So, my new project is to watch all the 'B'-level pay-per-views, starting with the first In Your House. I'm not gonna do long match reviews or anything, but will share my thoughts as I go along, and I invite others to do the same. I had the first In Your House on video when I was a kid, and watched (and loved) the shit out of it. This is the first time I'd watched it in years though, so I was interested to see how it held up. Bret Hart Vs Hakushi: This had always been one of my favourite matches, and I always thought of it as a real classic. Unfortunately, upon rewatching it, it seems I was overrating it a whole lot. It's still a good match, but isn't really anything special. There are a couple of awkward moments between the two in the early going, and Shinzaki seemed to have a bit of a Muta-thing going on, where he could appear to just be going through the motions for stretches, punctuated by bursts of exciting offence. The finishing stretch is nice though. Razor Ramon Vs Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie: This was the debut of Savio Vega. It always made me sad how Aldo Montoya rushes down to help Razor at the end, but is just beaten down and forgotten about. The match itself is a solid, logical handicap match. Jarrett and Roadie were a good act, I thought. Mabel Vs Adam Bomb: KOTR qualifier, and just a squash really, though Bomb shows some decent agility. Owen Hart and Yokozuna Vs The Smoking Gunns: Decent for a short match. Jerry Lawler Vs Bret Hart: I think Bret and Lawler had good chemistry, but never really got the chance to work a great match with each other, mostly because Lawler was never portrayed as being on Hart's level, or a real physical threat to him. For instance, Bret pops right up from a Lawler piledriver here like he's Road Warrior Hawk. Hakushi gets involved, and the ref surely sees him interfere. Bad timing there. This was good for what it was. Diesel Vs Sid: The much-maligned Sid/Diesel feud. This wasn't terrible actually. Just boring, but not really offensive. DQ to set up the lumberjack match at the next ppv (and also the KOTR main event). Diesel cuts a decent promo before the match about his mother passing away (the show was on mother's day), which actually makes him sympathetic for a minute. Match of the night: Bret/Hakushi, which I'd have at about 3 1/4 stars. Show rating: 3 stars. Nothing outright sucked, but there was really nothing memorable about the show at all. To be fair, most shows they put on these days smoke this for in-ring action (though not booking!). Not sure why I loved this so much at the time. Probably because as a kid I didn't get to see all that many ppvs, and this, as a new concept, at least felt fresh at the time.

As I did for WrestleMania, Summerslam (both lost on the old board) and The Royal Rumble (http://deathvalleydriver.com/forum/index.php?/topic/2031-every-royal-rumble-match-ranked/#entry179156), I recently watched every Survivor Series match and attempted to rank them all. Having completed this project, I would say that Survivor Series has traditionally been the weakest of the big 4 pay-per-views, with a ton of matches falling into the 'solid' range, but not much breaking out into the 'great' range. I've always been a big advocate of them doing more traditional Survivor Series elimination matches too, but I have to say that more often than not those matches have been disappointing from an in-ring perspective (I still think it's cool seeing different guys interacting with each other though). Anyway, here are my rankings and, as always, I invite comment and criticism. 180. Eric Bischoff Vs Teddy Long (2005) 179. Doink Butch, Doink Luke, Doink Mo and Doink Mabel Vs Bam Bam Bigelow, Bastion Booger and the Headshrinkers (1993) 178. Some may recall me doing this on the old board for WrestleMania and Summerslam. Basically, I watched every Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and then attempted to rank the matches. This was probably harder than those other two to do, because it can be difficult comparing a royal rumble match, designed to go about an hour, to a regular singles or tag match. I tried my best, but I dare say if I did this all over again, the rankings might come out fairly different. For this one I also did mini-reviews for each match, explaining what I did or didn't like about it. I wanted to post two separate lists (one with the reviews and one without, so the people who didn't want to read the reviews didn't have to scroll through them all), but I'm lazy, and that would be too time consuming. As always, I invite criticism and (if you feel you must) ridicule, and I hope some of you share your own top whatever rumble matches too. Here we go then (in 2 parts):

...because I just found out I've almost got a check coming to me from Google for the ads. THE NEW GENERATION ERA PROJECT IS BACK! This time..it's for the money. For those who are new to the board or didn't read the thread last time on the old board, I've been working on a project for apparently 20 years, in which I watch pretty much all of the WWF programming from 1993 to the beginning of the Attitude Era(an ending that I'm not actually sure about when it is). During this project I've discovered many things, like Matt Borne's Doink the Clown is one of the best wrestlers in the company, and that Bret Hart and Ric Flair had a really great Iron Man match that was fancam'd. Go check it out. And feel free to post thoughts about whatever you see from this era, here. So any matches I should make sure to watch as I come to them, or if you go over old blog posts and want to tell me I said something stupid, FEED ME MORE. Anyway, enough with the introductions let's go: YEAH YEAH YEAH HEAVENLY BODIES ARE AWESOME LUDVIG BORGA BLEEDS DOINK GOES HOME ALONE ON BAM BAM BIGELOW & OH MY GOD THAT'S AL SNOW! It can only be... WWF SUPERSTARS 10.02.1993: http://jaedmc.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-wwf-new-generation-era-project.html Kind of not very important show. They're moving forward with this prankster Doink push, which..whatever Bigelow is kind of the perfect foil for that, since he's agile, and would be the guy people would most be afraid of pulling a prank on for fear for dying. Lots of Mr. Nanny commercials in this. Does anyone know the time line of when Hogan was for sure gone from the company? It wasn't the night Yoko, beat him right? Were they still in negotiations at this point? I guess I could google that, but I know someone will come through. Also, anyone know a really great Heavenly Bodies match from Smoky Mountain Wrestling? I would assume they did even better work there as a top team in epic tags.
