is somehow merging him with Kamal Shalorus in my mind. Weird.
  15. I think we've got ourselves a miscommunication here. Me and Natural were talking about Askren at the beginning of the fight. @Craig H
  16. Everyone ( but Craig) did. Herb could have stopped the fight there and I wouldn't have complained despite rooting for Askren.
