  1. At this point, I feel like buying a new console any time soon is a little silly.  Game developers are kinda talking in hushed tones about how release dates are going to be affected at least through the end of 2021 and beyond.  I don't have a lot of confidence that the game library for the PS5 or Xbox Series X after 12 or 24 months is going to stack up to the PS4 or Xbox One libraries after the same amount of time on the market.  There may still be a game or sale that gets me to buy a next gen console soon after launch, but at this point, I feel like it would tale a lot.

That said, it was fairly obvious from the last Microsoft presentation and what the developers have said since that Halo Infinite was nowhere near ready

At  this point, my most eagerly anticipated game that I hope might come out before the end of 2020 is probably the Last Campfire.    Sigh.  It'll probably end up being held back to be a PS5 exclusive.

They were both down on their luck and had a backstage segment where it seemed like they may form an alliance.  This was several weeks ago, I think this might be the first follow up to that.

So I guess Vince just saw Romy and Michele's High School Reunion?

In a related story from the weather bureau, Hell just froze over.

Eh, Eccleston returning to Dr. Who isn't even going to make the top 20 signs of the apocalypse in 2020.

Does Big Finish pay that well or is Eccleston wanting to buy a boat while his movie projects are in limbo?  The little I've read about him over the years made it sound like he wanted nothing to do with Dr. Who.

  4. I guess I''m the only person who hoped the Dominic beatdown was Seth's face turn.  Dom hasn't shown me anything yet that makes me want to watch.  Imo, he lacks a good look and the "it" factor his dad has.  Can't comment on his ringwork.  yet.

First full show I've watched since Feb or early March.  Thought it was kinda poor despite a few good segments.  Shane's fight club doesn't do it for me and it seems like the sort of thing Vince will lose interest in quickly.  RETRIBUTION is already a channel changer.  Not sure what to make of the ninjas.

I guess I missed a Natayla heel turn that would explain why she and Lana are dressing like twins?

    About that...

Lol, like there's going to be a 2021....

It's probably just as well that I'm not too excited by the Triple A release schedule for the rest of the year.  There are a number of games I'll pick up, but I'm not too excited for AC: Valhalla, Avengers, Cyberpunk, etc.  There's a good chance I don't pick Avengers or Cyberpunk until next year or later.

I'm sure there will be a lot of good games, but I don't see a lot on the release schedule that's a week one must-buy.  I'm probably most excite for... uh.... Spelunky 2?

I laugh when I see 2021 release dates.  You might as well promise a pony and a PS6 while you're at it.

  6. Not really news, per se, but DC Universe laid off almost all of it's staff yesterday.

Forbes' article said the original shows are expected to continue, but will find a new home, presumably HBO Max.

Not at all surprising.  Stargirl was already announced as jumping to the CW.  Harley Quinn and Doom Patrol were co-streamed on Max.   Titans and the new season of Young Justice was already rumored to be heading that way.

On another note, is Titans worth watching?  I never subscribed to DC Universe, so I've never seen it.  Thought I saw it on Netflix the other day and thought I might dive into it.

  7. Time for another reboot!  And a new crisis!  DC's mot popular heroes united to.... uh..... breach the fourth wall to help laid off staffers polish resumes and take meeting with corporate recruiters.

At this point, it really does feel like it's only a matter of time until DC either moves to a digital-only model or simply shuts down all together and Warner just retains the rights to characters for licensing purposes.  Probably the latter

  8. To me, Retribution seems more like a z-grade retread of SAni†Y than Nexus.  I guess it depends who's under the masks.  They do look kinda tiny.  The WWE's statement (before the debuted) about the angle not being a political statement makes me think they'll ham-fistedly try to inject some sort of pseudo-BLM relevance into the angle and enrage nearly everyone.

I'm already kinda bored by them, to be honest.  Not really the sort of thing that's going to get me to watch a crowdless show.  It is amusing that apparently WWE only employs security at arena shows with crowds.  Good to know.

  9. Here's the video.  Sony started late.  The actual presentation doesn't start until the 10:00 mark with Crash Bandicoot footage. (lol, this version edits out most of the dead air edited.  I think the actual livestream started at 4:40 EST instead of 4:00).

Basically, Hitman VR, the new Crash game and a number of indie games.  Last ten minutes or so are an extended look at Godfall.  Several games were just announced for PS5.  At least one of the indie games apparently will be released for PS4 and PS5.

A couple release dates announced.  Spelunky 2 and one or two others.  The Star Wars Vader VR game is coming out this month.  Most games were announced for Holidays 2020 or 2021.

Slate looked good but not great to me.  Was really looking forward to the Pathless but it looks like it will be a PS5 exclusive and right now I'm not planning on buying a PS5 right away.

Crash Bandicoot looks a lot like Jak and Daxter to me.  I like J&D a lot, but it's not what I want from Crash.  Art style just looked charmless to me.  Did the PS2 games look like that?   I wisely stopped paying attention to Crash after the original PS1 trilogy.  Anyway, Crash looked.... really busy.  I'll probably pass unless reviews are really great.  There's no shortage of PS4 indie platformers out there.

I always loved the improbable Los Conquistadors run.  Like a 13 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Same here.  I assume the Conquistadors run had something to do with the double turn?  They didn't want the Powers of Pain squashing another heel team five minutes after they turned?

The tag team elimination match the year before had the Killer Bees and the Young Stallions both surviving the match.  Last three teams were Bees, Stallions, heel Islanders.  Teams that didn't make it to the end included Demolition, Hart Foundation, Dream Team, Strike Force.  Way to give the fans what they wanted, Vince.

That match also had an absurd finish, even by early Survivor Series standards.  Killer Bees wrestled unmasked for about 35 min, then put on the masks and did the "ref can't tell them apart" thing like 60 second later.

Actually, early SS matches had a lot of odd finishers and headscratching dq's.  Watched Survivor Series 94 last night.  Diesel murders Razor Ramon's team by his lonesome to give his team a 5-1 advantage, then has enough of HBK's bs and turns on Shawn.  Eventually chases Shawn down the ramp while Shawn is the legal man,.  So naturally, the ref.... counts the entire team out and gives the win to Razor.  They had done similar countouts in years past and only the legal man who didn't get back in for the 20 count was dq'ed.

Not an Indy game, but there’s always Okami.

Lol, I have 8-10 editions of Okami around (PS2 NA, PS2 Korean edition that supported English, Wii NA, PS3 Asia release, 2 different PS3 Japan e-Capcom limited editions, PS4 Japan limited edition, Switch JP limited edition + PS3 NA digital copy).  One my personal favorites.  I'm a big Kamiya fan.

Never Alone has you playing half the time as an Arctic fox.

Shelter 1 & 2 have you playing as a mother badger & lynx respectively

I think Never Alone is kinda underrated.  Reviews were really polarizing.  Some reviewers really loved it.  A lot didn't get into it at all.  I loved it.

    I'll check out Shelter,

  12. Here's an odd question: can anyone recommend a few indie games that allow you to play as animal?  Particularly dog, fox, wolf, deer, etc?

I'm currently playing Spirit of the North and am looking for games like that: action-adventures or walking sims starring an animal.  I know there's a lengthy list of platformers starring anthropormorphic animals, plus various fighting games, Starfox, etc.  Can anyone think of PC/PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Switch adventures in that vein.

I've already played Tokyo Jungle, Never Alone and the First Tree.  Playing Spirit of the North now.  Downloaded Lost Ember and Ghost of a Tail a few days ago and will play them soonish.  Any other recommendations?  Thanks.

If PSVita games are in PS3 store on the console, that means you can transfer the games to a PSVita with a cable connected to it. You won't be able to play them on PS3, just transfer them to your PSVita.

There's quite a few PS1 Classics playable on Vita and PSP on Vita games that only show up in the PS3 store (Valkyria Chronicles II for example).

That reminds me -- I still have to Platinum ModNation Racers: Road Trip, Danganronpa, Severed, Wipeout 2048, and LittleBigPlanet Vita.

Thanks.  Figured it was something like that.  I didn't really expect to be able to play Vita games on my PS3 but I was hoping.  Guess I'll have to get a memory card for PS TV.

One more question: Is there any advantage/drawback to leaving the PS4 connected to the internet when I'm not using the console for internet.  Right now, I have the option to stay connected all the time checked, but I don't use the PS4 on when I'm not using it and I don't have any of the auto update options enabled.  Basically I only use the internet to browse the PSN Store and to download games/updates/patches.  We don't use the mutlimedia functions on the game consoles or the web browser.  Also don't play online much.  I do know there are a few games that require a constant internet connection even to use "offline" modes, but that's a small handful.

I've been playing more in the evening lately.  My wife is wondering if it's slowing down the rest of the devices connected to the wireless network.  Our wi-fi usage in the evening is considerable.  I don't really have any advantage to just turning on the "connect to internet" setting when I'm ready to use PSN or check for an update.  Just curious if that's necessary/advisable.

    Thanks.

  14. This sounds like a bad idea in the making....

NEW FACTION TO ARRIVE ON WWE RAW

WWE hyped the arrival of the new faction prior to tonight's show airing and wrote that they'll be out to cause chaos and shake up the organization's structure:

WWE.com has learned that a new faction is arriving on Raw tonight.

The Superstars comprising this faction have yet to be revealed, but rumblings around the WWE Performance Center say that the group is out to cause chaos and shake up the organization's structure.

What does this alliance have in store for the red brand? Find out tonight on Raw at 8/7 C on USA!

Pro Wrestling Sheet wrote that their sources told them "this storyline is specific to WWE and NOT intended to be political."

So.... I'm guessing either babyface MAGA faction, or babyface BLM faction that debuts as babyfaces and turns heel by the early September (aka the New Day playbook).  Of course, Vince is basically tone deaf so maybe it will be a BLM faction that debut as heels.

I really kinda hope it's a BLM faction made up entirely of Shane and some aging white midcarders.  Just for the hilarity.  Sheamus isn't doing much right now, is he?

  15. Got a noobish PSN question (since I'm just getting into digital gaming).  When I access PSN from my PS4 and look at the PS4 store, a few Vita and PS3 games are listed for purchase, but it seems to be only games that support crossbuy.  Hotline Miami, for example.

But...when I access the PS3 store from the PS3 console, several hundred Vita games are listed for purchase.  Most of these games are not crossbuy/crossplay and a lot of them require the Vita touch controls so probably couldn't be played on PS3 anyway.  Examples are Rose in the Twilight and Nihilumbra, which were released for PS Vita but not PS3 or PS4.

I'm confused about why these games are listed.  If I purchase them from the PS3 store, can I actually play them on PS3?  I'm assuming not, but I don't know why they are showing up.  Is there any reason to purchase them through the PS3 store?

I don't own a Vita right now.  I used to, but I don't really get into handheld gaming, so when my Vita broke, I never replaced it.  I do own PS TV, which plays the majority of the Vita catalog and gets far more use in my house than the Vita.  Haven't hooked it up since I started checking out digital gaming, but I will eventually.

Wish I had gotten into digital gaming sooner.  Probably won't replace physical copies for me in most instances, but there are a lot of good digital titles out there I've never played.

Fun fact: I've never tried to use my Switch undocked, even just to make sure it works properly undocked.

    Thanks.

What's with the ninjas?  I assume Vince just thinks all Japanese people know ninjas.

Oh yeah, I don't believe in stealth in this game.

Walking into a camp, calling out their best soldier, striking him down, and then murking guys one by one until you stab the leader of the camp in the neck is the best.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that new Paper Mario is alright too.

Lol, I keep wanting to play stealthily, but, yeah, it's so much more fun to brute force your way through encounters.  All that's missing is Jin giving some sort of "I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills.Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you" speech.  In Japanese, of course.

Tsushima would easily be my game of the year if the story wasn't so perfunctory.  Everything else is outstanding.  Hell, it still might be my GotY when all is said and done.

The PS Store runs like flaming shit on the Consoles itself, always has, although it's *slightly* better on the 4 than it was on the 3.  I'd recommend doing your shopping on the website then downloading it from your Library on the console (because the automatic "queue" feature on teh website doesn't always work).

Ok, how does this work?   'Cause, on general principle, I'd prefer to search for new and interesting games while watching tv or whatever.  Also, the store's been more stable for me on pc, ipad, and phone than the PS4.

So I sign into my PSN account from my PC, surf the storefront, then buy a game and process the payment.  Then what?  Does the game start downloading as soon as I log into my account from the PS4, or do I have to go somewhere to start the download?  Where do I look for the download link?  In the PS4 library (since that was mentioned above)?  How do I know if the auto queue function has started the download or not?

Sorry.  I know these are noob questions, especially for someone who has owned since 2014.  <Shrug> Until I decided to start checking out digital exclusives last week, I was almost strictly a physical media guy.  I also very rarely check out online play or use the PS4 as anything except a games machine (I don't use the multimedia functions or apps/web browser/etc.  Plenty of other toys for those activities.)

    Thanks.

  19. Got a question about the PSN Store.  I've had an account for years, but never really used it (literally a couple times before last week).  Been doing a deep dive into digital gaming, so I've been going to the store quite a bit lately, looking for digital exclusives I'm not familiar with and might want to research/play.

The store crashes on my periodically.  Sometimes I get a "content not available" error.  Usually, just half the images on the page load or something like that.  Sometimes I just wait it out, sometimes I reboot and everything is fine.  Is this normal?  Far as I can tell, nothing odd is going on with my internet connection or PS4 console otherwise.

I've tried the PSN store from my PS3 and it seems mostly stable, but not entirely.  Also used Xbox Live in the past few days without incident.  I'm wondering if its the server on something on my end.  Too many people trying to use the story maybe?

    Any ideas or suggestions?
