John Nord wrestling the Barbarian in Nord's first Nitro match feels like a bit of an Easter egg reference for a certain group of fans. There's also a Barbarian/Berzerker matchup that aired on Prime Time Wrestling in 1991.
Of course this being John Nord, he shows up for a few months, and then retires. Didn't even have the in-ring injury before leaving like Rick Martel did.
If I remember correctly, that's Nord's ONLY Nitro match.

Looked at AEW Instagram and maybe these were announced on Collision (haven’t watched it yet) but Philly will get Shida-Ruby Soho for the title. Hoping for a title change. Also Hook and RVD will tag against Silver and Reynolds.
Shida/Soho was announced on Collision but not the opponents for RVD/Hook, we were just told IN ACTION!
That should be a fun tag match, Silver/Hook is the matchup I'm most excited to see out of all combinations.

Which one? There were two. Rhodes to the Top and then All Access.
My wife loved both. So there is an audience for those.

I think squashes are also fine if they effectively do what they need to do for a guy. I also think a lost art is those mid-level type squashes, where it's basically a jobber, but like a few more minutes and the jobber gets some offense in. This is like how they would let top heels get some clean wins on TV while giving them lesser names.
The mid-level squashes are great ways to get a lower-tier tag team member some singles time.

Skye/Stat was really good, easily Skye's best match to date. Stat doesn't get enough credit as a workhorse, she routinely gets the most out of everyone she works with. Even though, Skye is teasing a heel turn, this was her best fighting spirit performance where it looked like she had winning chances. She brought the heat, but Stat always had an answer for her. Reminded me of Jungle Boy's first crack at Kenny Omega.
It was crazy to me that this was the first interaction of Stat and Skye. They really built up to it with both of them being with AEW for years now and while I was very confident that Stat would walk away with the win, all the talk of her dominance gave me some worry especially with how Skye's been on the ball too now. Stat's definitely got the rust shaken off from her injury and is back in full ring general mode.

Christian Cage vs. Bryan Danielson was even better on a second viewing. The fans helping the face, Danielson get up. The "Fuck you, Christian" chants. Nigel McGuinness or Ian Riccaboni is the best commentator in wrestling, leaning towards my fellow Brit. Didn't expect the match to go over 20 minutes, 25:13 according to CageMatch. Might be the longest TNT Championship match ever. My favourite spot was Danielson's running knee countered by a spear followed by the Killswitch for a near fall. Great match.
Per Cagematch, the Christian/Darby 2/3 Falls match was 25:17, a mere 4 seconds more than the Danielson match. Regardless, Danielson/Christian did some damn fine work out there.

While I'm throwing out ideas, I'm only through the six-man so far but I think they should (for the short/medium term before a turn) put Garcia with Swerve so he can dance with Nana leading to a face turn when he gets too over.
Now you got me picturing a time travelling match between Garcia and Jimmy Rave and how that would've ruled the motherfuckin' world.

2000 ECW is the sort of thing that is both very familiar to the sort of wrestling match structure that we've seen a lot of in the last few decades. Some of that probably involved this era of ECW trying to what the Northeast Indies did a few years later and those indy guys getting into the WWE/etc and working matches like that on big stages.
Of course one difference is that ECW had way more tables spots than all the places that were doing the "oh my god, how did he kick out at 2 from this death move" style. Also most places have figured out in the last 25 years that concussions are bad so don't hit dudes directly in the head with chairs.
I've heard that if ECW had managed to stick around for a little longer, they're the place that employs the sort of guys that ended up founding Ring of Honor. I've also heard that despite the whole "going out of business within a year" thing, 2000 ECW had better talent than they had a few years earlier.
But yeah, Hardcore TV had a 2 minute long intro. It was like a 70/80s sitcom theme song where they have to cut the intro down to air it in syndication. But hey, you gotta fill out that hour of TV somehow.
2000 ECW to me is a much more exciting product to watch than any of the previous years before it (98/99). There's an energy there I can't explain.

I for one think Tony Khan should just be a rampant mad man online for perpetuity but I'm in the minority there. If he's booking the wrestling I want to watch, then he can do whatever.

I wouldn't mind seeing AEW eventually revisit the Lince/Metallik team from the 205 Live days. They could probably have some real crazy matches with Kommander/Vikingo, the Bucks, Lucha Bros, and a million others.
Lince/Metallik vs Tony Nese/Ari Daivari is more than enough for me.

Per the FITE app, Rampage will be:
Daddy Magic, Cool Hand Ang, Jake Hager & Daniel Garcia take on The Hardys & Best Friends in an 8-Man Tag match. Kris Statlander & Hikaru Shida face off Nyla Rose & Marina Shafir.
Johnny TV vs Komander vs Lince Dorado vs Penta El Zero Miedo in a Winner gets a shot at the ROH World Championship match.
Not a bad birthday present from AEW to ole Gordlow (literally old. I am turning 58 tomorrow). It's been a pretty darn good birthday week thus far. Participated in a sake tasting event on Tuesday, serving (and describing and explaining) 4 delicious and rare local sakes to the 1000 participants of the United Nations PRI conference; then my wife and daughters took me out for a steak dinner on Wednesday (because the girls are busy with ballet tomorrow evening, (though there will be time for cake afterward); Thursday was a really enjoyable Dynamite plus I had time for an epic workout; Today I had a drinking lesson with some of my long time private students and got some really excellent sake and umeshu as well as pickled baby corn (!) and a full set of the gold (rich taste) Cup Noodles among my gifts; plus we ate a ton of yakitori. Then tomorrow Rampage, a COVID booster (my doctor thinks it's funny to give it to me as a bday present) (I kind of agree) and (presumably) delicious cake. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze in a quick workout also, if the vaccination doesn't take too much outa me.
Only kinda sad thing is that my old friend Seth/Salty the Seaman was in town working for Cooger while I was away at the sake event, so I missed the karaoke party. On the other hand, I got a free ride on the "bullet train."
I think this is Lince's AEW debut! Anyone know for sure? He's yet another Chikara guy (like Mad King and Orange/Fire Ant) that came over here to do a tour with Osaka Pro back in the early 2010s. I'm stoked to see him and also stoked for Rampage being a little bit random and weird and WAR-ish (which I personally LOVE) on my actual birthday. Hooray!
Also the birthday umeshu is just unbelievably good. Made in my wife's home prefecture of Wakayama, which is famous for plums. Also my wife bought our girls a Chihuahua puppy and he is a VERY good boy and I suspect my daughters will give me a little present "from" the dog and if so I will most likely be delighted.
Happy Birthday Gordlow!
And to answer your question about Lince, yes this is his AEW debut! And if he wins and the match takes place on a ROH branded show, it'll be his debut there too.

Maybe I'm letting my imagination run away but my immediate thought when Callis and Nana were conspiring is that Hangman vs Swerve is going to be a double turn. Hangman joins Callis because he resents Omega already forgetting about him to team with Ibushi and Jericho; Callis scores a huge emotional gain over Omega by having one of his closest allies/most experienced rivals join his Family,; Nana sacrifices Swerve to the Callis Family because they offer him a bribe and he's all about the money; Swerve and Hangman both get fresh coats of paint and Swerve can lose in Seattle because it will make everyone want to see him get his revenge (plus now that they've confirm Darby is main eventing they can send everyone home happy when he beats Christian).
Bonus: New member rotated into The Embassy with that idea (hopefully).

This match between B. Brian Blair and Dr. D David Schultz wouldn't be out of place twenty years later I felt, real scientific. Also the fans get insane over the ending of this, wouldn't expect this from 1984 WWF. Wish we got another 4-6 minutes of it.

Where the fuck is Marq Quen? It can't possibly still be injured, is he?
Santana and Scorpio Sky were out for a year plus, totally possible Quen could be too (last match was November 2022)

Oh, thank fuck. I got the invite last week and got into Bluesky (need to see about what invites I have to give) But while it beats the tar out of Twitter I've been thinking "It's nice, but now what?" So thank goodness for this.
There's a pro wrestling feed as well if you search feeds, it'll take a hashtag with the promotion to show up, but technology these days will let you put an emoji (any of the ) emojis in a post and it'll show on the feed!

Jarrett and the Brothers Armstrong against a couple of midcard faces at the 95 Survivor Series would be one of those overlooked matches of the era that's fondly remembered by enthusiasts.
Let me tell you Sparky Plugg vs Brad Amrstrong would be an Action Zone gem

“Has anyone gotten as good as quickly as Ricky Starks?” Question posed by JR on commentary. To which I ask why is it impressive that he’s “finally” good? After eleven years he should be. If he sucked after that long he should retire.
But just for fun let’s see what other wrestlers have started from the year he did and that didn’t need over a decade to “get good”:
Charlotte Flair
Chad Gable
Moose
Tessa Blanchard
Matt Riddle
Ronda Rousey
Dominik Mysterio
Bron Breaker
Logan Paul (who’s miles ahead of Starks in every category)
Pat McAfee
Dragon Lee
Jack Perry
Will Ospreay
Ilja Dragunov
Jay White (who like Logan Paul is miles ahead of Starks)
Montez Ford
Carmelo Hayes
MJF
Darby Allin
Wheeler Yuta
Grayson Waller
Tiffany Stratton
Most of that list I’d take over the Michael Jackson wannabe in a heart beat, and I didn’t include both members of the Acclaimed.
In the interest of fairness if I were starting a promotion here’s the names from that list I’d take over Adam Cole:
Charlotte
Chad Gable
Bron Breaker
Dominik Mysterio
Logan Paul
Dragon Lee
Will Ospreay
Ilja Dragunov
Jay White
Montez Ford
Carmelo Hayes
MJF
Darby
Grayson Waller
Tiffany Stratton
Settle down LF.

Assuming there's isn't a no compete, I'm expecting a Bro-fest by tomorrow evening over in A E Dub.
I'd be incredibly unhappy if he showed up at a show I was going to be at (so hyped for Collision tomorrow), or with them in general. Hopefully he fades away from the sport.

If Shelton wants to do it, he would be great for AEW in terms of being the "adult in the room". Of all the releases now, Ali seems like a no brainer for AEW. Given how weak Collison is now in star power, using Ziggler would be an interesting idea
I for one would welcome Dolph Ziggler for fighting on Saturday nights

I tracked down most of his C Show matches, he's surprisingly fun. There's even a match against Road Block.
