  1. Well many like me wonder what happen when a big name left AEW - a founding EVP with a reality show and game show on the Turner networks is pretty much big. in the US market, Cody Rhodes has name value with AEW.  Must have been some really interesting set of discussions, and TK has some sense of Cody's value to AEW that differs with Cody's view.

Curious to see what they do with Cody's reality show which I expect is primarily in the can; the synergy between AEW and his other shows should really be fun to watch.

I remember a time where - no bullshit - Sheamus was so pale it would hurt my eyes to watch him on TV. The lighting made him look like an anime character with how brightly he glowed.

As an Irishman, I gave Sheamus a pass but it's now almost part of the gimmick. Like he would get a sun burn in 2 minutes in the Florida summer sun.

Matt Jackson looking he just walked out a tanning salon made it worse for Cole last night.

  3. Keith Lee looked liked a man renewed.  You could literally feel him having fun, and soaking in being Keith Lee.

FTR losing drives me nuts but a CM Punk/Mox pairing was certainly great.

Adam Page is ready to kill himself as champ; not sure if I can remember a champ working this hard since well Brett Hart in some ways.

Wardlow is over - ready to explode. Keith Lee/Wardlow/Murderhawk - nice set of monsters to build off.

TK bringing out Ali and daring WWE to sue, then using his billions to fight WWE to abandon their non-compete practices and, eventually, independent contractor practices, would be a hell of a thing.  Why fight for viewers when you can hit them where it actually does hurt?

While an interesting fight is Ali really the person to have the fight over?

If Bryan Danielson is putting together a team of Catch Wrestling style fighters, they’re going to need a coach, a manager if you will. If only there was someone out there, a free agent who is a catch style wrestling legend, a friend and mentor to Danielson who could fill that role. They would probably have to be a real man’s man, though.

Someone with a regal presence, a true blue blood.  If only such a person was out there

Paige Vanzant looks like a star, has incredible presence, seems completely natural in the wrestling world and has tremendous charisma.  I'd never seen or heard of her prior to her AEW apperances, but IMO she's stood out in every segment she's been a part of.  The crowd reaction seems consistent with this suggestion.  I agree that she likely needs a capable carrier (Deeb) to have a competitive match, but it also seems perfectly fine to have her come in and murder Brandi quick leading to future said competitive match.  I'd also agree that if a Brandi match were to go long it'd need a sprinkling of the Anna-Jade miracle lubrication.  Again, she may very well fail, it isn't an easy job, but I think it's worth being a little patient when somebody so clearly has such star potential.

PVZ is a star - on social media. You can argue she is as big a star on the women's side in MMA today. She is making mad money outside of the UFC. Her biggest detractors  say she is a way bigger star than her MMA skills are deserving. Me - she is playing the game really well, and broke free of the UFC monopoly.

But PVZ is a tough cookie - she does not mind getting hit in the face. I think Deeb is a great choice to both help her and I hope train her. If PVZ really goes into wrestling, she can be a huge star and really help AEW go even more mainstream. Just not convinced of it yet.

Not sure the equation for PVZ that equals nothing is quite fair.  Might be worth giving her a little time.  I suspect those accomplishments, her natural charisma, and what she potentially could do might lead to nothing, but it might also lead to something very special.

The easiest comparison for PVZ is Rousey. Rousey IMO has way more name recognition than PVZ. The question is this - Rousey first time around with WWE was really special; she really took to the entire thing with gusto, did the work and was more than credible in the ring for the most part. Every now and then her lack of experience would show up, but in general she was not just showing up. She was well protected for sure, but she showed respect for the wrestling business.

With PVZ, I am not convinced she has the same passion at all for wrestling. She is there playing a part, and well she is with Brandi Rhodes. Versus say Nattie for Rhonda.  PVZ still sees her self in MMA - but she could have a career in pro wrestling too (a reverse Jake Hager).

Note: Rhonda looked noticeably worse in the Rumble though

  8. This show was really 3 segments

    1) The opening segment with Mox/Danielson. The Danielson promo was just awesome. I loved it, loved the idea and concept. I would love to know who came up with the entire scenario. It has some many opportunities and directions. Granted we have a bunch of big groups in AEW but this has  a different feel. And I liked that Wheeler got more shine.

    2) The tag match was really good. Brody King as a monster works well.  The entire match was strong. Way more left here.

    3) Punk losing to MJF in Chicago before a really hot crowd. Never ever did I think it would happen. But AEW is really letting their young pillars shine through. Punk worked an amazing match, and MJF was right there. The ending with Wardlow (not a beat down interfering which was the easy route) was really creative. AEW keeps giving on TV long matches with no multiple run-ins for free.  MJF as AEW champ in 2022 makes sense; and Punk made him even hotter last night.

AEW has invested a solid 18 months plus in the young pillars, and now they are getting to shine.  Can't say that the "vets" are willing to lay down in the right time and place. Which is good for the company and pro wrestling.

Soho and Nyla match was very good; and got Nyla over too. Very heel night actually if look at the matches (and that was not a bad thing). What does this mean for Nyla - time will tell. Man Vicky was really shrill last night.

Rest of the show was not so great. PVZ has name value. and a ton of followers on Instagram. Heck, she has been the SI swimsuit addition. But still does nothing.

I'd think the fact that she worked in jeans, a cheap tank top, and a long sleeve t that they gimmicked to make it look like she had a cleavage window should tell you how much prep time she had for the Rumble...

WWE is all about name value with Wrestlemania. But it's their blue print for "success" - Mr. T, Cyndy Lauper, Trump - but usually the real success has been wrestling talent on top.

Rousey can be good - but not sure she will be by April.

Also Rousey's punches look like shit.

That was some Shane O'Mac level stuff in the corners.

I saw at some ring rust - no clue how much time she put in before last night. They looked really bad. I thought Rousey was pretty darn good when she first started given how little she has been in a pro wrestling ring but last night was not good.

I'd say the biggest problem is this: you don't put the belt on Andre.

Lesnar is the modern-day Andre. And they put the belt on him constantly.

This is what, the second year in a row now that they've done " Lesnar inserts himself into big gimmick match at last minute and easily wins to get a title shot"? It makes the whole roster look like shit.

Ironically, the "people person Lesnar" thing is a move in the right direction, but what he needs to be doing at this point is acting as an odd-evener like Andre used to. Say, Ricochet gets on the bad side of AJ and Omos (assuming they never split). They're beating him regularly until he bumps into Lesnar in the back one day, and Brock's like, "hey I remember when you helped eliminate me in the Rumble a couple years ago. You got gumption, I like that. Lemme help you out." Bang, Ricochet gets a rub from teaming with Brock, Omos gets a rub from being enough of a threat to involve Brock.

Bottom line, Brock don't need the belt. Neither does Rousey for that matter, nor did Goldberg. They gotta stop putting the belts on special attractions if they ever wanna build up a pool of new main event talent.

Exactly - and Brock we know is not a full timer.  He had the belt and was literally not on TV for weeks. The main roster must look at this and be deflated. Don't blame Brock, its a great gig for him.

More than likely slowly going up the pecking order of women on the roster. But they’ll need to start looking for challengers from outside the company if they want her to get 50. I wonder if that’s why they are experimenting with Megan Bayne to set up an obstacle for her in the future.

I liked how they used the Cody TNT open challenge to bring in "other" talents.  It worked and really made the title unique in not only AEW but in wrestling.

  13. Like how they are going all Goldberg on Jade but not unlike Goldberg she needs to be in the ring with more vets which well AEW does not have on the womens side. Julia and Jade was not good, and should have been on  Youtube.  Jade is getting better but she needs really good opponents. Julia needs alot more reps

Being a great wrestler doesn’t always overlap with being a great gatekeeper. I think JTTSs have to be people who were once extremely over and have lifelong equity or someone with a gimmick that makes them bulletproof.

Frankie has some name value - the mid-card face spots who can work a longer match?

You have the Varsity Blondes but they are still green.

She even wears the eye patch when they do bits on Sammy’s vlog.  Committed!

Julia is so young - She just turned 20. I assume she is getting some serious coaching/advice in the back. But yep she is living the gimmick off camera which is pretty unusual these days.

  16. I was reflecting on the Julia Black vignette. First, unlike the TNT title with the open challenge, we have the champ calling out her opponents - interesting reverse. Then Julia is now not wearing the cheerleader outfit - loving the booking here.

  17. Cole/OC was going to have a hard time after the ladder match. I have been kind of over ladder matches but that one was very good, and man did both men go all out.  Easily could or should have been on a PPV - feels like AEW puts a truly PPV match on every other week on Dynamite.  God love TK for that
