  1. I'm inclined to take some umbrage at the "wrestling fans can't get into ARGs but fans of other media can."

I don't really dig ARGs in any form.  So, don't overgeneralize to me.

And in this particular case, I'm not going to hop a plane to Philly - can't afford it if I wanted to, and don't want to anyway - so I'm not particularly keen to have to wait until some Chikara fan gets on the forum there to post "well that was sumthing," so then I have to start posting questions about "what happened," "then what," "what then," and "I wonder what that's supposed to be a reference to."

  2. If you didn't read that Chikara PDF and get completely excited about the professional wrestling as a true high-concept art form then I have no time for you, sir.

Well, there's exciting, then there's ... whatever it is that Chikara is doing.  It was intriguing when it all started out ... about three months ago.  But the more I saw all the secret shenanigans going on, and all those forum fans with their "PM me that address" and secret language kind of stuff, and nods to posts that had been deleted that might have added some clue to what they were talking about, I came to a monumentous decision:

If I have to stay attached 24-7 to a message board, several Twitters, at least three separate websites, and research every odd word/name/location in a blog post, compare every show title to the names of songs on some random CD, right-click every image and follow it back to its source, and actually go to fucking Philadelphia from hodunky-podunky low-country SC to get some holy grail DVD that provides just one more clue to the whole thing ... it's less like "exciting" and more like "work," and I already have a "job" that pays me very little for all that I do, I don't need "leisure" to treat me the same way.

And that last show, Chikara was treating it like a "jumping on point" for new fans to get involved in their brand of wrestling.  If I had JUST found out about them, and this was going on, that would turn me completely off.  I wish we were already a year down the road, so I can look back on all of this and be impressed with how it was all set up. THAT's when I might be more excited.  Maybe Chikara "ending" just hit me at a time when I didn't want to be fucked around with by something I enjoyed ... [insert personal, kinda sad recollection that I had already spent a long time typing but decided nope, none of you jerkwads deserve to know more about nate gizzle].  So, the quicker we are back to getting regular King of Trioses, the happier I guess I'll be.

  3. See that's all I knew, but I thought nate was referring to something new. It kills me because my son keeps asking when Chikara is coming back and I have to tell him "Son, they hate you."

Thanks Mike Quackenbush. Thanks a lot.

My daughter asked me the other day if we could go see "Snake Man" (Ophidian) wrestle, for her birthday next year (when she turns 6).  I just patted her on the head and told her to finish her Calculus.

  4. To try and answer all Chikara posts:

Real quick note:  Just did my monthly check on the progress of whatever Chikara is becoming.  Yeah ... glad I got out when I did.  On to October!

What was the specific revelation that has turned you off? As a relatively casual observer, I have found most of the stuff pretty interesting.

I've enjoyed the wrestling and characters, since I really got into it about 2011.  I also liked that it was wrestling that I could watch with my daughter, and not worry about "holy shits" and sexual innuendo.  But when they shut down as unexpectedly as they did, it was a disappointment ... then came what I refer to as Chikara: The LARPing.  I was on the forums and there was all this conspiracy stuff about Condor Security and Titus Conglomerates ... then it appeared you had to visit three or four websites for some background on what was going on with Chikara ... then Icarus was meeting fans at all the places where shows after the June 2nd "last show" were scheduled then cancelled ... Some random posts on the Chikara 101 forum would get edited or deleted, which left gaping holes in commentary from fans, that only a few fans seemed to understand what was being talked about, leaving other casual fans in the dark.  Now, it appears as if 1) new videos are surfacing that are suggesting a "reboot" of Chikara "continuity" (sigh), 2) if you went to some website a few weeks back and plugged in your name and contact info, last week some posters on Chikara 101 received phone calls from some kayfabe aspect of Chikara, and 3) there's some big thing going on in Philly that Icarus is gathering, but there's possibly some other wrestlers coming along, and Icarus (in prior meetings with fans at other cancelled venues) may have left DVDs behind that have secret info on how to get deeper into the storyline-that-isn't-a-storyline.  Nope, too much; tap-tap-tap-tap.

  5. Speaking of the discontinuance of his show, I also have to say that Chappelle deserves to lose several points of respect for how he handled the potential third season of Chappelle Show.  According to numerous news outlets, reputable ones at that (if there is such a thing), CC was saying, "Hey, remember all that money we already gave you?  Think you could come back and put together a third season?"

    Dave: "No."

CC: "Well, we'll just cobble together a season three with all the stuff you have in the can already, before your 'trip' to Africa."

Dave: "You do that, and I'll never come back and do a third season."

CC: "Oh, then you might come back and do season three?"

    Dave: "No."

And so on and so on, until you got that "Chappelle Show: The Lost Sketches" thing with Charlie Murphy & Ashy Larry.

I've never seen anything confirming if CC sued his nutsac bare for breach of contract.

  6. To backtrack to the "best Indian wrestler" issue, I wanted to mention this for a while, because I think it's some kind of in-joke (probably a reference to the Paul & Brian's Excellent Adventure shoot):

    Ramaa: The Saviour

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1279105/

    starring Great Khali, Dhalip Singh

The Wikipedia page lists the producer as ... Paul London.  (IMDB has no such listing, so I call bullshit, obviously.)

But what a random name for some wiki-vandal to plug in, unless there's some reason behind it.

  7. I wasn't really quite sure where I fell on the issue, until today's news where he hoped that North Korea would drop a nuclear bomb on Hartford, CT, and that seeing him "melt down" on stage was akin to having the privelege (his emphasis) of having been there to see Sigfried or Roy get attacked by the tiger, all those years ago.  Oh, and he got to pull out the phrase "pull a reverse Kramer," saying he should have gone off and called the crowd "crackers;" which is to say, he would have pulled a regular, run of the mill "Kramer."  Racism is universal, there's no such thing as "reverse racism"*.

*Unless you call it what it is: LOVE!!

So yeah, fuck you Dave Chappelle, for clearing up the doubt I had that you got what you asked for.  Because you got what you asked for.

  8. I'm confused as to why people think the Briscoes would balk at playing dumb hillbillies that are constantly doing dumb things. Isn't that them now? I mean, I know they say fuck a lot, and that is means they are super serious, but basically any time the toothless one opens his mouth a jug band starts to play some where.

You can shut up, Chicken is the key signing that will SAVE WRESTLING!

  9. What I meant was, I was just toodling along, reading his autopsy casually (out of a morbid interest), when bam! There's the description of his meat & two veg, then it threw a light on, 1. Having read about his junk, that's probably going to intrude on my mind watching his matches, but then 2. What kind of ghoul reads autopsy reports for leisure?

So, it wasn't as weird as you might have first thought ... um, sorry?

  10. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomyolysis

It's the perfect storm of exercise-induced medical conditions. A lot of contributing factors combined with doing way too much physical exertion, and ignoring every single warning sign your body throws at you.

And if you're going to be a mark and work out, then you've got to do it right like this: http://instagram.com/p/deie9moh6f/

Thanks.  It just sounds like one of those "too disturbing to be true" kind of things, but ... yeah.  Ugh.
