  1. A bit more:  It's because Parsons is technically still on their books right now (at his cap hold number, not the offer sheet number) and thus he is still officially their free agent so they have Bird Rights on him.

If they were to renounce his cap hold (which they won't) they could no longer match the offer.

  2.

I'm still curious where the Rockets think they are getting that kind of money.

Resigning your guy does not effect the cap. It just puts you in luxury tax hell.

I always thought that was just on an extension though.

Nope.  They can sign up to the salary cap and still match the offer.  But they have to get Bosh signed before they match on Parsons, hence the time limit thing being a pretty serious issue.

Of course, if Bosh signs today, they can fuck with Dallas by waiting until the last possible second to match, since Dallas can't spend that money until Houston officially matches the offer sheet.  And Dallas could then miss out on their own plan B or what have you.

  3. If this deal is for less then 4 contract years, meaning no opt outs till after year 4. then that needs to be addressed in the next CBA

As a guess, I assume it's the quickly becoming normal 4 year deal with a player option after year 3.

  4. So now can Houston get Lin dumped (presumably on Philly for some reason) and Bosh signed before the Parsons deadline to match.

And, if not...  Do they give up on Bosh or do they let Parsons go for free?

  5. So, now, just for a moment, imagine that Chicago gets Melo, Cleveland pulls off a trade for Love, and Lance returns to Indy and the Pacers rediscover the team they had the first half of last season.

That is one loaded division potentially.

  6. Duncan did seriously consider Orlando that year, before deciding to return to SA (or, more exact, before deciding not to use the threat of signing a free agent max with Chicago as leverage to force a sign and trade to Orlando for the re-signing max level.  Which is what McGrady and Hill did, the latter being my all-time favorite trade in NBA history.)
