So this is the day OC's reign ends. I'll at least be surprised if he wins. It's been a hell of a run and maybe the most underrated title run in AEW's history.

I think OC is going to pull it off here and survive before Double or Nothing where both the Trios title and IC title are at play with a Best Friends/House of Black rematch.

    Get it, Double or Nothing?

There's never been a serious title change unless you count Sammy vs. Dustin for the interim TNT title, which happened because Cody was sick and unable to wrestle that night. So they made Sammy vs. Dustin for the interim belt as a replacement and had Sammy vs. Cody unify the titles with that Dynamite ladder match.

There was the Sammy vs Sky TNT title change on BOTB II but that's it since then.

  3. With her third TBS title defense and victory, Jade's got the most successful defenses in Battle of The Belts history, retaining at the last three shows. I thought Starkz did a solid job for her TV debut. In addition, I'm not excited to have more Brian Cage, it is softened by the fact that Swerve now has The Embassy with him, which also means a spotlight on Prince Nana who has been one of my favorite managers since my first ROH show in 05. Orange had a very strong match that I again truly didn't know if he'd pick up the win on but him vs Buddy on Dynamite is going to be killer.

Fun Fact: Mogul Affiliates also now contains the former Tully Blanchard Enterprises through all these merges and acquisitions.

Considering the increase for Sammy’s match it seems that way. I noticed others trying to credit MJF with that rating when in reality the only part he had in that quarter hour was being shut up by JB.

Biggest miss of the night was Jungle Boy not hitting MJF with the Cymbals

    Great show

Anyone else notice Tony randomly adding that the Wembley show would be celebrating 100 years of Warner Bros.?

I wonder if they try and get Dwayne Johnson to work a match. Warner would probably rather fund him wrestling at this point than deal with him on a movie set.

    More corporate synergy!

If it means we get Bugs Bunny wrestling a match, I'm sold.

Ok I found it - Gertner says he signed a contract with ECW in May 1999 because Heyman promised him the color commentator role for ECW on TNN. Says the Dudleyz tried to talk him out of it, and that Terry Taylor called from WWE and approached him about coming in as manager for Public Enemy:

He would've definitely transitioned over to the Dudley's manager once PE flamed out. I really think that's the only reason the Dudleys were brought in in the first place, to replace a failed Public Enemy.

Would AEW benefit from having BTE on cable television as opposed to YouTube? Hear me out, I'm aware that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it seems like it would do a much better job of showing the wrestlers outside of the ring whilst continuing storylines in the process. Being able to see some of these guys in their goofy environments as opposed to always the confines of the squared circle. For some reason, I just think that it would be a better way of potentially bringing in fans who maybe aren't as familiar with the in ring product in a different way. You replace the All Access show with something like that and it not only helps your actual weekly wrestling shows, but may also drag in some of those casual fans as well. Admittedly I haven't watched too many BTE's recently, but there was a time where it was mandatory weekly viewing and I think something of this ilk would be brand new to the world of cable wrestling (or maybe I'm forgetting something).

I think it's too early to write off All Access yet, especially since it hasn't even debuted!

The main event was good but five stars feels a bit rich for what was essentially a high end spotfest. Personally it was closer to the first time I saw PAC than Rey, but the execution was great and big credit to Omega for being a 10/10 base guitarist. I just question if Vikingo has anything else to offer other than adding more rotations to flips.

As someone who attended a Hijo Del Vikingo match last night, he also has some very cool lucha submissions that he was breaking out at Warrior Wrestling against Arez but that stopped and segwayed to flips once it became a three way with Gringo Loco entering the mix.

I’d be down for a four corner mixed tag mayhem: CM Punk & AJ Lee vs Mox and Rene vs Tay & Sammy vs Eddie Kingston and his wife.

Miro is biding his time until Lana joins the Outkastz and he makes a triumph return as proud Wife Guy

Oh yeah, absolutely a team that I didn't appreciate at the time but love going back to now.

I feel like the Gunns are doing a great job as the modern successors to the PG-13/Too Much Shitass Heel Tag Team throne.

Austin is the closest we have to a Brian Christopher while Colton is definitely his father's son.

Did Billy Gunn ever spend time in Memphis  before his WWF run with Bart?

  11. Turns out Vikingo is having a match in Grand Rapids on Saturday, this Dynamite sealed a second row seat for Warrior Wrestling's show also featuring Top Flight!

What a show, I'm so into QTV's sports entertainment. It's good ol' fashioned Turner style comedy.

Do Butcher and Blade ever win on Dynamite or Rampage?  I dunno if I’ve ever seen them win a match.  They’ve got a cool look, but come across as jtts to me.

Do they win on Dark is whatever the other internet show Is called (Elevation, I think)?  I’ve never watched the streaming shoes but they’re mostly used to showcase talent not doing much on tv, right?

You should definitely watch Dark/Elevation, it usually does a good job of heating up whoever isn't normally on Dynamite/Rampage before they show up.

That being said, they last won on Rampage teaming with Rush in November.

So, I'm over here completely BAFFLED by the near-universal love that Orange vs Jarrett is receiving on these boards.

Possibly, my dislike of all things Jarrett is just irrational. If so - even if not - it's probably useful in the sense that it gives me greater empathy for people who have seemingly-irrational hatred for (lets say) The Bucks, Kenny, and/or Adam Cole, regardless of what those wrestlers actually do or say in a given week.

Jarrett taking the fewest possible bumps, doing his little strut, having a half-dozen run-ins every match, saying "Slap nuts" like it's a clever insult... None of that appeals to me. quite the opposite. I have zero nostalgia for that shit.

    But I don't think that's my issue.

What brought it into focus for me was Nicole Matthews being used to troll the crowd before Taya showed up.

I, personally, would prefer the version of AEW that doesn't treat a very good but relatively unknown pro wrestler like Nicole Matthews as a joke. I think a huge part of the reason that I loved AEW deeply, madly, unconditionally for the first three years or so was that they were constantly bringing in so many really good but relatively unknown professional wrestlers and allowing them the space to get over (or to fall flat) on their own merits on (inter)national TV. Exposing new talent to a wide audience and largely letting the crowd decide who would get a rocket strapped to them.

Occasionally bringing in someone like Miro or FTR or Ruby who maybe wasn't booked to their best advantage elsewhere and giving them a chance to shine (or not) in a new environment was also fun and interesting, and having wrestlers like Arn in a mentor role seemed a good way to scratch people's nostalgia itch without overshadowing the young wrestlers on the rise, but to me it was watching new-to-me wrestlers being given the chance to get themselves over that was the real magic.

So I think what I resent about Jarrett and Saraya in particular is that they are wrestlers who had their run at the top being brought in not as mentors, not to get a fair chance to shine that they hadn't received elsewhere... But to be treated as bigger stars than the wrestlers I had grown to love, to take up loads of TV time that I personally would prefer be given to, say, Abadon or Sonny Kiss, or Angelico, or Yuka Sakazaki... And to give a polished, professional vibe to a show that I would vastly prefer remain weirdand rough around the edges.

I am not necessarily saying that actually bringing in and pushing Nicole would be better than bringing in and pushing Taya... I am saying that, for me personally, it would be a LOT more interesting.

(Nothing against Taya. She surely belongs in the "deserves a chance to shine" group).

I am also, please note, not DEMANDING change or forecasting doom for AEW because they are no longer pandering directly to my specific tastes. Even though this week's Dynamite devoted plenty of time to Jarrett and Saraya, I still watched and enjoyed it.

On one hand, I see zero evidence that the new reliance on "established stars" is cranking up ratings or selling more tickets than the previous model of building around unique indie wrestlers and random Japanese guests...

On the other hand, obviously lots of people here are pretty happy with the current direction.

So I guess I'm just sorting out my own current dissatisfaction in my head by musing about it online. Navel gazing, as it were.

Gordlow, well said but to keep it brief and see if it's why it feeds into your Jarrett dislike

Are you a fan of Memphis at all?

Subcribed to Honor Club for at least a month, as I had ten bucks lying around. I mean, I'm already getting the PPV, so I may as well see the build-up, right? I have to see how screen mirroring from my tablet to the tv looks like. This was prompted by the fact that even Dark and Elevation don't seem to show up on my AEW+ service right now, and I never watch them from Youtube. So, I guess I have enough time for the new ROH episodes at the moment.

...aaaand there it goes. Unfortunately, the screen mirroring experience was shit, so I unsubscribed immediately, but I'll be here until April 16. This could really use a better App, for a more comfortable viewing experience. As is, it only gave me an instant headache

If you have a Roku or a Xbox, the ROH app is pretty solid on those. Can't address any other options.

  15. I'm fine with QTV being the evolution of The Factory into a more Paparazzi Productions stable.

Great Dynamite except for Saraya's promo, that was pretty garbage. Orange/Jarrett is going to be the peak of the ratings tonight, as it was a spectacular match. Very surprised that Orange retained, I swore it was Jarrett's night tonight.
