  1. Red getting Parish and McHale along with larry.

Spurs tanking the year Robinson was hurt and then getting Duncan.

Penguins getting Sid in the lottery.

Penguins getting Mario Lemieux in 1984. The Pens had one foot in Hamilton before that.

  2. I suspect jonah keri's new book will show it's more complex than most people think.

It will be.  Jonah has been on the local Toronto radio a lot lately talking up the book.  You had a team that was middle to bottom of the pack in attendance with an owner so desparate to fight for revenue sharing he voted to cancel the season where his team was leading the league in wins.  Then throw in the 1995 referendum when Quebec nearly separated from Canada and the subsequent tailspin of the Canadian dollar to an alltime low sounded the ultimate death knell.  Montreal just didnt have a Rogers Communication to save them.  Christ the Montreal Canadiens couldnt find an owner in all of Quebec to buy them so an American had to.  By the time Loria got the team and he went shopping for radio rights.  Every station in town wanted Loria to pay them to put the games on the radio

  3. Owing money to a casino is legal. Owing six figures because of golf bets to multiple felons? Not so much.

And make no mistake about it - Jordan was told by Stern to go away. Jack McCallum in his book on the Dream Team says he was told by a LOT of insiders that Stern told Jordan to go away.

Then why would he let him back then if Stern was so insistant that Jordan go away.  Not like anything changed.

  4. Plus I would think the taxes would be lower in Georgia as opposed to Ontario. . .

Moot point since Toronto is roughly middle of the pack in that regard and while he is in Toronto he has an extra 10 cents on every dollar he makes.  He's playing for another deal next year so do you want to face the AL East in a park that you have given up 24 home runs in your previous 17 appearances playing for a team that probably wont contend or go to a team that made the playoffs last year in a much more pitcher friendly park

  5.

A couple more for the NBA -

What if LeBron's decision was to stay with the Cavs or sign with the Knicks?

What if Jordan didnt leave to try baseball?

What if Kobe and Shaq actually got along?

    A) No Ivring or Bennet on the Cavs cause just with Lebron there a playoff team.

    B) Either Bulls win 8 OR he misses a season or two because of a gambling scandal.

    C) Phil Jackson wins a noble peace prize

The so called gambling scandal is the biggest non story of all time.  Seeing the debts all these ballers have to casinos there seems to be lots of gambling scandals across the NBA

  6. Freidman is no great shakes.  Strombo got his start on the FAN didnt mind his take on sports.  At least Strombo is a good broadcaster and better him than jamming Cassie Campbell, Kevin Weekes and PJ Stock on the air for diversity.

  7. So George Stomboblopopopopopolus is taking over from Ron McLean on HNIC

McLean will still be there. They will probably slowly start phasing him out over the next few years

  8. In any other organization Snow would've been fired years ago, but with lunatic Wang he has a job for life. How can you be so incompetent that you are unable to win with Johnny Hockey?

Tavares isn't a pimple on the ass of Mario Lemieux who is probably the greatest offensive player in NHL history and Mario finished 5 of his first 6 seasons out of the playoffs back when 16 of 21 teams made it in

  9. Name another trade that killed a team and a city. I dare you.

Oh save the drama.  The fact they won one playoff series in their existence killed that team as fast as their shitty trades.  That and the fact that most of the hockey beat writers and a bunch of players considered Hartford the armpit of the NHL.  Punch Imlach and Harold Ballard tried their best to destroy hockey in Toronto in 1979 by dismantling a team that was close to being a contender.

  10. The trade that killed the Whalers, and is probably the worst deal in the history of pro sports in North America: Ron Francis (the greatest and most beloved player in team history), Ulf Sammuelson and Grant Jennings for John Cullen, Zarley Zalapski (one of the most useless players in NHL history. God did I hate him), and Jeff Parker (who promptly retired). The only 2 people on this planet that I hate more than Ed Johnson are Bettman and Karmanos.

Please not even the worst trade in the history of hockey let alone pro sports

  11. NHL owners giving up the couple hundred million in free publicity the Olympics gives them because no one is paying *them* would be the single most NHL thing ever.

Will never agree that the involvement in the Olympics and the advertising that goes along with it helps the NHL one bit.  But the players like it the fans seem to get excited.  If they could put a tournament together as good as the old Canada Cups were they would be a good replacement for the Olympics.

  12. Yeah I have heard too small to be a defensive end and not fast enough for linebacker.  Some teams are going to use this through their anonymous comments to try and drive him down so they can try to scoop him up late.  Going to be a crazy couple of months for the young man.  He has lived a super tough life so far this might seem like a cakewalk to him

  13. Or you draft him late because before all of this scouts said there are plenty of flaws in his game and now as the picks go by and he is not selected the narrative will be about homophobic football people.  Any way Arland Bruce III of whatever team he is on now sent him an offensive tweet.  Guess Arland wants to be cut by all the teams in the CFL
