  1. Not much by way of surprises at New Year Dash.

    Spoiler

I think added to Battle in the Valley:

Despy vs Ishimori (not sure - could also be at New Beginning)

    KUSHIDA vs Takeshita (definitely added)

Probably happening at New Beginning (or one of the Road to shows):

    ZSJ vs Goto

    YOH/Rocky vs Robbie/Fujita

    Tsuji vs Gabe

    Drilla vs Takagi

    O-Khan vs Umino

    Tanahashi/Boltin/Yano vs HOT

    Oiwa vs YOSHI-HASHI

    Taichi vs SANADA

    Undetermined when happening:

    Naito/Hiromu vs the Young Bucks

    Boltin vs Takeshita

  2. Speaking of commentary, because this was a "joint" AEW/NJPW/CMLL show Miki Motoi got to do the show for the Japanese side as she is one of the hosts of NJPW World's AEW recap show. Like the Fantastica Mania shows, her role is to provide background info on the outsiders for NJPW fans.  I don't watch that much AEW or WWE but I'm pretty sure this is the only major show involving either that will have a female commentator on it (as opposed to someone doing a guest spot).

Kidani commented on how Dynasty failed to present properly as either a cooperative show or an inter-company rivalry, so that angle was definitely a consideration.

Okada throwing the new gen under the bus on his way out looks to have been a turning point (definitely not just a wrestler wanting a bigger payday). It's no coincidence that Yota and Gabe have been airing their grievances about the subject and have such strong crowd support. For those characters it wouldn't make sense for them to feel otherwise, and there's enough reality in there for it to resonate.

2024 was a spectacular year for New Japan in terms of getting younger wrestlers over unless you think rocket strapping is the only kind of push that counts.

With regards to rocket strapping, pretty much every other big Japanese promotion has done that in the past couple of years. NOAH, AJPW and Dragongate have all put their main belts on guys with less than five years of experience (the Saito Brothers are nearly 40 though). The only trend New Japan has been following is putting guys into units really early or even before they go on an excursion. Dragongate has taken that to a new level with putting a guy into ZBratz on his very first show.

  4. Show is over:

    Spoiler

Momo won the International Cup by pinning Athena. Athena challenged Thekla (whose interference led to the finish) and they'll meet at the January 13th Stardom show.

    Dustin/Sammy retained over HOT.

The lucha gauntlet participants were Hechicero, Kosei Fujita, Soberano Jr, Master Wato, Mascara Dorada, Taiji Ishimori, Titan and Despy. Ishimori pinned Despy after a dive train and Fujita had Despy in trouble.

Tanahashi and Shibata chopped each other for five minutes.

Mone beat Shirakawa and now has a triple crown of TNT/Strong/Rev Pro.

    Finlay beat King.

    Umino beat Claudio.

Takeshita retained the AEW International and NEVER belts. He later said backstage he is signed with NJPW, DDT and AEW. Kushida challenged him to a NEVER title match at Battle in the Valley.

The Bucks are now the IWGP tag champions.

    Tsuji retained over Perry.

    Omega beat Gabe. Tanahashi cried.

ZSJ closed out the show pinning Rick O'Shea.

  5. Is it the first time having the beer girls during WK? I don't remember seeing them before. They are usually a baseball thing so it makes sense that they have them on call for anything at the Dome.

I think because I was unsure about who was going to win the main that it didn't feel that long to me.

  6. Whew.

    Spoiler

    Long show.

ZSJ wins in a long main event. I'm sure Umino is the future but not yet.

Unfortunately, DOUKI got injured on a dive and they stopped the match almost immediately.

    Results:

Goto won the Rambo and gets an IWGP title shot.

TMDK won the four-way junior tag.

    Mayu retained.

    El-P won the TV title.

Tanahashi beat EVIL and then Shibata came out for a post-match save and Tanahashi/Shibata has been added to Wrestle Dynasty.

Takeshita beat Shingo for the NEVER title.

Despy is the new junior champion via stoppage.

Tsuji is the new global champion.

Naito beat Hiromu but they are still friends and the tag title match at Dynasty is now the Bucks vs Naito/Hiromu vs O-Khan/Cobb.

    ZSJ beat Umino.

  7. They are an upper mid-tier j-rock band.

In Japan the biggest acts can do dome tours (six domes in all). Base Ball Bear is more of a Zepp level band. Zepp is a network of concert halls across the country. They usually hold about 2000 or so each. In wrestling terms, it's kind of like a promotion that can reliably run Korakuen but beyond that is probably not something they can do on their own.

Do FMW-E shows make tape? I am having trouble finding stuff but I'm not good at searching Japanese sites.

I think they record their shows but as far as I can tell, they have no streaming service and they've only put out an Onita 50th Anniversary DVD. I don't think we've seen footage of the Dory Funk Jr match from this year, only photos.

  9. At some point, Jake's team had to know that Mike was not the Mike of old. They really really could have shown that they support women's boxing by putting Serrano/Taylor as the main. Netflix wouldn't have wanted it but they could have tried or made a show of trying to do it.

  10. Konosuke Takeshita vs Shingo Takagi, has possibly been added to Wrestle Kingdom post Fighting Spirit Unleashed.

Jack Perry challenged Yota Tsuji to a match at Wrestle Dynasty while David Finlay issued an open challenge for the 5th. All that together means it doesn't look like Tsuji is winning on the 4th.
