30 years ago tonight was the first-ever show at ECW Arena

I was there. I loved those early ECW shows. It wasn't the same after they went to having PPV in different locations and the Arena shows were no longer the big show every three weeks.  It also became like Yogi said that no one goes there anymore because it is too crowded.

St. Mark’s Place is where my friends and I all got our first pairs of Doc Marten’s in the early 90s before you could get them at fucking Journeys.

All of this talk of St. Marks and no one has brought up Itsuki Yamazaki's Restaurant Go. I've met many wrestling people there. Bull Nakano and Tiger Hattori many times. I took some of Wally Yamaguchi's friends there after a MSG show to hang with Wally and Bull. Madusa, Osamu Nishimura, Luna, Kaientai, LCO, Yamada and Toyota, Yoshitatsu, and others that I can't remember right now. Go closed 10 plus years ago due NYC rents. I've kept up with Itsuki and her husband and the various places they have worked at/run since then. I'm probably the only person on this board that played golf with Itsuki's husband.

I remember Sounds record shop with lots of promos, cut outs and used with those damn stickers on the covers. Picked up some good punk records from Venus. 20 years after that prog CDs and cheap reggae 45s from Kim's. I was sad when Grassroots basement bar closed recently. That was a go to meeting place in the no cell phone era. Like "where the hell is he? I'll just go to Grassroots and wait there".

It seems like the Tokyo Dome is the only large scale facility Japanese wrestling uses these days.  I'm not sure why,  back in the 90s FMW for example would run baseball stadiums for their big cards.

FMW used outdoor stadiums (and parking lots) so they could blow stuff up and play with fire. NJPW would run more if they could sell enough tickets.

Just to be safe, ban all signs.

I wish that all of the wrestling companies banned signs. Unfortunately for me most of them have banned cameras. Pisses me off. I won't go to AEW and now MLW because of the camera ban. The sign jerks should be like Japan and hold up the signs at chin level while still seated. Down in front assholes!

It's not like AEW doesn't have someone who worked a fast food gimmick on the roster already.  Hot, spicy, and tastes great!

Yes, I'm aware of him, Sushi, Nino Hamburgesa, etc.. That's why I was surprised that I somehow missed someone doing a Whattaburger gimmick.

Good luck trying to chance any of Dave’s quirks at this point.

The AEW quirk that bugs me is calling Jordan's, Lebron's and other basketball sneakers "tennis shoes".

This weeks issue has "Guevara said he had to spend ten years on the indies and work as Whattaburger and Subway". I missed that as was a typo for at, and thought how could I have missed someone working as a fast food character.

I took Japanese in college(i failed) but i know enough to infer.  Same with high school Spanish and lucha commentary.

My brain turns off any English when I try to speak Spanish. However when I don't know the Spanish word my brain substitutes Japanese verbs in the Spanish sentence.

I bought a mask from Violento Jack when I went to Japan last month. Our conversation was a mix of Japanese, Spanish and English. It kind of just flowed that way. I also went to one of the Fantasctica Mania shows. Being in Japan but trying to understand all of the videos and announcing in Spanish messed me up in my head.

For a second I got crossed up and was picturing Jimmy Hart, not Gary. That was an unusual visual.

Has anyone mentioned the bit on BTE where JD Drake explains Bowling to Ryan Nemeth and makes him corpse like three times? Because that was good.

Hey, I always get crossed up and read DC Drake whenever someone mentions JD Drake here.

  9. I just got back to New Jersey from a trip to see Muto's final and assorted stuff.

I went to Natsu Bar after a Tiger Mask show at Korakuen. I unfortunately missed a tweet by her about the same time I left to go that she felt unwell and went home. At least I know how to get there now.

Kyoko Inoue did the same thing and just her young boy was at her bar when I got there. I went around the corner to go to Noriyo Tateno's drink bar instead. Noriyo showed me some video pushing the JB Angels for the WWE HoF. She is still tight with Itsuki. The noren at Itsuki's new restaurant is a gift from Noriyo. I'm happy that I got to go there after an absence of a few years. I had thoughts of going to Kaoru Kage's restaurant on the same street, but when I went to Noriyo's, Kaoru was sitting next to me at the bar.

I had the usual good times at Genki Misae's Izakaya Never Give Up. You can actually have a full meal there. I went there twice. One of the times, Kabuki and his wife called me over to sit at the table with them and some regulars from his restaurant, which used to be in the location that Misae runs now.

Speaking of actual wrestling, I saw a Stardom show with 47 wrestlers followed by a Big Japan show the next day with 10 wrestlers.

Actwres GirlZ at Radiant Hall was shockingly good. They have nearly all new girls because SAKI continued COLOR'S and everyone good went free when they stopped wrestling shows for a while. Check them out if you can.

Thankfully his daughters survived.  Sadly not surprised at all that he wasn't wearing his seatbelt.  All the crazy shit he did in the wrestling and that's what gets him.  A college football player from Georgia just died in a car crash, same thing.  Hope we don't find out the other driver was on her phone, just to make it even more senseless

She might have been passing. That is allowed in that area. It really freaked me out the first time I was in a car that did that down there.

I actually randomly met him twice when he was doing one of his weekday jobs in Delaware. Nice guy, as everyone else has mentioned.

Normally I struggle to get into Kenoh matches, he's one of those guys I just have an irrational dislike towards.

His damn haircut. I can't take him seriously just because of that. You are not irrational at all.

All y'all need to be more open-minded about food.

Unless in this case wtf means, "Well, that's fine."

Nooooo! Gordi. When Japanese people ask me about what Japanese food I can't eat they are expecting me to say fish eggs or fish sperm sack or something like that, but I always say iranai (not needed) mayo. You live in takoyaki land. I always have to strongly say mayo nashi!

Less than 10% of all votes from a region and dropped from next year’s ballot: Adrian Adonis & Jesse Ventura, Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty, Blackjack Mulligan, Harley Race & Larry Hennig, Kinji Shibuya & Masa Saito, Mr. Wrestling I & II, Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee, New Age Outlaws, Riki Choshu & Animal Hamaguchi, Naomichi Marufuji, Rito Romero, L’Ange Blanc, Ricki Starr, Lord James Blears

Added to next year’s ballot: Jon Moxley, Seth Rollins, Young Bucks, The Beauty Pair (Jackie Sato & Mach Fumiake)

Mach for Maki is one of those strange autocorrect/typos that seem to pop up in every week's issue.

I would vote for Rocca/Perez, Slaughter and The Beauty Pair. Just the Beauty Pair song is enough to make the HoF.
