    1. Josh Barnett is a bit out there.

    2. Hawk worked a ton in Japan.

    3. Hawk had a rep as being a tough guy.

    4. Coming out to "Iron Man" and Barnett being the age where that would have had a big impact on him growing up.

Super Vader, not NJ Big Van Vader or every where else Vader, just U-Inter.. Dean Malenko could do everything, going back to the thread somewhere here about versatile wrestlers like Norman Smiley.

Just a reminder that BS TV is somewhere between terrestrial and cable TV in Japan. So it's a nice deal that NJPW is back on  golden (re:prime) time but it's not WWE on Fox. Still, we're going from a random half-hour on late Saturday nights as the only wrestling on TV to two shows

It is somewhat of an upgrade from the CS Asahi that runs a hour long World Pro Wrestling program. As you stated, It is not prime time on regular TV. CS Asahi has a nostalgia wrestling show sometimes. Last year they had Abdullah and Chono in a studio talking about and showing Abby matches from New Japan. They both had language and memory problems talking to each other and it was kind of comical.

I really enjoyed the Osaka main event today. The stalling after the overkill in the prior two matches plus the blood got me into the match.

It’s killing me that I can’t remember what it’s called, but there was a 70s B movie about a heel wrestler who’s being stalked by a psycho who doesn’t understand it’s a work. I thought it was called Mad Dog, but I can’t find it now. The trailer was excellent. It starts with a narrator saying, “This man is a professional son of a bitch.”

    Mad Bull with Alex Karras.

  4. I will have seen all 111 episodes of the weekly TNA PPVs after I watch the last five left on my DVR. Fight Network showed them in order and I was crazy enough to record them all. After the last one they started over from number 1 and are running through them for the second time now. The shows were fun as as a weekly free show on cable. Paying for them would be an entirely different thing.

  5. Chigusa and Satomura are running a GAEA Japan show on April 15 at Korakuen Hall. Semifinal is an all GAEA match with Chigusa, Satomura, and Hirota vs. KAORU, Nagashima and Toshie Uematsu. Main is Takumi vs. Hashimoto. Sadly it is announced as a one time memorial show.

I just got back from the All Japan 1/3 show.  Some rambling notes, spoilerized just in case:

Lots of pockets of foreigners but no goofballs.  Hooray for us.

Lack of goofballs is proportional to lack of foreigners in Bullet Club/Elite gear in my observation this year. Other people have noted this too.

@gordi they could easily just run the 3rd if they wanted to take advantage of the weekend next year. With the onus being on the more traditional 4th rather than the 5th. I hope not. But seeing the numbers this weekend it may be worth pursuing.

The dome is booked for The Rice Bowl American Football game on the 3rd every year.

Not in a snarky way but I wonder who is going to go to the Dave Meltzer appearance at Toudoukan on the 4th.

I'll be in Tokyo from the 31st to the 2nd. I'm thinking about going to a show but nothing really strikes me as definite go to. Would have liked to be able to go to the 1/3 AJPW show with the Miyahara/Lee main but I can't stretch my trip out that long. Any recommendations? Maybe Z-1 at Korakuen. But that's mainly just to say I went to Korakuen.

Edit: Just to be clear, I live in Japan so I'm just thinking about the shows during that window when I'm in Tokyo.

Ribbonmania on 31st. Big Japan on 2nd.

  9. I like live wrestling to be like a broadcast of a sporting event. I watched the Destroyer memorial today. They opened up with listing the matches on the show, then had the matches. Short post match locker room interviews. They did have ceremonial stuff with old people and family talking about Destroyer. I liked the old monthly MSG shows way more even though the wrestling was half nothing. AEW is getting away from a wrestling card and moving towards being a TV show. I'm just old and crotchety now.

  10. I'm watching a random TNA PPV on my DVR from Fight Network. Eric Young won a 10 man elimination match over Doug Williams, Petey Williams, Hiroshi Tanahash, Volador Jr., Jay Lethal, Homicide, Consequences Creed, Jimmy Rave and Sonjay Dutt. It was a good action match. I'm just sad how deep Eric Young is buried now. He can do anything from face to heel and serious to comedy. I never even see his name mentioned recently.
