I can't imagine that ANYONE paying attention to an MJF promo is going to be upset by the notion that AEW is the #2 promotion.

In fact I kind of feel like that's almost THE POINT of AEW.

AEW avoided TNA's cliche of "invading faction from another company that we can't legally say" for a few years, but The Outcasts aren't any better than the worst of those

Four Pillars joining forces as a Four Horsemen clone is within the realm of possibility depending on how sad things get

And what exactly is the fictional bidding war of 24 story doing for anyone? It makes AEW look like they’re a minor league company. You won’t ever see Roman come out on Smackdown winking at the camera, declaring his love for Tony Khan, and speaking in circles about how if Triple H doesn’t play the game correctly he’ll jump to AEW.

If MJF is legit gone next year, it'll be funny to see if "Four Pillars" are ever mentioned again or if that term quietly gets memory-holed

And even the Observer said that the story that Punk was originally going to lose to Hangman but was pressuring TK to change the finish is untrue. And it’s not like Meltzer or Alvarez like to carry water for Punk or something. They verbatim say that TK wanted the title on Punk.

Do you think Tony Khan is above lying to Meltzer so that his shop looks less sloppy, given that every single word out of his mouth is nothing but positive spin?

The only non-passive thing the guy has ever done is be cunty towards Big Swole on Twitter

Can’t believe we’re in here acting like a crowd turning hostile on Punk is something he or TK/AEW are scared of. Or pretending that he pulled a Hogan and demanded the World title.

    Wild.

They're restructuring the entire company because Phil and the Bucks hurt each other's egos, and neither side wants to be perceived as "the bad guy"

In truth, both parties are damaged goods now and there's plenty of blame to go around for that

    Absolutely.

My disdain for Punk is documented, however, the MJF/Punk feud is bar none one of my favorite feuds in AEW's history and I'm not a fan of either admittedly.  They did a fantastic job hooking me in and I proudly own a Punk/MJF dog collar shirt from PWT.  It doesn't need a belt, at all.  It has enough legs on it's own to merit more and I would be happy if it did, but i can't express enough my fear that they will run it back revolving around the belt and once again Punk will have his ego stroked by having someone do the job for him that he doesn't deserve.

I could easily see the Toronto crowd turning on Punk at Forbidden Door, so that's going to be really interesting - he gets the hero's welcome in Chicago, then a few days later steps into Bizarro World. I wonder if they keep him off Forbidden Door for that reason.

  6. I'm of the opinion "go with the hot hand and worry about the fallout after".

Luger took 4 years to recover from the Yokozuna loss, and by then he was in another company - now Cody's walking around with a martyr complex and trying to simulate his Dad's career (wanting a Bullrope match with Lesnar is especially cringey).

If he never wins the big one in WWE and ends up back in AEW as their world champion, he'll have successfully followed the Dusty/Luger formula. But it seems like such a waste given all the momentum he had.

In other lucha libre news, Rush (and his dad) just up and quit AAA despite being booked in the Triplemania co-main w/ LA Park vs. Psycho Cloen & Sam Adonis. He claims he's "completely independent".

All I can think of is Rush and LA Park must have some gentleman's agreement to hold off on a Lucha de Apuestas match until Park's ready to retire

Because they've both been ducking it for years now

Any thoughts on who he could be facing this time around? Who would be the most interesting options of the currently healthy roster? There's many directions one could go with this.

I would *hope* the show gets headlined by Speedball vs. Ospreay since that was supposed to happen at the first Multiverse United before Ospreay's injury

I could see Bully Ray lobbying for a match with Tanahashi since it's the ECW Arena

  9. You have to remember too that right before Flair came in, Vince wanted to bring in Mike Rotunda as Michael Wallstreet before having a brainfart like he did with Marc Mero and realizing he couldn't use his WCW gimmick for legal reasons.

I'm guessing Money Inc. was originally going to be "The Million Dollar Men" or something along those lines.

Vince had a knack for taking gimmicks on their last legs and saying "LET'S MAKE TWO OF EM!", notably The Natural Disasters, The Mounties/Quebecers  and The SuperModels (Martel and Callis).

AEW needs a Jack Tunney. Not an Eric Bischoff or a Teddy Long or even a William Regal. They need a dude that is a figurehead president/matchmaker/whatever that ONLY appears to make big announcements. And by "big announcements" I mean anything that Tony Khan would currently do. That's it. I don't want him on tv making matches for later in the show or screwing over faces or dressing down heels. I just want a person who makes announcements instead of Khan. Someone who can talk on tv without looking like a giant weirdo.

I'm thinking along the lines of Nick Bockwinkel, who was 60 when he joined WCW as Commissioner

Moving Sting into that role after he retires would probably be the easiest thing to do

    Commissioner Borden

So does that mean no Punk promo?

I'm sure all the paperwork Punk had to sign included "no unapproved promos"

Highly doubt he's ever getting a live mic ever again without clearing everything ahead of time

  12. If you're going to let MJF rip the babyfaces a new asshole, don't have the babyface standing in the ring with him during promos

Tonight felt like that RAW promo from years ago where CM Punk ripped on Kevin Nash, but at least they weren't both in the ring for that

Like when the Pillars did their promos together a few weeks ago - why not have one at ringside, one on the ramp, one standing on a table, and one in the ring. By having them all within spitting distance it was just silly.

No one with any balls would have just stood there.
