  1. Vince didn’t manipulate the market so much as correctly predict how it would behave and use that to his advantage.  It seems likely he leaked the info the WSJ printed on Thursday, “knowing” that it would send the stock price higher and mute any criticism about his return.  Going public about his plan to return also puts the board in an awkward solution, since it gives Vince leeway to point at the stock price and ask why the board isn’t doing what’s best for business.

I know internet fans tend to assume Vince is a buffoon who isn’t as smart as they are, but Vince really is a smart, shrewd businessman who surrounds himself with smarter people (I think it’s fair to say he doesn’t always listen to advice from those smarter people).  I’m mostly impressed by how he engineered his unlikely return.

  2. My feeling is, if you’re going to play at a neutral site, it should be somewhere that mimics the weather conditions of the teams’ home stadiums in January.  Does anyone want to see a January Bills- Chiefs game played in a dome?  Or in a warm weather climate?

Send them to Green Bay or some such.

So yesterday Jadeveon Clowney gave an interview in which he said he wouldn't return to the Browns next year because he "needed to be around someone who believed in him"

Well today, the Browns told him to go fuck himself and sent him home from practice and his status for Sunday is now in doubt (most likely he won't be playing)

Lot easier for management to grow a spine when you’re out of the playoffs.

  4. Sites are saying Vince, Barrios and Wilson are officially back on the board of directors.  Three board members were removed to make room for the nWo the new board members.  Two other board members resigned effective today.  So, yay, room for two more Vince cronies.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/wwe-confirms-vince-mcmahon-rejoining-board-stock-spikes-rcna64639

WWE stock price up 22 percent as of 11:15.

I guess we’ll get two Bloodline feuds at WrestleMania.  Steph really needs to win the Royal Rumble unless she wants to be relocated to the WWE’s new office in Antarctica.

i’m not surprised Vince is back.  I am surprised it’s happening this quickly. When the story broke yesterday, I figured Vince would get back in by… Spring?  I thought the board and CEO would find some way to stall, then there would be a bit of a power struggle or maybe a lawsuit.  Didn’t think the situation would seemingly resolve itself in twelve hours.  That makes me wonder if Vince’s people leaked the news to the Journal to spur stock price in overnight trading.

  5. Honestly, I think Vince trying to get back in is about the most interesting thing that could happen.  I’m very curious to see how this goes from a business standpoint,  my first question is, does Vince really plan to sell the company or is that just his raison d'être  for trying to regain control?  What happens to Paul and Stephanie if he regains control?  Paul continues to run creative, Stephanie shuttled to a vp position?  They leave the company entirely?  I tend to think Paul and Steph have at least some involvement with the leaks to the WSJ, assuming they aren’t feeding the information directly.

I can see why Vince regaining control of creative might unnerve some fans and talent, but, eh, no opinion on that here.  Not sure I have any more or less interest if it’s Paul in charge, Vince in charge, TK in charge, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy, etc.  All the same to me.

i wasn’t planing on watching much (any?) wrestling this year past Wrestle Kingdom but WWE 2: Wrath of Vince (and maybe Khan) might keep me invested for awhile.  Anyone got popcorn?

Now i’m really curious about where Nick Khan’s loyalties lie.

  6. I think an internal SSD is a must.  Unless you just don’t buy many games, I don’t know how you wouldn’t run short of space.  Honestly, I feel thwt way even with 2 tb SSD’s installed in both Series X and PS5.  Both systems also have external hard drives plugged in to give me another 6, 8 tb each.  I’ll need that space eventually, especially on Xbox where I buy most of my multiplatform games and have large X360 and Xbox One libraries.

Actually, one of the Series X’s selling points for me is that you can have more than one USB drive plugged in.  Unless it’s been changed by a recent update, the PS5 only lets you use one USB drive.  I probably won’t fill all my PS5 storage in 3, 4 years and need a second usb drive, but I could imagine doing it if if PS5 was the only system I own or was my go-to for third-party games.

Lol, that’s something else I do not understand about console warriors. Seems like you’re really limiting your space options if you buy everything for one console.  Lot easier to spread files around, especially if you don’t want to/can’t afford to keep buying more memory (My SSD ran me $400 apiece, think i paid around $150-$200 for each of the USB drives.).

  7. I would probably have stick with the show if i’d

    • Match 8 of 9: Jumbo Tsuruta (c) vs Nick Bockwinkel 3/24/84 AJPW: This was another really good one, driven by the fact that Bockwinkel, as the challenger, controlled a lot of it. That meant headlocks to begin, but the best headlocks imaginable. When it seemed like Jumbo might get out, a hairpull, when Jumbo overcame that, he hit a drop toehold and really locked in a deep scissored toehold. When the fans would chant for Jumbo, Bock would grind it more and Jumbo would sell huge. When Jumbo turned over his own headlock out of it, Bock was able to turn it around for a shinbreaker and a leglock. When Jumbo made it to the ropes, Bock switched to attacking the leg and starting a king of the mountain. I just love that from a narrative perspective. Bock put him in trouble and Jumbo worked so hard to get out only to get immediately stymied by something else and the work began anew.

Anyway, Jumbo fought his way back in and even got the jumping knee, but Bock was basically fresh and got out at one. From there, Jumbo was just trying to contain Bock, and he couldn't do it. Bock floated over and started going for the figure four. This was real Clash of Titans stuff, with Jumbo pressing his arms up to try to prevent the leg from dropping down. Bock eventually got it though. Just amazing overhead visuals on this struggle and then the hold. Jumbo made it to the ropes and Bock started slamming his leg against the apron brutally. Back in the ring, Jumbo comes back with a leg caught enzuigiri to a huge pop and he's back in the fight. Butterfly suplex, two count. Pile driver, two count.

The leg selling is gone by the way which is a shame. Jumbo could have used it to let Bock take back over, for instance. Instead, Bock just fights from underneath, hitting a pile driver of his own. What I love is that before he picks him up for it, he just turns his head ever so slightly to take in the crowd; he's always so in the moment. It's a tiny thing but it's everpresent in his work. They crash into each other and then do a double punch (Bock hits a belly to back out of a headlock in the middle). Bock tries for another King of the Mountain but Jumbo storms in with chops. This is pissed off angry proto-Gladiator Jumbo, a very different entity than a few years earlier even if he wasn't who he'd be a few years later. Bock knows he's in trouble, so he tosses him into the ref and hits a belt shot on the outside. Jumbo recovers though, charging in, tossing Bock out, and going for belt shots of his own. When the ref gets in the way, Jumbo nails him too, the seed of violence already taking root. Post match, they brawl repeatedly with people trying to separate them, Bock gets big cheers from the crowd, and Jumbo cuts a promo about defending in the US. He had defended against Lanza, Robinson, and Brunzell the first round and in the second, he'd even face Baron Von Raschke (We don't have that one unfortunately), before falling to Martel. I really liked these two Bock-As-Challenger matches, though I probably liked the last one a bit more. This one had the first inklings of really violent Jumbo though.

I would probably have stuck with the show if I’d known Bock and Jumbo Tsuruta were on it.

  8. Say an article this morning where an epidemiologist said that, if you're wearing a mask post-vaccination, you're doing it out of solidarity or symbolism (his words, not mine).  Not doing you a lot of good medically.

I'm not really expecting every business to drop mandates immediately (but I can hope).  It'll be interesting to see what our governor does.  He's been rather proactive on erring on the side of public health, but he already promised to drop the mask mandate next month.

  9. If anyone knows of a site still selling unused digital codes for Super Mario 3D All-Stars, let me know.  Thought I bought the game before it was delisted, but apparently not.  Physical copies are still easy to come by, so I bought the physical edition yesterday, but no one has unused codes (codes can still be redeemed even though the game was removed from the eshop).  Figured I might at least find a few on eBay at a markup, but no such luck.

Got a good laugh when I realized I wasn't sure where the cartridge slot was.  I bought my first Switch around August 2017 but never needed to insert a cartridge until now.  SM3DAS is my first (and hopefully only) physical Switch game.

  10. Back in Feb, Experiment 101's creative director assured everyone that the game would be playable on Series X and PS5.  But nothing concrete has been announced by the studio and his comments were vague enough that he may have just meant the game ran fine via backwards compatibility.  Supposedly, performance will be improved on current gen systems even without optimization.

I'm not too fussed about a Series X patch so long as it looks good and runs well.  Everything I've heard or read about it lately has been extremely positive, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

  11. I feel like there's a fair chance Good & Evil 2 eventually sees the light of day, since there's a decent-sized audience waiting for it.

    Wild, on the other hand.....

Given a choice, I'd much rather have Wild.

Edit: The good news is that Ubisoft reiterated yesterday that Far Cry 6 and the Sands of Time remake are still expected to release later in 2021.

Did the NWA really announce Thunder Rosa in an "If you lose, you can't wrestle in other promotions any more" match?

    Yes.

The stip is ridiculous.  There should be a zero percent chance that Rosa would agree to give up AEW and her outside gigs, even in kayfabe.  So, naturally I expect her to lose.

Could be some comedy in in it if she shows up in AEW under a mask and bills herself as Red River Jacqueline.

I wish they'd come to this conclusion and decided to film some shows at the Grand Canyon instead

I can't wait for the cinematic match where someone is thrown to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Of course, they'll be off tv for less than 24 hrs,. then appear on Raw the next night with a small bandage on their forehead to sell the 6,000 foot drop.  Realism!

  14. Meltzer says that AEW still has big plans for Jungle Boy, but is holding off pulling the trigger until crowds return.

That seems to be the AEW mentality in general: holding pattern in the hopes that they can resume shows with crowds soon.  I dunno.  Pushing a 45-year-old Jungle Boy doesn't seem that exciting to me.

  15. So many botches.  I’m dying every time I watch this.

    Spoiler

I've seen this match a couple times over the years and never noticed until today that Sherri botched the briefcase shot at the end.  She's supposed to hit the turnbuckle when Debra ducks, then have the briefcase recoil back and smack her in the face.  Instead, she grazed the turbuckle, hit Debra on the way down, and sold the briefcase even though it came nowhere near hitting her.

Vince would have a stroke if this was on his show.  They botch a spot pretty much every time they touch the briefcase.

I do wonder if Sherri was supposed to clock Mongo, or if he was going to no-sell the shot anyway.

  16. Got a question.  I was browsing the Nintendo eshop for old-school Nintendo games and I noticed that a lot of classic Nintendo exclusives appear to be available on the Wii U eshop, but not the Switch's.  I'm talking about the Rare Donkey Kong Country trilogy, a lot of the older Metroid games (Metroid, Super, the DS games), Sin an Punishment, Super Mario 64 (?!) as well as the NES and SNES Super Mario titles, and most of the older Legend of Zelda games, including Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

Have these seriously not been ported to the Switch eShop or am I missing something?  Is there a reason for this?  It seems like making Majora's Mask and Super Mario 64 available on the Wii would be a no-brainer.

Sony has said that the PS4 is backwards compatible with PS5 so I feel like it won't be too hard (if Sony keeps the Library function for PS5). But PS3 PSN games I think will be difficult if not impossible for whatever reason. They've been surprisingly quiet on digital downloads being backwards compatible.

Sony's said contradictory things about backwards compatibility. Based on their latest cryptic rumblings, it seems like most/all PS4 games should work on the PS5, but a few people I've talked to thing Sony will whitelist games so that only games Sony's staff has had time to test will work on PS5.

Last thing I remember them specifically promising was that the 100 most popular PS4 titles will be backwards compatible at launch.  They inferred the number would be much higher than that, didn't specifically say that.

My physical Sony library is heavy on imports and indie games from Limited Run and such.  And I'm going to end up with a good sized digital indie library by year's end.  I'm not counting too heavily on small indie games being whitelisted any time soon, if they go that route.  The PS TV fiasco kinda soured me on that idea.  The PlayStation TV should have been fully compatible with the Vita catalog but never was.   Basically, most games which relied heavily on the Vita motion controls were not whitelisted.  That's fine on the face of it, but there were a lot of games that had support for the standard controller patched in so it could be done.  More annoyingly, there were a lot of games which were designed to accomodate a standard control scheme but still never got whitelisted because.... Sony never bothered to make them compatible.

If they do go the whitelist route, I'm skeptical they are going to put in the effort to make 5,000+ PS4 titles compatible.  And, with PS TY, you also got into the digital/physical issue.  Some digital games were compatible with PSTV, but their physical counterparts are not.  PS TV compatibility is a mess to sort out.

Well apparently the deal includes a development deal and work both on screen and behind the scenes, so it reads more like trying to expand reach for her (say adding producer credits, etc..)

    That makes more sense.

Looking at her Wikipedia entry, it looks like she's gotten a decent bit of work the past few years, albeit not in shows that were likely to make her a bigger star or land her a steady paycheck.  She's apparently landing some smaller supporting roles in films and was cast in a couple shows on channels I don't follow (Starz, History Channel specifically).
