I do wonder if she actually won't wrestle anywhere else. Bushiroad seems pretty open to working with other groups if how they handle New Japan is any proof; Stardom's isolation seems like it was due to Rossy. It will be very interesting to see how cooperative Stardom will be post-Rossy, and I'd like to see how that goes before I write off Saori as being gone from Oz for good. This could easily be Saori making Stardom her priority and letting them handle her outside bookings (especially since Oz only runs 20-ish shows a year, so letting her work a handful might not be out of the question).

Yeah, Oz runs once, maybe twice a month and Saori has been on almost every show since she started with Stardom. It helps that Oz does the majority of their shows in Tokyo. It's only a one-year contract so maybe it's there to off-set whoever leaves in April. The two of the bigger text blurbs from the article state that the main difference for her is that she won't be considered "free" for the time being and that in a year she may feel differently.

  2. For better or worse, SANADA was on the road to being Goto'd until he got a haircut and left LIJ. And he got to win the title over Okada which now in retrospect was the beginning of the end of the Okada era. If Goto goes through Tsuji and Naito though, they may as well just give him a chyron that says "Transitional Champion." Or "Lifetime Achievement Award Before Moving on to Limit Break."

  3. Finals are set as Tsuji and LIJ finally got the best of EVIL and Goto beat SANADA. Tsuji and Goto have never met one on one and even then Tsuji only has one win out of a number of tags (mainly six-mans).

Since the beginning Naito has been waiting for either Tsuji or Takagi to get through to face him at Sakura Genesis. On the other hand, Goto is Mr. New Japan Cup, having been in the finals six (now seven) times and winning three..but his last visit was eight years ago. And also the announcers played up his father passing away earlier in the year a bit.

  4. Other than EVIL and SANADA, aside from having lower case letters in their names everyone else would represent a relatively fresh match-up for Naito. He and Goto have gone at it in the G-1 and tags mainly. He and Takagi had one G-1 match four years ago and that's it. He sent Tsuji away overseas but that was also a while ago. He's never had a singles with Finlay or Narita. I don't think he's ever had a match with Jungle Jack.

  5. Most of wrestling fandom: New Japan needs to get going with moving their younger talent up the ranks!

Narita beats ZSJ via HOT chicanery in the NJ Cup.

    Everyone: NOT LIKE THAT!

Still, it does set up Ren and Yota. And really, Zack has won the cup twice and had nothing to show for it. Another deep G-1 run or god forbid, winning the G-1 (or the title, even) is probably better for him.

The only person who has been able to thwart HOT completely by himself was Okada during the last G-1 semifinals. It will be telling if either Takagi or Yota can overcome the shenanigans on their own.

  6. As was said in the Puroresu General thread, Yutaka Yoshie passed away tonight. He went to the back after his match and didn't feel well and passed away at nearby hospital.

Also, not that I want more dead wrestlers but this thread is like four pages of people talking about Ole Anderson after he passed away at the end of February.

  7. Lot of chatter about the debut of Kaisei Takechi at the DDT show over the weekend. He is a member of the group THE RAMPAGE from EXILE Tribe. EXILE is a popular music act that spun off into and ha...you know what, just leave say he's from THE RAMPAGE. He actually trained with DDT in 2022 because he played the part of the rival to the main character in Fukumen D, an online drama on Abema. They called the group BBT but Sanshiro Takagi and some DDT wrestlers made appearances. He's sort of but not quite an analogue to Yuki Arai.

  8. Show just finished:

    Spoiler

Nothing much happened other than DOUKI getting a big win over Hiromu. Crowd was really behind him by the end too.

Naito retained over SANADA in a so-so bout. Naito hilariously (to me, anyway) pins SANADA with his tornado cradle after SANADA gets all pumped up. Naito then invites Okada (who did commentary for the last three matches) in to the ring, offers him the LIJ fist, spits in his face when he is about to, and the two do a little dosey-do. Then NJPW gives us a literal shot of Okada going through the EXIT.

So far, the Anniversary main will really be Naito versus SHO.

  9. A bunch of questionable title changes in Sapporo:

    Spoiler

SHO won the Jnr Hvy title after Despy's "if I win, SHO quits H.O.T." backfires and he gets counted-out, which I believe according to the stips Despy laid down, allowed the title to change hands.

Riddle beat Tanahashi clean to win the TV title.

Nemeth beat Finlay to win the Global title. Match was fine but the crowd didn't really warm up to Nic until after the match, I think.

    Also, EVIL retained over Umino.
