Arkansas hurler Gage Wood sends Murray State home with just the third no-hitter in CWS history and the first since 1960 (Jim Wixson, Oklahoma State). 19 Ks for good measure - just a performance for the ages.

Watching Major League Cricket and on one hand, it is VERY bizarre seeing cricket at Oakland Coliseum. OTOH, the layout actually works - squint and it looks sorta like a scaled-down MCG. One hopes they name the stadium ends after famed Oakland bowlers Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter.

Watching Legado del Fantasma vs Pagano/Wagner/Psycho, everyone in that match looks like a superstar. LdF are dressed like an awesome 90s touring Mexican trios act and the AAA guys brought the sartorial A-game, but Pagano gets my gold star for coming out in a motherfucking ZOOT SUIT while a borderline race riot is going on halfway across LA. He couldn't possibly have planned this any better, the stars were in perfect alignment.

It really took Lince almost dying in the ring in that hair vs mask match against Mitch Ryder before the Chikara fans showed him decent respect
I was there live - Lince's mom staggering out from backstage wailing that her son was dead as Larry Sweeney (bless his soul) tried to calm her down will haunt me to my grave.

Columbia pulled a shocker and beat Miss St in the opener. (And then got crushed by Miami 14-1, and Miss St 8-1)
Oh well. Miami vs. Mississippi State for the right to go to Omaha tonight.
Southern Mississippi, not that it matters anymore.
Canes beat USM 5-4 and advance to play at Louisville in the super regional.

Hattiesburg plays host to the Dolfan Invitational as Miami and Columbia clash in the winners bracket!

Up the Addicks! Under almost any other circumstances I would've rooted for Leyton Orient to go up since they haven't been in the second tier since 1982(!), but I've had a soft spot for Charlton going back to the 80s when my camp counselor was a supporter of theirs and acted as sort of a gateway for me into more proper (read: European) footy.
(Things could've been different. The arts and crafts counselor was a Rag and actually painted a huge United badge on the storage room wall. :D)

UnbeFUCKINGlievable finish to the Championship playoff. Tom Watson never has to buy a drink in Wearside ever again.

It’s still so early in each conference final that I’m not close to counting the Knicks or Timberwolves out, but if we do get Pacers and OKC then I wonder what that series even looks like

NWA champs were all heels (IMO even Thesz) and WWWF champs were all faces (except in transition) is something else. WWWF's champs were also (gasp) "ethnic" which... yeah, not in the NWA. Sheik even broke from them, and was of course, a northern territory-only guy after awhile.
I was under the impression NWA champs were never out-and-out heels until Terry won the belt. Thesz, Brisco, Dory etc worked subtle heel... maybe leaving holds on a bit longer than usual, working the refs etc. Gene Kiniski would probably be the only touring NWA champ who was more outright heelish, then once Terry won the dynamic began to morph permanently.

Over in the softball tournament, Texas A&M just made the bad kind of history after getting dumped by Liberty. First national #1 not to make the super regionals since the current seeding format began in 2005.

Time for the wacky schedule releases. I assume this one was completely made using RollerCoaster Tycoon.
The Chiefsaholic joke was top-shelf.
Meanwhile, I can't post Twitter links because all of my browsers hate the board... but the Eagles reveal is some restaurant quality salt. https://x.com/Eagles/status/1922805884150772160

Meanwhile in Holland, Ajax are on the verge of a nuclear title catastrophe. Just over a month ago they enjoyed a nine-point lead on PSV in the Eredivisie, but since then they've gone winless in their last four matches while PSV have won six straight on the bounce. Destiny is in the Rood-witten's hands: win at Sparta Rotterdam and the title is theirs. OTOH Ajax need to beat Twente and hope PSV drop points.

The thing is, that's considered a win in Mexico. The US is the only country where DQs have that "screwjob" stigma - everywhere else it's an acceptable finish, to the point where titles can even change hands on one.
