  1. I haven't listened to it yet, but I assume this is where he takes a mulligan on his second album and tries to cash in on the bright, jaunty folk-pop genre that he accidentally created with "Home."

Yeah that sounds about right. Production is a little fuzzier too.

  2. Since y'all seem so familiar with the case and Florida law, I've got to ask: wouldn't Florida's "Stand Your Ground" laws govern a plea of self defense in this case? Everyone's saying that Zimmerman didn't use SYG, he used self defense, but if SYG is the law of the land, then surely it governs whether or not self defense applies, no? For instance, if someone broke into my house, I killed him, and a murder case ensued, I wouldn't plea "asshole was in my house uninvited so I'm allowed to shoot him," I'd plea self defense, and laws governing property (or whatever) would influence the strength of my defense, right? Or am I wrong?

  3. i will sing with the choir.  The Conjuring was fucking awesome! Equal to The Devil's Backbone as far as quality ghost stories go.

The little easter egg at the ending was pretty awesome, too.

I was surprised by the lack of chuckles in my theater when Lorraine Warren mentioned that they had been called in to investigate an "incident in Long Island."  I guess that The Amityville Horror is falling out of the pop culture zeitgeist

And yeah, when I was a kid I kept confusing the stories of Robert the Haunted Doll with Annabelle but they are two different stories, each of which are equally creepy.

I think that is awesome that James Wan was so scared shitless by the occult museum and respected the Warren's philosophy so much ("People who are not prepared to deal with evil should not challenge evil." - Ed Warren) that Wan declined to visit the museum and did not use a more accurate representation of Annabelle in the film (she was actually a Raggedy Ann doll and not a porcelain one like the doll in the movies).

High praise. Now I've gotta check it out.

  4. That's what I still don't understand, though I'm sure it's been driven into the ground elsewhere: if, in the exact same circumstances, even as Zimmerman describes them, Martin had killed Zimmerman, wouldn't he be justified under the Stand Your Ground law?
