I would agree, but tbh the whole Triple Crown thing kind of puts a damper on this entire tournament. Why does anyone like Swerve or Moxley care about holding a lower tier New Japan belt, the ROH title, and a completely new belt? And nobody better give me that “oh it’s still a title/World title”. No, it’s a downgrade from even the AEW International title.

They really should have just made this thing into their G1, where the winner gets a title shot at a later date. Swerve (or whoever) winning and MJF knowing that even if he gets through Samoa Joe, while injured, he still has to face the winner of this thing in a month or two? Come on. That’s infinitely better than shuffling someone with name value to NJPW STRONG or ROH shows to bolster the appeal of either/both.

It symbolizes you won a grueling tournament with some of the top mat workers in the world. It's like competing in a decathlon or a Tuff Mudder.

  2. I'm going to come right out and say that CM Punk's promo was horse manure. It was a whole lot of nothing and just patronizing garbage.

What people wanted tonight was another pipebomb. What they got was a wet fart.

The only truthful thing he said tonight was what he said to the camera. "I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to make money," which directly contradicts what he said earlier.

Wasn’t Punk getting boo boos because he couldn’t main event WM but The Miz did? The Miz is a pretty remarkable WWE performer and also a very solid wrestler who does absolutely anything needed and works to get everything he can over. Or he makes others go above and beyond to cement their spot — LA Knight. He is a PROFESSIONAL and the kind of performer who should get big spots.

Chris Jericho tried to explain to Punk about what it means to go on last if no one gives a shit:

    Quote

“I remember talking with CM Punk years later and one of his big reasons why he left wrestling was he was really mad he wasn’t the main event at Wrestlemania, he wasn’t on last. I said, ‘Dude, you worked with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania, that’s the main event. Any match with Taker.’ He said, ‘You can’t say that because you were on last.’ Okay, I was on last, but I wasn’t the main event. Just because you’re on last doesn’t make you the main event per se.”

Trying to remember a show when Punk was scathing with Miz/that decision and Miz was very complimentary about Punk.

The one I recall the most is CM Punk's WWE documentary.

  4. Meltzer has no conviction when it comes to his opinions on star ratings. All I heard on his show was criticism about the match. He clearly overrates all the AEW matches than he normally would any other promotion. Same thing happened with Omega and Moxley’s death match.

But this is why I don’t like star ratings anymore. There’s no true standard.

I used to think if a match was five stars it was nigh perfect or a standard of excellence. But if you are suddenly rating things six or seven stars, you’ve lost the plot.

Cody was the only one of those three that mattered and he's been gone for nearly 2 years and AEW is trucking along at the same pace. Punk was on TV for like a month of his last year with the company and everyone was ready to move on from him. Jade was pushed hard, but was never a key piece of anything. Stat did more for the secondary belt in a few months than Jade did in her whole 60 match streak.

If there's one thing that's become abundantly clear over the last couple of years, it's that WWE is the clear #1, AEW is a healthy #2, and no amount of talent movement changes that.

I mean the whole Shaq match was built around Jade Cargill's in-ring debut. To say she was never a key piece of anything is a misnomer. They aren't trucking along at the same pace anymore.

Oh btw I love this shit. I unapologetically loved worked shooty bullshit. And I been wanting a real promotion war between WWE and AEW for a while, but Tony keeps playing the high road horseshit instead of having Moxley or Rusev or Keith Lee or Toni Storm or whoever do a scorched earth anti-WWE promo. Other than Punk taking some lightweight shots, the worst we've gotten is Serena Deeb (rightfully) calling Vince, Johnny, and Bucky creepy old men for making her get implants. If Tony won't go Bischoff on his own, maybe Punk can coax it out of him...

    Was this high road horseshit?

Swerve would work just because it's Swerve and people are ready to see him get the belt.

I like the idea of Britt Baker being the devil over Cole, but I don't trust AEW creative or announcers to pull it off.

If this is about Punk, lol, no it's not. Just as he didn't vault AEW past WWE, he won't widen WWE's lead or shrink AEW's base either.

They've now lost three of their top stars to WWE. They build their Saturday primetime two-hour TV show around CM Punk. They built an entire title around Jade Cargill. Cody was their poster boy and face of the brand and the spokesperson.

  8. Cody claimed he and Punk were dinner buddies and on good terms in AEW.

    Quote

“I also had a great relationship with Punk. He was my dinner buddy,” Rhodes said. “They’d order dinner for me at AEW every week as one of my management perks or whatever. I don’t think he knew, I always just put it on my tab because I wanted to make sure he was getting something too, salmon or sushi. We didn’t talk a lot, but I had a great relationship. We’d still chat, and I was so excited to have him back. If you remember when he came back, everyone was fired up about that.”

  9. That Madame Web trailer perfectly encapsulates why making a Madame Web movie is stupid and makes no sense. Madame Web is a soothsayer. She's an oracle. She's not a leading lady. She's not a superhero. She's not even that great of a character.

Also, why is Ezekiel dressing like Evil Spider-Man?

  10. If we have any kaiju fans here, I just wanted to let everyone know that Godzilla Minus One is the best Godzilla movie since the original, and I loved it. I saw the US premiere in LA, and it was spectacular.

Shin Godzilla was more of a political satire. This is a post-WWII drama mixed with a disaster movie. Great reset for the franchise, and it actually nails the human story.

    See this movie opening day.
