I mean he is a solid coach on the low level of NCAA given his last 2 years.  now whether that translate to playing Arizona or UCLA and not Grambling is another issue

To me the bigger question is whether Deion really went to Jackson State to elevate HBCU or was it always about him.  I mean guess he wasn't SWAC after all

He gave half his pay back to the university. He got big business to invest and improve the facilities. He got Jackson State on TV. He increased game revenue. He is leaving the situation in a far better than what he inherited. Maybe he will inspire others to go that route. I think if he stuck it out for another year he could have got a better job offer. He did more in 3 years to elevate HBCU than anyone else did in the last 3 decades. You can only punish your family for so long by making them live in Mississippi

Dead serious question: is there any info out there on whether Deion can actually coach? Clearly he can recruit but how about actual coaching?

That's why you hire good assistants and coordinators.  Barry Switzer used to spend halftime of OU games calling recruits especially if they were laying a beating on someone.

The pandemic and Corgan wanting to own the NWA fans really destroyed this promotion, huh?

Not that Aldis's discount Flair was any good (hey, I just wanted Tim Storm to be champ again), but before the pandemic, they were so promising. They had set up an awesome Zicky Dice/Ricky Starks rivalry and had Pope and Kingston cutting such good promos that I was absolutely hyped for them to wrestle each other. Pope throwing obstacle after obstacle at Kingston before finally having to pay the price was the sort of simple-yet-compelling angle that I watched for.

Not so much Corgan wanting to own the fans but basically every name you mentioned that you liked got picked off by bigger promotions. Aldis got a nice contract but who knows what anyone else gets. Some have said $1000 a month. So Corgan is left with talent that is unemployable elsewhere. Thom Latimer probably moves into the Aldis position next since he has nothing else going for him. Corgan has said the NWA is at mid 90s ECW level now. I guess Tyrus is his Johnny Hotbody. 5 years into this and they only had half a small building full on Saturday. Sometime in 2023 Corgan will sell this thing to Tony Khan

  4. Didn't see the whole card but what I saw was brutal. Pretty Empowered were awful. EC3 is awful. Tyrus is awful. The Fixers are awful. The short matches were merciful. Velvet Sky needs to learn a few seconds of silence is okay on commentary. There was at least some charm when they were doing the old school deal because at least it was different. But now it's devolved into Corgan carting out these ugly old belts. A bunch of out of shape workers that get gassed in a minute. A bunch of people that are unemployable anywhere else. Corgan needs to mercy kill this since he doesn't have the capital to keep anyone around. Anyone interesting gets picked up by someone else. He's never getting this on TV. He was saying this week he doesn't have access to enough quality female performers to put on an all female card that lives up to NWA standards. That junk last night barely lived up to Backyard Wrestling standards

I can't lay all the blame on Willis for being bad, the Titans receivers suck just as bad.

No Willis is bad. Which is why it shouldn't have shocked anyone why he didn't go early like the mock drafts had him. Can he be coached up? Remains to be seen. People that study this more than me says he's the same guy he was at Liberty. Makes one read then runs if the guy isn't open. His receivers aren't great but you need to connect at a better clip than 33%.

  6. For October I saw Testament/Exodus/Death Angel on the 1st, Iron Maiden on the 11th.  Accept on the 17th.  The Bronx on the 20th and Fucked Up on the 28th and 29th

  7. Tony has passion which is needed desperately but he needs to start laying down the law. Doesnt need to be a dick but remind the talent they need to be on the same page to be successful since it's his money his rep. He needs to build a trusted team. Vince had Monsoon, Patterson a guy like Andre in the locker room. From the outside it looks like Tony does everything. And he needs to get the guys to tone down the Twitter the public outbursts like FTR calling him out knowing it would go online. Taz would call this a sloppy shop

What I don't get, what happened to all the unity and good feelings from two years ago?

I know there was the pandemic, so maybe there just wasn't time to build any animosity because wrestling companies were basically fighting to just stay on the air and continue putting on shows.

But it feels like something has changed. And the biggest changes in AEW in the last year:

    1. CM Punk arrives

    2. Cody Rhodes leaves

Well something pushed Cody to leave.  Be it the Bucks and Omega or whatever but he supposedly has signed some sort of NDA so he can't dish any dirt.  Then you have all kinds of stuff which is pretty obvious.  It's the stuff Cornette talks about all the time and most of it is true.  When this all started it was All Friends Wrestling.  Bunch of guys that were relatively tight with each other pushing the narrative that they were fighting the evil empire run by the out of touch billionaire and they were going to present something newer and better.  Fast forward the show is successful in it's way but they haven't been able to grow the product.  Tony fell into all the old traps every other promotion did.  Someone comes available sign them.  Do you have a place for them?  Doesn't mater he likes to Tweet how such and such is All Elite.  He has fallen in love with the super special surprise happening all the time.  Saraya gets a nice pop then you realize you are paying her a lot of money to maybe wrestle and to deliver stiff awkward promos.  But hey you got that one time pop.  The forbidden door stuff is great but you wonder how much discontent that brings up with the roster when they dont get booked on the big shows.  And the big thing is signing all the HHH loyal guys who never thought in a million years Vince would ever go away.  Now they have remorse.  Tony wants to be buddies with everyone but obviously the company structure is all wrong.  Tony hires all these people to fill these backstage roles but it sounds like they don't have much authourity. Dealing with wrestlers is like herding cats and Tony has let this get away from him. He is spinning too many plates.  He isn't stopping with the signings so he needs to release guys or find out who isn't happy and send them home and pay them out.    If you have even 10% of the roster unhappy that can drag down 100% of the product.

  9. Poor TK. I think he really wanted to set the internet on fire with a worked shoot at the presser but he underestimated what a pissed of CM Punk with a live microphone can do when he has some grievances. This will cost TK a bunch of money since I'm sure he had to back up the Brinks truck to get Punk out of retirement but he has to let him go and this may be a good time for AEW to reset. I have no doubt Punk told TK he wanted Cabana gone if he was going to come in. Tony should have sensed what was coming. He has been busy signing so much talent without thinking how everyone would coexist. He is getting proper chain of command together now is the time to cut bait with the talent who may be causing issues and try and break up these cliques that are rumoured backstage

  10. Corgan is a dolt. Anyone that gives Control Your Narrative any type of airtime on your biggest show of the year has no clue. But William Patrick is probably CYNs one fan. Other than that abomination Day 2 was passable at points. Aldis is always class.  Ricky Morton senior citizen is better than his kid.  Liked the Woman's tag title match surprisingly since I instantly hate anything Marti Belle is in. The lego was a nice touch. I guess Kamille is the NWA version of Super Cena. She would kick out at 2 and 3/4 after a shotgun blast to the chest

Its worth mentioning, even though it shouldn't matter as I'd hope the Bills would do the right thing once the investigation concludes, that the NFL/Bills can't suspend someone for an action they did during college. So the Bills of course can cut him but he can't be fined/suspended/banned. I am not clear on if he can still be put on the commissioner's list, since he'd still get paid on that.

I don't understand how something like this can be hidden from the NFL/teams that screened him as apparently the Bills just found out last month. I mean how is "being investigated for rape" not come up during the draft process. Admittedly, I am rather annoyed the Bills cut their other punter after knowing this as I'd rather he just not be around the team at all but instead he'll be playing tomorrow since he's their only punter.

Considering 2 punters were drafted before the "Punt God" teams did know what was up with him and Buffalo just didn't care. Oh and ask Terrelle Pryor if the NFL can suspend you for something you did in college

Sad to see Charlie Montoyo go in Toronto.

I'm not. He was a good guy to keep the team together when they were homeless during the pandemic and seemed like a nice guy but the teams body language has been horrible lately. Schneider always seemed to be the next guy. Think he would have got the job to start the year if they didn't win 91 games last year

Bench Coach John Schneider will be interim for the rest of the season

I didn't realize Schneider knew how to make all the pitchers healthy but here we are

Of course you could blame Charlie for overusing certain relief pitchers leading to their injuries. Even if you don't trust certain guys you can't keep rolling out Yimi Garcia 3 nights in a row

I have no idea what Passan is talking about with the losing the clubhouse stuff. Where did that come from?

There's been regression with a lot of the players this year. There is chatter there is too much of a hands off approach to the young guys and there is a lack of accountability. When Guerrero has 2 balls pass through the webbing of his glove in one half season why is he still using a shitty glove. Probably the same reason his ass is getting bigger. He only works out in the off season and no one is keeping on him. Charlie also has his little league approach to the lineup. Everyone gets a turn. Raimel Tapia is the 4th OF we shouldn't be seeing him every day when the other guys are healthy. No reason Bo Bichette still needs to throw the high heat all the time on routine ground balls. No need for guys to have weekly games off. Charlie was a good guy for a team with no expectations that was young with several Spanish speaking players. He is struggling this year and often has that confused look on his face
