  1. Oh AEW - just when I think it's ok to not pay attention to Wednesday night. Wow that was just a really fun show. The first 30 plus minutes was incredible to me. The Starks segment was some serious gold-the 10 years old me watching JCP flashback of a face turn for Starks. Hook gets the FTW title which feels important.

Garcia gets a great rub in one heck of a match. I loved that the "vets" are all positioning themselves to elevate the younger folks.

Christian-Jungle Boy is going to be great and we get Jungle Boy on the mic.

Trios titles could be great, but man I wanted not belts but the trophy from WCCW days.

The only thing that did not work was Anna Jay on the mic. She is just hard to see as a heel.

    Really?

Dax cuts a heart-felt promo about his daughter surviving a life-threatening heart condition, and they release a t-shirt with 100 % of royalties going to the American Heart Association, and that's "corny" and "cringe"?

    Fucks sake.

Think it's time for me to take a short break before I start saying stuff I regret.. I'll be back on the 31st for the start of Secret Santo ?

Right there - I loved the entire promo from FTR; and the t-shirt is an incredible idea. It was some babyface red meat gold promo stuff.  It was a clear highlight and made me want to see the match. Talking folks into the building is still the goal...

  3. Anna turning was a little too telegraphed for me but still was good. But the main event being rushed again for a stips match which was pointed out earlier here. It was an over engineered match. The beauty of old school barb wire matches is no one gets in because of the barb wire; the match was some weird not barb wire match.

The FTR promo was gold. The Allin Brody King match and post-match with Sting and Miro was really good. After that, not so great for me.  After a few great Dynamites in a row, this one just was under whelming.

Excalibur is really good but sometimes he misses the chance to call out actual plot points in matches (like when wrestler A hits a big move that matters) because the other guys are rambling about something inconsequential, or not as meaningful.  With a few exceptions, I think two commentators is the best way to do it.

He has grown into the role well.  He has the task of moving things along plus all the promos.

    Quick Pillar checkin -

    MJF: Off TV

    Jungle Boy: Off TV

    Sammy: Off TV?

    Darby: Still kicking ass

Might I suggest an MLB Pipeline-esk mid season adjustment to the top prospects list

Wardlow, Powerhouse Hobbs, The Acclaimed and you can stay, Darby

Sammy is cooling off for a moment; adjunct part of JAS I guess. Tay was on last night (I think that was taped earlier?).  Still a pillar IMO but yeah Wardlow is in; Love the Acclaimed too. Once Jungle gets through Christian, expect him to really hit on a singles run (TNT title run?). The problem is the World Title picture is still got some real top names to go through.

Helps having such a deep roster and making new stars as AEW's done.

Contrast that to WWE Emergency: Break glass for Brock.

My thoughts exactly - of course the timing of MJF with the conclusion of the Wardlow saga did not hurt AEW. I give credit to MJF for showing and doing the honors in Vegas. But AEW's been able to build around more than one, and even with a slew of really high profile injuries able to still put on some really great matches.

Meanwhile Vince's answer is Brock-Roman, rinse and repeat.

  7. OC-Wardlow was way, way more enjoyable than I thought it would be. Wardlow has the versality I did not know he had. How did he not land on WWE is beyond me now. I know Wardlow's entrace has some serious Goldberg vibes but I am actually Ok with it.  Is Wardlow a new pillar instead of MJF?

One thing I noticed was Anna Jay wearing her original pre-Dark Order gear tonight. Kudos to Deeb for helping lead Anna via a very good match. Deeb is a great hand for sure, just not my personal cup of tea. Curious were Anna goes next; and does Deeb get the ROH Title?

The 3 way for the tag titles was enjoyable, and the last few minutes was great. Got think the Bucks getting the titles was now pure transitional, and maybe the Hardys were the original plan all along.  But I was hoping Buck-FTR still

The Christian segment was just ok, and both women's promos were not that great.  Jericho - when does Fozzy go on tour? Seriously, if JAS helps elevate Garcia and 2point0 more (and it has) it's ok. I need more Daddy Magic.

Still another fun night of pro wrestling.

What are we expecting the main at Grand Slam to be?

    - Mox/Punk

    - Punk/Kingston

    - Mox/Kingston

    - Punk/Danielson

    - Something else?

Assuming Punk/Mox makes to the PPV intact

    Punk/Kingston..Chicago vs NY.

  9. The one match I really wanted to see was the Original Wargames. The hype for that match was insane in my mind. So getting a Wargames match like last night on free TV was actually incredible. I had a few oh my gosh moments and wondered out loud what AEW's new bosses thought about that on live TV. Time will tell but that was way more than Dusty getting juice on TBS on Saturday night.

I need to watch the first hour, but from the sound of it, Christian's blowing Edge's heel run from this year out of the water.

Indeed he did - as someone else said Dark Luchasaurus is the new Tomko (and improved). 2 promos in 2 weeks and this whole feud is set to be fire. Christian is channeling some of old Brett and Owen Hart heat.

  11. Christian's promo was cringe worthy heel greatness. Felt like a greatest hits of a heel promo (dead father, making money, past greatness).  It went a touch long but setup months worth of programming. Yeah the end is elevating Jungle Boy but it's great way to get him some real training.

Okada and Tanahashi on my US TV live on a major cable network? Wow that thought 5 years ago was dream. Watching Tanahashi these days - Clearly reminds me of older wrestlers at the end of their career whose bodies are just not there anymore. But whose greatness is still apparent. Older Randy Savage ?

  12. As a big early UFC fan, I was a huge Matt Hughes guy.  Not sure I have ever seen him since the train crash, much less seen him in more than a quick cameo.  Wow - that was hard to see. The train crash and subsequent brain issues have really changed him for the worse.

  13. I think All Atlantic is intended not unlike the NWJP US Title. Defended on other shows, and other promotions including international.  Keep TNT and World Champs on AEW branded shows while this title has more freedom outside the US especially

This is why I really like the HookHausen pairing. gives him something to do until he gets his big push up the card

It also helps develop his character more. I mean Riddle has really gotten over with RKBro well.

  15. Interesting that Khan is going the UFC route with interim titles when the champ is hurt. Totally different than the traditional pro wrestling route although the dual IC titles that lead to the Ladder match at Wrestlemania lead to a great match. I just hope the unification match is NOT a ladder match in this case.

Can Punk be back in 3 months? Becomes the natural main event come Labor Day

The only standout thing about MJF is his full-time commitment to being a chickenshit asshole heel. Otherwise, he's a talented guy on a roster of incredibly talented guys.

Ironically this truly old school approach (Bill Watts may not approve of the language but suspect Watts loves the commitment) feels so fresh.  The Miz is a great heel until he shows up on his reality show as this goofy Dad figure.

I know MJF gets the Piper comparisons but wondering if he more a new age Hotstuff Eddie Gilbert clone. Gilbert as a heel was pure gold.

Have to think last night's hot crowd in LA did not hurt AEW in front of the new bosses

  17. Show was just too long by a bunch.

I missed the Hardys match.  But could have been more a Dynamite match as well. I guess they figure the Bucks need to go over in LA?

Scorpio Sky, Ethan Page & Paige Vanzant vs. Frankie Kazarian, Sammy Guevara & Tay Conti. I like Tay but she could not carry PVZ enough. And the match from the outset made little sense - Sammy and Tay are more heels than Sky and Page?

Jade-Anna. I know AEW and everyone is really high on Jade and she has improving; and I like Anna as well but again this is not a PVV match.

Allin-KOR was a really good match but perfect for a Dynamite.

With entrances there is 60 minutes back.

  18. I know the cage setup takes times etc but after the first match, the only place was down. The pop for Wardlow was insane.  Wardlow on top of the cage - what a incredible visual. And Shawn Spears deserves alot of credit for his part in this. Should have ended the show

The "Adam Page sucks" mind virus is spreading ...

This is why we don't deserve nice things. ?

I have enjoyed Adam Page and his run. The question which is hard to even calculate is he selling tickets or PPV buys?

Double or Nothing - not sure his match with Punk is really the main event with MJF/Wardlow the real main event.

  20. I always feel like Dynamite has 1 segment too much OR one segment that runs long (see Jericho) that rushes the rest of the show. Producing a live show that must fit in a 2 hour window is hard work.  Especially when the crowd interaction comes into play.

I was always skeptical of the reports AEW would be heavily featured, because it’s AEW TV day and nobody could be there. Upfronts are all about razzle dazzle. If AEW can’t put stars on stage, they’re not going to get featured.

I will say that Dynamite being featured prominently in their Premiere package is a bigger deal than most people will realize. That package has been key to Discovery’s business the last few years and will presumably be an even bigger piece moving forward with the addition of the Warner properties.

I think it's much bigger if you look the other shows listed on the other nights.  These other shows are big Discovery shows.
