  1. Now that we know drugs were found in Shane Del Rosario's system, is that what likely triggered his heart attack and cardiac arrest?  I know he was diagnosed with Long QT Syndrome, but doesn't cocaine basically speed up and destroy your heart?  Also, I'm not trying to kick a dead man while he's down, but I'm curious because its tragic to see young athletes die so young like this.

No one has said anything, but reading that Joe Camacho died of a heart attack at 40, it sounds suspicious.

  2. Apatow himself said that going up against The Hobbit forced his marketing hand. Even then, I know the hipster backlash has been furious for all the marketing.

They've done everything short of Anchorman 2 happy meals.

  3. I'm iffy on the whole TRT and steroids thing.  Personally, I don't really care if fighters use or not.  I think the dangers of using it are pretty well documented, but fighting is a dangerous sport.  I think TRT is cheating, but if there are rules in place to let them use it, I mean what can you do.

I mean are they cracking down on it?  They seem to be more strenuously testing fighters that are using it.  They are taking away the bonuses to fighters who fail.  That seems fair and just to me.  Personally, I do not believe all the excuses that it's medicine and they have to take it and my doctor told me.  Recently, we've had several fighters who have had test levels over the allowed limits.  The UFC suspended Ben Rothwell despite the athletic commission giving him a verbal warning more or less.  Seems like a crackdown to me.  Ultimately, it might get to a point where fighters are not allowed to use this at all, and I think that should be where this goes eventually.

I am sure a lot of fighters are using banned substances and not getting caught.  Just like in other pro sports.  I want to give these guys the benefit of the doubt, but history proves otherwise.  Look no further than King Mo and his giant rant of it wasn't his fault because he didn't know the supplement he took was bad.  If you are an athlete, it is your responsibility to know what you are taking and putting into your body since it is one of your chief assets.   Pretty much every fighter that's failed a test diverts blame or has some sort of excuse.  So I don't want to be naive and believe and really take any fighter at their word.

  4. Lavar Johnson claimed ignorance to the TRT issue.  Said it was medically prescribed to him and he just didn't know and it was a mistake.

How can any fighter be so ignorant about numerous fighters who are having this issue?

My belief is that it's not ignorance, and the fighters have been abusing either steroids or TRT for years.  But the good news is that they are cracking down on it.

Brian Bowles swore on his mother's life he didn't know why his testosterone levels were so high.  Bullshit Bowles, you know.  Bowles was coming off a long layoff, he was snake-bitten with a ton of injuries.  He was on the gear to try and heal up and salvage his career.  It's plain as day.

  5. This is Bigfoot's second time pissing hot, right? Back in EliteXC if I remember right..

    http://mmajunkie.com/2013/05/usa-today-despite-life-threatening-condition-bigfoot-silva-eyes-ufc-title/

Silva’s condition has led to complications in his professional career. In 2008, in an apparent attempt to boost lagging testosterone levels caused by his condition, Silva and his team said, he ingested an over-the-counter supplement known as Novedex. He then tested positive for Boldenone, a banned substance usually used as a horse steroid.

  6. Has that ever happened before?  A draw turning to NC for one guy but the other guy who drew keeps the draw?

Just kind of shows how full of shit fighters and managers are I suppose.

“If we were going to give him a steroid, it wouldn’t be a horse steroid,” Davis says. “The truth is, he’s probably the only guy on the whole UFC roster who should actually be using testosterone-replacement therapy.”

Regardless of Bigfoot getting a TUE, as a fighter and athlete, it's your responsibility to make sure everything is on the level.  He has no one to blame but himself.

  7. Yeah, I think one of Tolkien's younger relatives was even disowned for doing a cameo in one of the LOTR movies.

I mean Smaug was awesome, but because they spread this plot so thin we had a really clunky third act.

I saw this one on high frame rate and I did like the experience a little better than the first one in the same format.  The mo-capped orcs look even better in HFR.  But some of the action and transitions just move a bit too quick.  Not sure if there is a way to fix or compensate for that.  Smaug certainly looked incredible in the format.  Loved the way he just filled up the screen.

  8.

The idea that the Team Alpha Male fighters don't "earn" their shots is a myth.

In Zuffa's WEC, Faber lost his belt to Mike Brown.  He had to face one guy to earn a rematch and that guy was JENS F'N PULVER, a dude he had already beat.  But, yeah, no favoritism there.

When Brown lost the belt to Aldo, Faber again only had to beat one guy to earn a title shot.  That guy was unranked Raphael Assuncao.

When Faber finally got to the UFC, he only had to face -- take a wild guess -- one guy to earn a UFC title shot against Dominick Cruz.  That was Eddie Wineland, a guy ranked no. 12 at the time.

Then, like I said earlier, Faber had to only fight one more guy (Brian Bowles, a legit dude who had been out a year and a half) to get a Interim Bantamweight title shot.

If you think beating one person (usually non-top 10) is earning a title shot, feel free to keep believing that.  The only surprising thing here is I actually believe Faber has earned a title shot now if they give it to him, having beaten four guys in a row.

Yeah, Faber was the former champion and defended the belt four times.  And guess who got the first shot at Mike Brown?  Leonard f'n Garcia.  His two wins?  Hiroyuki Takaya and...Jens Pulver.

Who else was a viable candidate than the former featherweight king and probably No. 2 guy in the world in the weight class at the time?  Aldo wasn't there yet at that point.

In the UFC, you are blatantly ignoring that Faber had already debuted at bantamweight in the WEC.  He submitted Takeya Mizugaki who had fought for the WEC bantamweight title in his first fight.  Wineland at the time was coming off four straight wins before their UFC fight.  So Faber had two wins at bantamweight before he fought Cruz in the UFC.  The reigning champion was a man Faber beat and submitted at a higher weight class.  So how was that not a viable fight?

Raphael Assuncao was in the top five featherweights when Faber defeated him.

Then, like I said earlier, Faber had to only fight one more guy (Brian Bowles, a legit dude who had been out a year and a half) to get a Interim Bantamweight title shot.

Wrong again.  He was out for one year after he lost the belt to Cruz.  So he was still arguably top 5 at that point.  Debuted in the UFC in March 2011, defeated Damacio Page.  Then he beat Takeya Mizugaki over the summer before fighting Faber in November.  He was out for over a year and a half after the Faber fight, lost to George Roop, and failed his drug test.

  9.

Benavidez smashed everyone except for DJ. He earned his shot.

I didn't say his second title shot wasn't earned.

You said his first one wasn't, which is BS.  That's how the tournament was designed.  This ignores that at the time Benavidez moved down, he was arguably in the top 3 or top 5 easily at bantamweight.  The only reason Johnson and McCall had to fight again is because a schmuck failed at math.  So either Johnson or McCall only needed one fight to get to the flyweight title as well.

As for Mendes, who else was a more viable contender at the time?  Rankings before that time were pretty diluted in general.  You can easily argue that his wins over Erik Koch, Cub Swanson, and Omigawa (at the time) were top 10 wins.  He was 6-0 in WEC and UFC going into the fight, so how did he not earn his shot?  He was easily more deserving than Kenny Florian.

The only other guys that have decent win streaks right now other than Faber at bantamweight are Takeya Mizugaki and Raphael Assuncao, both guys that Faber FINISHED.  When Faber moved down he submitted Mizugaki, a former WEC title contender and Eddie Wineland a former WEC bantamweight champion who debuted in the UFC going of a 4 fight winning streak in the WEC.

The idea that the Team Alpha Male fighters don't "earn" their shots is a myth.

Them being failures at title bouts, I mean blast away.  0-5 in UFC title bouts in just over two years is nothing to write home about.

  10.

UFC has removed GSP from their rankings but they only have 10 fighters listed instead of their usual 11(+1 including the champ), they just have Hendricks listed at #0 with all the other guys moving up 1 spot accoringly.  So more of less claiming that Hendricks is the uncrowned champ.

We all know the GSP news, but this seems quick and premature to outright remove him from the rankings. Fighting or not he still holds that rank, and who knows when (if) he'll come back. What happens if he shocks us all and returns "early."

I do not think he will return anytime soon, but this seems like a knee-jerk quick reaction.

He's taken an "indefinite" leave of absence.  He vacated the title.  Personally, I don't even think Nick Diaz should be ranked either, but he still is.

Once he finds his smile he if he comes back, you can start ranking him again.

  11. How much longer is Cena's body going to hold up when he's constantly taking these sickeningly spills like he did last night?

Like your top guy just came back from another "miraculous recovery" and you put him in another risky match.  Bumps and injuries are unavoidable in this business, but why unnecessarily increase the risk when you've shown time and time again how reliant you are of John Cena.

  12.

He got her picture frames and candles and stuff though.

Also, Nikki is dating Cena and starring in an E! reality show.  She's freaking set now.  She may be making "sacrifices" but it's exploded her career.

Yeah, but look at Mickie James' predicament of how dating Cena is a double-edged sword. He decides one day he doesn't want to be with her, and maybe it's too awkward to have her around, she's screwed.

That's basically why Chyna was driven out too. She did want more cash and made wacky demands, but it essentially boiled down to Triple H and Stephanie not wanting her around.

Yeah but I mean, they already cut the Bellas and they are back.  Mickie was also with another guy when she had an affair with John right?  Nikki at least is living with him and despite and she can ride out this Total Divas gravy train until whenever E! says it's run its course.  By that time she can probably retire from pro wrestling and then make bank on appearances at conventions or Wizard World or whatever.

Also Eva Marie's fiancee did come off like a major douche for meeting his future bride's parents in a hoodie with no shirt.  You don't have to wear a suit, but put a shirt on dude.  Also you have to ask for the blessing before you propose.  So don't ask for a blessing at that point, just announce it.

Now playing devil's advocate, producers probably set a lot of that up.

  13. I'd hardly call it a disaster.  I see it as a transitional period.

The Fox Sports 1 programming is great and all the shoulder programming is incredibly slick and well-produced.

People were bemoaning the Fox move on FX and Fuel TV.  Even though the ratings for the Fuel TV events were a lot lower, but still about triple the normal viewership the channel usually had and generally moving up.  The Hunt/Bigfoot fight night card also aired on a Friday.

Most of the fight cards have also generally been very good cards.

  14. Does this make Team Alpha Male the record holder for worst record in UFC title fights in all of MMA?  Because previously they were tied with Team Cesar Gracie at 0-4.

I feel bad for Benavidez.  I don't know where he can go from here.  Losing to Johnson the first time clearly crushed him, and this time he got starched.  He could always hope that Dodson or someone else wins the title which could fast track him again.  But with how Johnson has continued to improve and grow, I wouldn't count on that.
