  1. I know that YT links are traditionally frowned upon in the omnibus, but I need to share this Kevin Nash shoot. It's from 2012, but I don't think I've ever seen it mentioned here, and this is the first I'm seeing it.

The interviewer here is pretty comical for a couple reasons. But holy shit, the balls on that guy. Just really going nuts with the steroid stuff towards the middle-to-end.

  2. I asked this in the omnibus thread, and was told the puro forum would be the place for it:

Does anyone have some good FMW match recommendations? I know I'm like 15 years late to the party on this one. I spoke with Dusty Finish and he said the mid-90s were the highlight, so I've been looking up a lot of that stuff on YouTube. I've also been easing myself in by watching stuff from names I know: Hayabusa, Terry Funk, Mr. Pogo, Tanaka, Awesome, etc.

  3. Ask about FMW in the puro forum.  Bahu will hook you up.

In general, I enjoyed mid-90's FMW quite a bit.  Before the mid-90's, it tends to be all Onita, All the Time working the deatmatches against guys like Mr. Pogo.  Not much workrate there.  In the mid-90's, it starts to open up a bit and you get things like the Funk Masters of Wrestling (heel group led by Terry Funk).  Then the focus starts to shift to Hayabusa more, you get things like the awesome (and seemingly never-ending) Hayabusa-Gannosuke feud, Masata Tanaka rises up the card, etc.

Late 90's, you hit the Onita heel turn (complete with Bret Hart tribute tights), The rise of Gannosuke as a top heel, and finally Team No Respect.  No Respect might be my favorite heel faction not the 80's Four Horsemen,

After Team No Respect, the promotion turned fully towards sports entertainment and gleefully rocketed itself into oblivion, so the last few years are fairly skippable.

Awesome. I just checked and I think there might even be a thread for it aready. Thanks a lot

  4. Whatever happened to Horace anyway?  He was so great in FMW, with his constant stream of profanity.

According to Wiki and Cagematch he hasn't had a match since 2002, apparently some dark matches for WWE. I never even knew that he had a developmental deal after WCW closed, to be honest. If I did, I forgot.

After reading your post, I watched Horace/Awesome/Oya vs. Headhunters and Leatherface from FMW. I really enjoyed the match, though I don't know that it isn't only because I've really only had time to watch current WWE lately. It was a brawl around the stadium, full of fat guys and weapons shots, so it might have been nice just to see something different for the first time in a while (full disclosure: I watched Impact two weeks ago from Scotland since I happned to be home on a Thursday night).

Anyway, it made me realize that I really have not watched enough nor do I have enough knowledge about FMW. Especially for someone who enjoys that style of match. Any recommendations/essential viewing?

  5. A few thoughts on this show from a lapsed TNA viewer:

    • I really like the design of their new World title belt. The new X-Division belt looks like butt, though.
    • Rockstar Spud is one of the best things on the show. He's like a Brad Maddox but with a weird, English, Seacrest-y kinda vibe happening.
    • Without the dye-job, Mr. Kennedy looks scarily like Brett Favre. I fuckin hate Favre, but I'm willing to bet he could've thrown better punches.
    • Bubba, however, is still the man.
    • How disappointed are the Wolves gonna be when they see the houses TNA draws in the States?
  6. I knew a girl in college who had "Hit like a champ" with two boxing gloves tattooed about half an inch above her vag, and wasn't shy about showing it off.

Did she end up in adult films by any chance?

  7. At first glance, I'm amped. $60 is not a bad price point at all, especially with the PPV considerations. But I really, really hope that eventually there's an expansion where I can get my fix of territory stuff, MSG shows, WCWSN, Worldwide, ECW TV, SNME, Shotgun/Superstars/other syndicated shows, etc.

But still, already a butt ton better than Classics on Demand.

  8.

Dear Lord, man. Unholy Alliance viginettes were the funniest thing ever on ECW shows.

I still cannot find the one where Tajiri mists Elektra in the eyes for slapping him after a failed attempt by the Sinister Minister to get Mikey Whipwreck laid.

The Unholy Alliance would have been a highlight of ECW at any point, not just the end. It seemed like such a weird combination, but it worked.

This may sound strange, but I always thought that Kanyon would have made a great addition to that stable. At first they could play off of Vandenberg managing him as Mortis in WCW, but then work up to the awesome comedy stuff.

  9.

Douglas vs. Arn would have probably been great.

They wrestled for the TV Title in 1990 and it was great. He actually was in JCP briefly after the UWF buyout. But they did not do much with him, like most of the UWF roster. I'm wondering if any UWF guy was better off post buy out. Even Doc was never used well, until he joined the Varsity Club in late 1988.

My knee-jerk reaction is to say Rick Steiner, but I guess he might fall into the same category of not being used well for a period.

As far as the Douglas thing, I was thinking way, way earlier than 1990, but I'm still going to check that Arn match out. Thanks for the tip on that

  10. This might seem sort of crazy to some, but I could see Shane Douglas working out well in JCP. Douglas vs. Arn would have probably been great.

Conversely, I also often think about what it would have been like if Flair somehow ended up in Funk's role in ECW. I was actually thinking about it the other day because his WWECW match with Show had come up here in another thread. He would have probably come in as a heel because of his association with WCW (unless he spent his first promo trash talking them, or a heel Cactus Jack makes him a de facto face). I mention Foley there because it would've been a built in feud with with him and others over their supposed treatment in WCW when Flair was booker (which is something that would've of course only worked in ECW at that time). Flair also had some good matches Eddy in WCW-- imagine how cool it would've been if they took place at the arena

  11. Posted Image

Picture from TNA's TV taping tonight. Yes, we are now at the point you can literally start counting the attendance.

I love goofing on TNA and their pure, unbridled ineptitude just as much as the next guy. But that's bad.. really fuckin bad. Just for comparison purposes, here's a highlight video from WCW Greed, a week before they got bought out:

You'd need a swimming pool to wring out Dixie's panties if TNA could draw like that at this point.

  12. Rating was a 2.7.

It's a shame Bryan hasn't taken off as a top guy but, similar to Punk, someone being over huge with the hardcore base doesn't guarantee they'll appeal to a casual audience.

The mythical "casual audience" is watching football.

  13. What's everyone's best Big Show match? Don't think there's many better than the Lesnar match at the Rumble. Guy bumps huge for Brock and they get a ton of shit in in such a short time.

I forget what show it was, but he had a good stretcher match against Lesnar in like 03 or 04. Their SummerSlam match was good too. Then of course there was the SD match where they broke the ring. I always thought they had great chemistry. There was a triple threat with Angle in there somewhere that was awesome too.

I also like most of his matches with Taker as well, especially the No Mercy 09 match.

Also, don't forget the WWECW run. The Flair hardcore match wasn't a classic, but surreal and unbelievably entertaining. I'm sure there's a bunch more in there, but I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I'm probably in the minority on this, but I thought the Boiler Room Brawl with Foley was just as good if not better than the first with Taker.

  14.

"Suck on this 1.2 rating, Vince!"

"More people may watch WWE, but then again, more people like Myley Cyrus than Emmylou Harris. These men are by gawd ath-a-letes, not sports entertainers!" If it's so wrong to wanna see angry, bitter J.R. treat Impact like a two-hour YouShoot against Vince and the WWE, I don't wanna be right.

Only if this is how he debuts:

Who would be Dr. Death's replacement in TNA?

How did they do that? I remember them bringing lumber, cicular saws, and hammers out during one segment. They then unveiled the completed table in the next segment. This was all done in about 10, or 15 minutes.

This makes me want to see a Secrets of Carpentry EXPOSED! special with Mike Holmes in the Harley role

  15. I missed Raw but read about the Cesaro big swing in the Raw thread while I was at work today. Words do not do it justice. This was one of the first times in recent memory that the WWE crowd has been completely justified in chanting holy shit.

I think, to refer to the discussion awhile back, that WWE has the talent for a brand split, but for whatever reason, they have almost no interest in booking the midcard in a fashion other than having really awesome guys that the crowd wants to get behind trade wins for months on end until no one cares about them.

I think that the talent is there to sustain one main event feud, a tag team feud or two, and three or four midcard feuds per show. Given the chance, I think the crowd would get behind a lot of guys that aren't getting steady enough pushes right now.

I agree with you on the way that the midcard is currently booked, so I liked your post for that reason, but I'm not sure they could have three to four midcard feuds per show.

If they were to hypothetically do a brand split again, even if only for house show purposes, I think they would need to do the following to even out the rosters a bit:

    • Bring up Ohno, PAC, Zayn, maybe Mason Ryan and whoever else in NXT who may be ready-ish
    • Pepper in some vets who can still go like Regal, Dustin, or the New Age Outlaws.
    • Bring in former undercard guys or whatever remaining indy "names" that aren't signed anywhere: London & Kendrick, Shelton Benjamin, MVP, Rhyno, Low Ki, Carlito, Chris Masters, Trevor Murdoch, Harry Smith, Jay Lethal, Alex Shelley.. dudes like that
    • Start rolling the dice on the likes of Tatsu, 3MB, Ryder. Even if they're being jobbed the fuck out, at least they're on TV and they're being given a story.

Some days, I wish the brand split was still in effect because it gave more purpose to the WHC and the US titles, and more time to the women and tag teams. Then others, I think its a hare brained, silly ass idea, that had no right to even exist as long as it did.
