You get the Raven/ Dreamer feud? I mean, Vader's Japanese finishes were the Chokeslam and the Powerbomb, but... did he wrestle Taue in a singles match?

Yep.  Four times, according to Cagematch.  First time was for the Triple Crown (Vader won to become champion.  Taue wasn't champ at the time.  Kawada beat Misawa for the title, but broke his arm in the match and vacated the  title the next day).

Vader and Taue were also in approximately 60 tag matches together.  They actually teamed once or twice in the early 2000's, but mot of the tags and six-mans had them on opposite sides (ie, Holy Demon Army vs. Hansen/Vader or whatever).

(EDIT - I just realized I'd make you actually watch that clip if I didn't say what he said...   Dak talked about mental health & depression from his brother's death and Covid this year. Skip called it a sign of weakness for a franchise leader to say. "No sympathy for an NFL QB to say that")

Fox Sports felt obliged to put out a statement later that day distancing themselves from Bayless' comment.  They also allegedly reprimanded him privately (probably for infringing on Tucker Carlson's gimmick).

Honestly, I rather like Bayless when he was just a Dallas newspaper guy.  The couple books he wrote on the Cowboys were quite good.  But since he joined ESPN and became a media personality, he seems like a miserable person who doesn't want to work in sports anymore.  But... I can never tell if he's being genuine when he makes controversial comment or if he's just working a gimmick.  Both?

If you were in a shoot ladder match, what would your strategy be?

Practice getting a briefcase off a hook beforehand, in case I ever get into a shoot ladder match.  You would't think something like that would require a lot of practice, but apparently you'd be wrong since most every wrestler ever entered in a ladder match has trouble freeing the briefcase.

The second part of my strategy would involve playing dead until my opponent started climbing the ladder, then tipping him over.  Why ladder matches last more than 30 secs, I'll never know.  Then again, most of us could climb a ladder in the amount of time it takes a normal human to recover from a 20-30 fall onto concrete, so apparently we have at least one advantage over pro wrestlers.

Just to play “Devil’s Asshole”. I believe Cody today is more recognizable than Dawson.

Would anyone who hasn't followed wrestling in the last 20 years have even heard of Cody Rhodes/Runnels?  I've never thought the bubble was all that big unless you're John Cena, the Rock, a couple others.

worst trade since the Vikings gave Dallas a dynasty's worth of draft picks for Herschel Walker

Also Kabuki Warriors, though that wash't a booking decision.

  6. I was disappointed that Bayley didn't explain her attack on Sasha by saying "Sasha was the one who told me my new haircut looked good!"   I guess they were afraid that might babyface her.

Wobbly Walrus might be amusing.  It's WWE, though, so probably not.  I kinda want the Walrus to make a bunch of changes to the funhouse, only for the Vince puppet to get bored the following week and fire him, but that's probably too on the nose.

I really dig heel Roman, even if his face is slowly and creepily morphing into Edge's.  Kinda groaned when they announced the tag match, but it worked fine to reinforce Roman's new character.  Hopefully, Roman gives Jey a savage beating to cement the heel turn.

I was ROLLING when the camera cut to Tamina and Cole hit us with “Tamina also in this matchup.” Sums up her career.

Yeah, that was great.  Cole was just so deadpan that it made it awkward.  Kinda reminded me of Booker calling a Heath Slater match years ago an SD.  Slater came out and Booker says "He calls himself the one-man band....."

    <Awkward pause>

    "...because he's in a band.....

    <Another awkward pause>

"... and he's the only one in it."

WWE commentators have a knack for killing guys’ heat without even trying, lol.

So apparently Immortals: Fenyx Rising borrows heavily from Breath of the Wild

I thought that was common knowledge (or, at least commonly assumed).  There was talk last summer about how heavily it seemed to be inspired by BoTW.  IRRC, the designers even admitted it.

Actually, Ubisoft says elements of the game were re-imagined since the first trailer debuted last year, so I'm guessing early builds owed even more to Zelda.

Here's the E3 2019 trailer (which doesn't show any actual gameplay):

I was actually more interested when I thought it was a straight-up Zelda riff.  I also dislike the new title, for what that's worth.  I'm interested but going to wait for reviews.

The Sturgis rally, where Chris Jericho and Fozzy performed, has now reached superspreader event status.

More than 250,000 cases of Covid-19 have been linked to the event.

John Hopkins came out today publicly questioning the accuracy of the study.  Basically, the model the economists who put together study used was weak and their methodology was flawed.  AP was only able to confirm 290 cases of the virus among people who actually attended the event (roughly 500,000 people).  John Hopkins' paper did say that the event did likely cause a spike in cases (presumably not the magnitude the original study claimed).

The GX guys were not too complimentary today either.

That's disappointing.  Saw a few sites i like trash it, so.... I'll wait for reviews, but there was a quality HD remaster for the PS3, so I'm not sure why there's a need for a remake unless you're really going to put the resources into it and market the game as a Triple-A title (like Sony did with the Shadow of the Colossus remake).  Honestly, I'd prefer to either see Mechner return and work on a new game or Ubisoft to greenlight a sequel to the 2008 title and I don't think either of those things are going to happen.

Watched the Ubisoft Forward a bit ago and it was.... ok.  Ubisoft excels at making a lot of games that I buy but rarely get too excited about.  Which is weird, because Assassin's Creed is probably my favorite franchise of the past 20 years and I've been a Rayman mark since the original game was released on the Saturn.  I always feel like I should be more into Ubisoft titles than I am.  I'm a bit curious why they seem to have rebranded Steep (and seem to be pretending Riders Republic is a brand new concept).

I'm STILL trying to play games from PS3 generation that I never played the first time around like Resistance 3.

    Same.

Also, PS3 had great shooters.  I'm not even a huge fan of the genre, but Resistance trilogy, Killzone 2 & 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Vanquish, Spec Ops.  There are probably a bunch of good ones from that gen that I've never played because I don't dive into the genre enough (if anyone wants to make some recommendations, feel free).

  11. I've really enjoyed Josh Williamson's Flash run, but I don't know how I feel about

    Spoiler

Zoom being able to screw with the Flash family by "Inception-ing" them.  The new issue has Zoom revealing that he's spent the past few years running around and planting dumb ideas in the speedsters' heads by talking to them super-fast (basically, he now has the ability to plat subliminal messages in people's minds).  It was Zoom that caused Jay's mid-life crisis, that caused Barry and Wally and the other speedsters to fall out, that caused Bart to run away.  It was also Zoom that gave Batman and Barry the idea to keep the Watchman button investigation a secret.  And, it was Zoom that gave Wally the idea to panic and cover-up what had happened in Heroes in Crisis.

One the one hand, it's a good way to clean up some awful character development decisions.  On the other hand, it makes Zoom out to be too much of a boogeyman.  He didn't really need the extra push to give his conflict with Barry pathos.   And, it's a convenient deus ex machina way to redeem a couple characters (Wally).   I'm still wondering if this way planned from the beginning or if Williamson and editorial came up with it to hand wave away decisions like Hero in Crisis that tanked badly.

Beyond that, I feel like it's a fairly wonky idea that Zoom can run around and talk to multiple speedsters on multiple occasions without Flash, Jay, Bart, etc. realizing he was there.  I've always assumed the speedsters had the ability to process sensory data at super speed too.  Not sure the comics have ever explained it like that, but the characters wouldn't be able to run at super speed, much less fight each other, if they couldn't.  Otherwise, they'd plow through every cat, dog, car, person, and beach ball that got in their path.

First misstep in a very good run, though.  Although, it's probably time to take Zoom off the canvas for awhile. Williamson has used him a lot.

    Also this week

    Spoiler

Dick Grayson finally got his memory back. I was fine with them trying the storyline - I liked Nick Spencer's Cap run, after all - but the execution was never there.

  12. Was debating today if I want to buy a next gen console this year, and if so, which one?  Am I the only person who feels like we don't really need next gen consoles yet?  I mean, I can't imagine I'm going to enjoy games any more on the PS5 than i do on the PS4.  And the PS4 has had a rather good year.  The triple-A output has been great.  Dreams, FF VII Remake, TLOU II, Ghost of Tsushima, Doom Eternal, etc.  And the system still gets good support.  There are at least a couple indie games virtually every week that interest me.  Same with Switch.  Nintendo's been kinda quiet, though they're allegedly gearing up for a big push in 2021.  I feel like PS4 and Switch both still have legs.  And it's not like anyone is going to run out of games to play in this gen.  It's not an exaggerating to say there are hundreds, maybe even a 1,000, of games from this gen that I'd still like to find the time to play.  For that matter, there are a lot of games from last gen that I'm still hoping to play or replay.

I will admit that the Xbox One probably doesn't have legs, but, eh, it was running on stumps by the end of year one to begin with.

Beyond that, I started wondering if I'm actually going to get any more enjoyment out of a next gen console than I do the PS4, Switch, or even my PS3 and Xbox 360.  i very rarely turn on my PS4 (or even Switch) and think "that game doesn't look stunning."  For that matter, I almost never play the PS3 or X360 and think that I'd enjoy the game more on PS4.  Lol, it's a real shame Rockstar couldn't build out that world in Red Dead Redemption like they wanted.  I feel like we hit a point with the PS3/X360 where developers weren't that limited by hardware.  Most everyone could do what they wanted in terms of graphics and size of environments and complexity without having to make a lot of concessions to the hardware.  Budget and skill became bigger obstacles than hardware.

Then there's the whole issue of the pandemic and economic recession/depression.  Can you successfully launch new games in this climate?  Will developers be able to get enough new games in the next year or two or three to support the new consoles?

Anyone else feel this way?  I'm starting to feel like i'm going to spend money on a next gen console just to spend money.  I look at the trailers we've seen for next gen games and think "You honestly couldn't have this on a PS4?  Really?"

Am I the only one that's fine with a nice single player game that is just a set narrative that you're experiencing? As much as I like branching story choices and stuff, sometimes it's nice to just sit for like 15 hours or whatever and just experience a straightforward story. I don't know that GoT would have been better if you could have different outcomes for these stories.

Nope.  I like a good open-world game just fine, but I'm fine with more linear gameplay.  I feel like I miss out on more in open-world games since I generally try to keep the narrative moving forward and don't want to bog down too much with side quests and talking to every single person in town.  I'll take a strong linear narrative over an open-world over seeing every bit of content and getting trophies most any time.

It all really comes down to game design.  I mean, Red Dead Redemption or Breath of the Wild would be good games regardless of which console they were designed for or if they're open-world or not.  I feel like that, as processing power increases, we're going to get more poorly designed open-world games that are too big and  feature huge worlds you wander around endlessly for no other reason than the console could accommodate that kind of world design.  I really don't want to spend 110 hours on Bubsy's Red Dead 3D Redemption on the PS5.  I feel like we got too many open-world games on the PS4 but fortunately it was fairly easy to figure out which ones were worth our time.
