  1. I gave MJF/Mistico a second look last night. And I'm apparently somewhere in the middle for my thoughts. My friend I was watching with said it was ass and easily one of AEW's worst matches all year, which seemed a bit harsh to me. Other folks were heaping praise saying it was one of the best things about the whole show. Which also seemed to be a bit much.

The only things I specifically hated were the finish, which they were backed into a corner on because aint no way Mistico was jobbing to anyone in AEW. And the Canadian Destroyer spot, which I always despise. I loved the MJF heat portion, he had the crowd going crazy and Mistico sold like he was dead. Then Mistico made the comeback and I started scratching my head. It was just Mistico doing his usual stuff, then he'd wait for MJF to get back up and then do another one. There was no urgency at all for what he was doing. For as much of a heat machine as MJF is, he's also great at selling and stooging around when the babyface is making his comeback, but the kind of stuff Mistico was doing didn't allow for it.

Without much heat the post match angle got, I was hopeful that they'd be keeping it going. But there was no sign of MJF at Fantastica Mania, no mention of him on Collision, and I haven't heard anything about him showing up at Coliseo last night. But, I would like to see them have another go around to see if they can clean things up because I think they have a classic inside of them.

They already did mistico v Jericho, right? Would seem like repeating the same formula.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case. The only difference so far is the company. Jericho/Mistico was a CMLL only deal and MJF/Mistico has so far been kept on AEW.

  3. MJF certainly got himself some heat Wednesday night. SRS is reporting that someone went after him at the hotel. He says he's OK, and he's proud that he got that kind of heat. I'm wondering if he shows back up tonight, and continues this deal with Mistico and they headline Anniversario.

Last night's trios main event ended in Sky Team beating Los Infernales in two straight falls, and challenging them for the trios titles, which happens next week. The general consensus seems to be that there's going to be new champions, but I'm wondering if Infernales retain and something happens between Averno and Mistico to set up the mask/hair match that they've both been alluding to wanting to have.

Well I totally whiffed on that prediction. 🙂 It's not a total loss though, because Averno defended the Light Heavyweight strap against Mistico in Guadlajara last Tuesday night and retained the title after a little assistance and a nutshot, so his record against Mistico improves to 2-199!

  6. When my wife's sister and her husband went back east for a week, I was on dog watching duty (basically letting them in and out and making sure they were good on water and food). So, she brought me back a sixer of Southern Tier Irish Cream Stout. Sadly, it's the first beer that I think I've ever had from STBC that I haven't thought very much of.

I take the car to my father in law, who pokes around with it a bit, and finds the problem in the tail light. He makes a couple of calls (he's Italian, so he knows people), and finds out exactly what causes that particular issue with that model of Nissan. And we order the part to replace, new shocks, and a new air filter for a grand total of $150. So 95% less than the dealership wanted. The cost for the taillight part itself? $56! And the real kicker is that when I was driving back, the HUD didn't have any problems at all with me making left turns.

Update: For $56 and about twenty minutes, about 17 of which was us taking apart the trunk in order to get to the tail light assembly to switch out the sensor, my tail light is in perfect working order. We also replaced the shocks which weren't "leaking fluid" as the dealship told us, they were just a little dirty. Moral of the story: Screw the dealership service people whenever possible, find someone who "knows people"

I don't post on this thread often but I wanted to tell my cautionary tale in case it helps someone else!

Quick summary: Three years ago while while moving I felt some pain in my side. The pain was pretty constant but would go away for days at a time so I figured I just tweaked something. Didn't go to the doctor. About a year and a half ago, still in that same pain I finally realized I likely had a hernia (still no doctor) but I was able to push it back in and the pain went away and I thought meh people live with hernias its fine. Six months ago the pain gets worse/daily.

After finally accepting my fate I made a call to my doctor and made an appointment but it wasn't for two months. Fine, I waited two months dealing with the pain with daily heating pad and occasional meds (I have erythema ab igne now from the heating pad usage). Then we had a big snow storm the day of that appointment, they cancelled and it was pushed back another two months for a new appointment. Pain. Lesson here: I should have just gone to Urgent Care as the hernia was obvious enough they also could have gotten me a referral to the surgeon.

Finally in March I got to the doctor, he was like 'yep that's a hernia', off to the surgeon in mid-March. Surgeon said 'yep that's a hernia', we set a date for surgery May 1st. Now this is my first ever surgery, I've never even had any broken bones or stitches, a very blessed life. Anyway, did the surgery on Thursday (mychart notes from the surgeon noted I had a "huge" hernia, thanks doc) and I am now recovering. I had it done the laparoscopy method, seemingly no unusual side effects, just the usual soreness and my incisions hurt a bit. He didn't give me any prescribed drugs so I'm just trucking along with Motrin, I assume it'll be fine. Follow-up is in ten days.

I say all this to say, I know now from talking to friends/family that hernia surgery is fairly common so if you do think you may have one don't be like Kevin and at least get a doctor to look at it. I could have/should have saved myself a couple years of pain, not all hernias do need immediate surgery but some do and that's something a doctor will help determine. And of course I ran the risk of it getting much worse and becoming an emergency, which could have led to serious complications. I'm on the mend now, all good, but just wanted to tell my story in case it helps someone else here down the road.

My dad had a hernia that he let get ridiculously out of control, to the point that doctors weren't sure that they could safely operate on him without losing him on the table. Before he passed, he'd been talking about how it had been long enough and he was ready to get it taken care of.......

  9. I had to verbally bitchslap both of my kids over my watching WrestleMania. The wife and I realized that WrestleMania night 2 fell on Easter Sunday, which is a bit inconvenient. But, not the end of the world. Dinner with the extended family is usually at our place anyway, and there's no reason that I can't put it on the TV and listen to it while we're eating dinner. And it's not like Easter is an all day thing. The family comes, the kids all get their various gifts, we have dinner and dessert, and then they leave since it's Sunday night and we all work Monday morning. So, as long as I'm with them for dinner, no fuss no muss. And yes, the wife even said this wasn't a problem.

Well first the younger kid, age 13, decides that she's going to make a stink about it, and that she's informing me that I will not be watching it that night. I tell her otherwise, and she decides that this is the hill to die on. Well, she's also wanting to go to one of her friends place on Friday and have a different friend over Saturday. So, I just repeated that, yes I will be watching and if she'd like to continue this conversation later, we can do it Friday while she's at home and again on Saturday while her friend isn't over. She looks at her mom to support and doesn't find it.

Then it's the older one's, age 15, idea to try to get involved. The wife and I are talking about what time it starts, how long it usually goes, etc. And she perks up and says "And Dad, you're not watching wrestling while people are here." I speak up and say "Yes I am, and whether I do or don't, it's really none of your business anyway." Once again, she looks at her mom and her mom just says "Yeah, that's true."

And after all their shit talking, we had a nice dinner together. I'd finished eating and was suitably full. I see my wife is holding my newborn nephew and not eating. I ask if she needs me to hold him so she can eat. Her reply: No, I'm fine. Go watch your wrestling."

  10. I was having some issues with the HUD in my Nissan whenever I had to make a left turn. I'm still within my extended warranty, so I take to to the dealership to see what's up. They have it for a good 6 and a half hours and first I get a call from the sales dept wanting to know if I'm interested in trading it in. I inform him that I'm not. Then I get another call from the service people informing that I actually have no warranty. I tell them that I called yesterday to verify that it was active and that I was told that it was, but this clown can't seem to find it. I dig out the paperwork with the warranty number, and that my deductable is zero, and voila, he found it in the computer. Then I finally get the call that I've been waiting for, the issue is in my tail light, and to fix that and other nagging things that need it (shocks, belt, and air filter) are going to set me back $3000, and none of it falls within my warranty. I tell them no thanks and how much just for the tail light? That's about $900. I decline again, and I'm only charged for the diagnostics.

I take the car to my father in law, who pokes around with it a bit, and finds the problem in the tail light. 11. What makes the WWE/AAA thing interesting to me is the fact that it's the first chance to possibly see the WWE actually acquire and run a separate promotion. They were fully planning on keeping WCW separate, until Viacom balked at airing WCW shows when they were paying for the WWF brand. So, we'll see if it's just business as usual with AAA, only with someone else footing the bills, or if it's just Mexcan version of NXT UK.

I will say, the possibility of sending American Made down there does excite me a little bit, because I can only imagine the amount of heat they can generate.

  12. It took me way too long, between the job, family, and other things taking precedence. But, I finally finished reading The Thursday Murder Club. Despite taking so long to finish, I actually really enjoyed it. There were lot of parts that had me cracking up. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the Netflix adapation turns out.

As much as i like guns, i was never into westerns too much, no strong hate, just strongly not into them even if i did watch the more important ones. And i dont watch shows either where the mafia or criminals are the main characters.

I do like Cowboys stuff in comics or video games. Dunno why, probably more vibrant is why.

Apparently one of our old county bigwigs got himself a job a little ways Northwest of us in Lincoln County. A couple of guys were talking about it and laughing, and one of them asks me if I've ever been there, my reply was "Everything I know about Lincoln County is from Young Guns and Young Guns II."  Which is actually why they were laughing, because it's apparently a poor as fuck area, and most of their money is from tourists who are into Billy the Kid lore.

  14. The family decided to splurge a little bit and get Wingstop for dinner. And Jesus Mary Joseph was it a shit show. We ordered from the app and were given a 16-21 minute window. The kiddo and I go to get it and the guy tells us it'll be about five more minutes. So we wait, and after close to 20 minutes our shit is ready. We get our cups and get our drinks from the fountain and head home. Lo and behold, I'm the only one of the four of us who actually got their complete order. The wife didn't get her tenders, the younger kiddo didn't get her boneless wings, and the older kiddo got plain tenders instead of the sauce she asked for. The wife calls to inform them of the errors, after three tries and getting disconnected each time, and the kid tells her to come on over and they'd get her the right stuff. Since I was the only one who actually got the whole correct meal, she said she'd go so that I could eat. Which is for the best, because I'd have probably been Jim Cornette at the DQ window if I had to go back.

  15. The only black marks on the card were the tag titles, which at least had the angle advancement with MJF, and the Jericho match. Am I exxagerating to say that Jericho slowly crawling over and pinning Bandido looked just as bad as HHH/Booker T from Mania 19? But everything else delivered. Megan Bayne is a made woman unless TK really fucks things up. I was loving Garcia's newfound aggression and I was hoping he'd jump Cole afterwards and turn the friendly rivalry into a real feud. And until the ref bump and usual BS, this was Moxley's best title defense since he won the strap.

  16. I've been MIA here for a couple of weeks now, the reason being that I lost my dad back on 3/20. I had to fly to Upstate New York and get his various affairs all settled. It's more or less been a secret for a few reasons. The family was keeping things quiet because of the woman he was legally married to (I refuse to call her his wife), everyone knew as soon as word got out she was going to be coming around with her hand out for whatever he had left to his name, and trying to play the pity card. I also kept hush about it to everyone except my employer (to explain my extended absense and request for bereavement time) because I knew if old friends found out I was going to be in NY, it'd turn into "Hey come over, let's hang out!" and as I put it to my Uncle, this wasn't a fucking social visit.

The moment on the trip that I think perfectly summed him up, was when I was going through boxes of his things and seeing what I wanted to keep, what anyone else may have wanted, or what was getting donated, I found a little notebook with what was clearly a very important set of notes. "Wed 8:00 AEW, Fri 10:00 AEW"

Mistico's subpar performance (still good enough because he's Mistico, but how long can that last?).

A friend of mine said that he didn't really get Mistico, with things like La Mistica being an armbar but he never works the arm. The comparison that I gave him was a late 2000's version of Masahiro Chono; he's the top guy who can pretty much get by on charisma, reputation, and a few familiar moves.

  18. My best friend in NY sent me a 4 pack this week, so far I've had two of them.

"Jalegreeno" - an IPA brewed with Jalepenos from Tree House Brewing, it's a really good IPA although I wish there was more pepper flavor to it. It's just a subtle hint of it on the back end.

"Citra Ice Cream Kooks Daydream" - an Oat Cream IPA, which I've never had before, from Other Half Brewing. The mouthfeel was a little offputting, but it was another good one. It's an 8.5% ABV, so I was feeling pretty good afterwards.

  19. The wife and I have been watching "The Pitt" on Max, it's more or less a spiritual successor to ER. It's a great show, but the concept of each episode only covers one hour of the shift, and the entire season is only one day, is a bit odd. If it continutes after Day 1, I'd hope to see something more traditional. And being on Max, you see a lot more action (if that's the right term) than you'll see on your other medical dramas on the Networks.

  21. I tweaked my back about a week ago, nothing too awful, just a little tightness. Well, then work decided to send me and a couple of other guys to a three day training class for some certifications. So, after 7-8 hours sitting at a desk in those plastic chairs, it was a lot closer to awful, even with a back pillow after the first day. But, in the good news department, all three of us made it through the class and got our certifications. Plus, our boss said he see about getting us raises for being certified.

  22. I watched the show live with a bunch of friends. We all lost our shit at the Hollywood Ending match. Then some of them went nuts for Omega/Takeshita while I was like "I don't see it." and then even more so at the steel cage match, and once again I was like "Really?" - so I just assumed that Toni/Mariah burned me out.  Last night, I fired it up again for a fresher perspective, and nothing much changed.
