  1. If we're ignoring the whole "city they were billed from" rule from the original post, Asheville is 100 miles from Charlotte, so throw Edge onto Team Charlotte with Flair and JYD.

Ellerbe, NC is also within 100 miles of Charlotte.  Why is that important?  It's where Andre the Giant retired.  He's on Team Charlotte now too.

  2. People are sleeping on Team Charlotte, especially depending on whether guys like Steamboat or Dustin who have been billed from there at some point would count.

I'm sure we can fill out the team with other awesome dudes, but a team that has Flair and JYD together automatically becomes awesome. Also Vince was born right outside Charlotte. It would be tremendous having Vince begrudgingly having to be on the redneck team. I imagine vignettes with Flair showing Vince how to dip while JYD takes Vince out for grits and pork wings. Barbecue sauce and dip vomit would be everywhere.

Add in Ron Killings in Pretty Ricky mode, and it's even better.

  3. "Are you here to get a cookie, Sami?" with JBL looking on sympathetically. That's the stuff. Insane goofball JBL fits into NXT so well.

I don't know how well Bo will translate to Raw (I'm thinking more Santino or 3MB than goofy Angle), but that cookie line may be one of favorite bits in a long time.

Batten down the hatches - from this weeks Observer

Davey Richards was in Preston, England, on 10/31 as part of several weeks overseas and doing seminars in the country on a tour that ended on 11/1. After his match, he thanked the U.K. fans for their support. He said that whenever he's felt like quitting pro wrestling, he comes to the U.K. and rediscovers his passion for wrestling. He said that the U.K. fans had saved his life. He then said there has been a lot of speculation about where he and Eddie (never saying Edwards) will be going next and which promotion. He said that for legal reasons, he can't talk about it, but if this is his last tour of the U.K., he said he had gone out on a high note. He said that wherever he and Eddie would wind up, there would be fireworks. He never said WWE, but clearly implied it.

Right now everything involving Richards & Edwards (currently in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH's GHC singles tournament as the ROH rep) is secretive but what I do know is HHH's original decision was to turn both down, right to the point of saying on the subject that we don't hire guys like Davey Richards (both too big a name and they want unknowns that they can say they started and the size issue as well), who he knew. But there were people in the company who stood up to him on that one and told him he was wrong.

I don't know exactly how this is going to work, but based on what Richards said and other things I've heard, they may get a foot in the door and being a tag team saved both of them because HHH is looking for tag teams. Both men's ROH contracts have expired although they may either be working on a short-term extension, or with no contract. I'm actually pretty sure it's the latter.

They didn't sign new deals because they were hopeful of being picked up out of the last WWE training camp, where Edwards was apparently the standout in camp. This will all play out in some form rather quickly

Triple H must have watched this:

Quick, FSW, tweet that to HHH!

  5. Re:Jae's great commentary piece, I'm catching up on NXT, watching the episode with the 2 of 3 falls Zayn match, and during the Bayley-AJ match, there's a point where Bayley keeps going for multiple covers on AJ. The announcers play it off as this silly, inexperienced thing. I remember someone calling a match, maybe Ventura, talking about how the person making the covers knew they weren't likely to get a pin, but it made their opponent use that much more energy kicking out, and there was always the chance to sneak a three count in. I love little touches like that.

  6. I picked this up at Red Box yesterday. I was immediately disappointed to discover that they still require an online pass. I would assume that 2K would have meant the end of that.

What all do you need the online pass for?

I thought I read Meltzer saying that Ryback is convinced he's going to fight Goldberg at Mania 30 and they're just doing the negotiations.

That match would be so awful.

Honestly, if it were presented as a spur-of-the-moment thing, where Ryback calls him out at Wrestlemania & the match is just Spear --> Jackhammer, thanks for coming. I imagine it would get a big-ass pop. I'd mark, I won't front.

I don't think they'd blow the chance to have Goldberg boost a WM buyrate like that, but just imagine the pop on a Raw if they managed to keep it a surprise, and Goldberg randomly comes out through the crowd and spears Ryback.
