  1. The very first time I saw any WWF programming on tv, I saw a fat guy with rubberbands and food on his face leading two big angry looking guys to the ring. I couldn't understand how it could possibly be that this idiot could lead them from the isle of Samoa, through big, bad New York City, and into Madison Square Garden.

The very first time I saw any "Georgia Rasslin" on tv, it was because my grandfather flipped it on one Saturday morning. When the same guy that got the hell beat out of him that show got knocked around on Saturday Night on a different channel, and didn't have any bruises, I knew something was up.

I would like to say that kayfabe was broken for me somewhere those points A and B, but really it was when one of my neighbors said, "they get paid to act like they're fighting each other, kinda like guys get paid to act like they're shooting each other in cowboy movies." TBS showing Clint Eastwood and John Wayne flicks at 8:05 PM Saturday back then made sense to me after that.

Oh, and trying to talk to friends about it as if it "Wasn't fake", yeah Duggan and Sheik really killed that for a lot of people, myself included.

  2. Was showing a 90s "Greatest Matches" comp tape to a friend and got to a 6 man with Super Delfin Gran Naniwa and Michinoku vs. Sasuke, Shiru and Tiger Mask. There's a woman at ringside in a Super Delfinesque costume. I reckon she was a joshi back then. Any of you have any idea which joshi I'm referring to, as in, did a regular character as "Supergirl Delfin" exist?

  3.

And, man, Deuce, Domino and Cherry have THE greatest theme music of modern times.

At a house show back in 07, Deuce and Domino gave me dirty looks and a lot of grief on the mic for eyeballing Cherry. I think they did that every other show during thir run, and I just happened to be their target that night. Good times.

Just watched their Smackdown debut the other day, where JBL goes from "What the hell is this?" to "I like these guys." in under 10 minutes. That gimmick, and that music, was pure gold.

  4. I like Fandango for the World Hvy. contract win. They'd have him come out after ever match or beatdown the champ gets involved in.

But he doesn't cash it in, he just takes the opportunity to dance. Every Week.

Every week until they tape another RAW in front of That Crowd that sent his theme song up the charts.

And then he wins the belt. And upgrades his dance partner to either the original Mrs. Fandango...or a returning Stacy Keibler.

  5. They just finished the Have Not competiton, and Aaryn's an HN for the week. Well, now thru Tuesday or so. Comp wasn't shown on the feeds, but there's talk that some of her teammates of the day might've thrown the competition to make sure she'd suffer on slop.

  6. It's one of my fave ladder matches ever. Was taped in the Davis Arena, so you had a small loyal crowd that reacted well, or at least paid a lot of attention, to most everything that night. Announcers sold every use of the ladder well, as if hit hurt them just to watch it.

Great opening to a match in that Katie Lea was outside of the ring posing on the ladder whilst Beth was in the ring doing the usual "stare at the belts routine", and then Katie just dove off the ladder with a crossbody when Beth came to confront her. I can't off hand think of another match where the first move was a jump like that. Match was well timed and paced. It wasn't a 2 minute rushjob, or a 20 minute bloody war, but actually just long enough for a championship bout on a 1 hour syndicated weekly show.

Burchil in OVW was a proper villain, and should've down well with the same gimmick in WWECW. The taping after he won the OVW belt, they did a typical backstage "everyone checks out the new champ" shoot, but this one ended with Paul being confronted by fellow Brit Steve Lewington. I think he was DJ Gabriel in ECW for a month. Anyway, when Paul said, "Compared to me, you're like Elton John, and I'm Jack The Ripper, " I thought it, combined with how he won, gave the territory an quality segue into a new top heel.

  7. Watching OVW's last tv taping of 2006. It's the one where Burchill won the Heavyweight Title 2 minutes after Chet The Jet won it,  after Burchill invoked an "anytime anyplace" title shot he won earlier that month. They gave us the big finish matches for multiple feuds/storylines that night, including Deuce and Domino ( with Cherry, of course) vs. Spears/Rhodes, and most notably Beth Phoenix vs. Katie Lea via Ladder Match.
