It feels to me like AEW wants to thread a needle and have Juice taunt Max for being bullied for being Jewish without actually saying that he was bullied for being Jewish. That’s what it is.

Like — this is not an attempt at subtlety here. And who cares if Max signed off on it or not? It’s just so messed up to do anything even remotely close touching on anti-Semitism right now. Even under the best of circumstances MJF leaning into that stuff (real experiences or not) is walking a very dangerous line considering wrestlers don’t have the acting chops to pull of subtlety and wrestling fans live in a bubble.

Like… how is it even this far into a thread before anyone even pointed this out? Why go anywhere close to anything right now considering there are absolute horror stories and a massive war breaking out and who knows what lunatics are just waiting for any reason to spray up a synagogue (again) here?

It is so completely gross. Repulsive. TK does not get a pass for something like this because Bryan Danielson and Swerve had a really good match.

Be nice if you acknowledged other religions that are also suffering here rather than just making it about only one.

The entire main event was pretty anti-Christian.

  2. I'm guessing we get a massive schmoz with run ins and you end up with a ten man tag of Page/Danielson/Copeland/Yuta/Claudio against Swerve/Christian/Luchasaurus/Wayne/Brian Cage.

Edge/Christian brawl to the back, Wayne and Luchasaurus follow them, Sting turns up to get revenge for Darby. Swerve and Cage against the BCC with Hangman feeling conflicted about wanting to team with them after the past year..

  3. He's barely a semi-decent grade cricketer, gets a game in the BBL almost as a professional fielder and then does that. Good luck to him with the deals that'll land him.

Not exactly the most elite bowling group going around but he's just ruined them.

  4. Couldn't answer most of those as my WWE was the lowest I've watched in years, my going to local shows has not improved, and I've been watching a lot of older stuff instead of newer promotions, Japan or Mexico as I'd hoped.

My top 10 matches for the year to date:

    1) Drew vs Gunther vs Sheamus - WWE 02/04/23

    2) Adam Page vs Jon Moxley - AEW 05/03/23

    3) Bryan Danielson vs Ricky Starks AEW 03/09/23

    4) Tetsuya Naito vs Will Ospreay NJPW 12/08/2023

    5) Buddy Matthews vs Orange Cassidy AEW 12/04/23

    6) Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay NJPW 04/01/23

    7) Jon Moxley vs Orange Cassidy AEW 03/09/23

😎 Bryan Danielson/Jon Moxley vs Dante and Darius Martin AEW 06/01/23

9 ) Kenny Omega vs Will Ospreay AEW 25/06/23

    10) Konosuke Takeshita vs Bryan Danielson AEW 11/01/23

There you go, Paul. 4 Danielson matches, surely you can top that?

  5. Yeah, I think pre 1998, we got the one off Apter picture mags with some decent frequency (like $6 or $7) with really crappy pics of WWF guys from when they were in another promotion.

The official WWF mags or the PWI usually turned up every second month, and were just shy of $20 a pop. Given the newsagencies that had them always seemed to be well stocked pornographers it was probably in the same batch.

In hindsight, those newsagencies were really good to not enquire too much about what I was turning their store into a library with.

On the subject of wrestling shows falling on your birthday. My birthday is the 6th of March:

    • AEW Revolution 2021 was on my birthday weekend, 7th March at 1am. The 8th UK time.
    • AEW Revolution 2022 was the 6th March as I went to see The Batman with my Dad/Aje but it went out on the 7th UK time at 1am.
    • AEW Revolution 2023 is the 5th of March but will be on my actual birthday as it'll be the 6th UK time at 1am.
    • AEW Elevation and WWE RAW is the 6th of March USA time, the 7th over here.
    • The 51st Anniversary of NJPW will be on my birthday UK time.

Next year is a leap year so I'll get the flagship show, AEW Dynamite on the 6th US time, 7th here.

Got me curious so I went and had a look. Not a lot whatsoever. a Thunder taping from 1999 that had a main event of Bagwell and La Parka vs Rick Steiner and Lex Luger which sounds absurd and King of the Ring 1989. Slim pickings.

  7. My local had a copy of an ECW show with Sabu and Cactus Jack on the cover that I just assume explained where Headshrinker Samu went to.

And a WCW Bash At The Beach 94 tape that made no sense to me contextually as there was no WCW coverage in Australia and assumed it was one in the same as the Jim Barnett 70s era promotion that my uncle used to watch, and somehow I'd totally missed Hulk Hogan working PPVs locally for the past few months.

Oh and WM IV was cut into two tapes, and almost every store only ever had the second half.

I remember going on holiday when I was about 8 to Brisbane and the video shop next door to the hotel having literally every wrestling tape ever and ruining our holiday because I just wanted to stay in the room and watch them all instead.

  8. I like that the Hart/Piper callback finish made sense on two levels, both the Mania 8 callback, but also that Austin was "taught" the Million Dollar Dream by Dibiase. It's entirely feasible that this sequence of events occurs, compared to other matches Bret has had with wacky finishes that have come out of nowhere (Bigelow KOTR 93/Bulldog IYH)

7 on mine got the Cash treatment.

SEEMS LIKE A GOOD TIME TO QUOTE YOU THEN.

Anyway, I remember you told me to rewatch Austin/Bret from Mania a few months back. I did, and then my daughter destroyed two laptops of mine in five minutes, so I completely forgot about it. Just got it back this week, and saw my notes.

I liked it a lot more than I remembered. I was well inclined to rewatch just to shit on it in greater detail, because the 2-3 times I watched it as a teenager just remembering being completely bored by the punch/kick.

I mean, I'll maintain that Survivor Series 96 was the far better match, and we sleep on the great story being told, and the little stories within that story. But I'll acquiesce to the concept that this was the more hateful conclusion that was needed and duly delivered.

  10. Wardlow looked like shit. Like Brayden Walker levels. Those powerbombs looked ridiculously unsafe. If you're making your big return, those that are practically blackfacing with the spray tan are probably going to make you look really pale by comparison.

As much as I suspect the timing means he's involved with the whole ninja thing, I'd have preferred if him and Hobbs swapped roles, assuming Hobbs is just going to be the guy taking all the pins against Jericho/Omega.

  11. Firstly - it's like the second time in a week some fucking moron has made a dumbshit remark about drugs in a really unsupportive context, and its pretty annoying.

    Re the PPV:

    - I really liked the six man, everyone played their part, but wow did I see why Vince hated Jericho/Owens. Feels like its not the first time where Jericho as a face against a hated rival decides to get his shit in instead, at least at the start anyway. That Guevara SSP to the outside is a ridiculous spot that never fails to get a reaction out of me.

    - Mox on commentary was funny as fuck. Plenty of times where AEW has ruined shows with awful commentary, this might have been a rare opposite in certain parts of the show.

    - Really enjoyed Swerve/Page and the crowd reactions for Swerve. Silly finish, but if it means we get more of it, pretty happy.

    - Just do not care at all about FTR as faces, and I think we continue to sleep on how bad the AEW tag division is. The top rope shatter machine finish was superb, everything else feels very repetitive, and I do not want another FTR/Bucks match. Ideally, I'd be putting the belts on Guevara/Takeshita, do the Bucks match, and then do another six man with Omega when Ospreay is available.

    - Someone else already pointed out the ridiculously illogical Edge debut. I hope Nick Wayne's gear gets sorted out post-heel turn, his ring gear/his tron video/his entrance music all clash and they look ridiculous....but yet very on brand for someone his age. I don't like that amongst all this, Darby feels very Booker T in the Nash/HBK/Booker vs HHH/Flair/Jericho set up here. Edge spent all this time doing the contextually unnecessary "will he won't he shake his hand" deal with Sting and barely acknowledges Darby. I just hope this is a sprint of a three month run, not sure how you get a final E&C vs Hardys match out of it, but I really don't want Edge in 2023.

  12. He comes in as this awful heel commentator, and clearly at some point, Vince has enough of him, but there's enough internal support to keep his job, so his entire thing becomes "horny for Shawn Michaels" and sent to his own little universe doing the prerecorded segments that Todd Pettengill decided he was above.
