She’s so obviously tuned out and going through the motions that I can’t tell if they are doing a subtle Clubber Lang build with Becky or not.

That's what I assumed was the plan up through Elimination Chamber with her wearing increasingly outlandish costumes and becoming ever more arrogant, but then her promo the night after (the one calling Shayna a "black hole of charisma") acted like that routine was just "treading water" filler material and she was being serious again, so its hard to say at this point what her character is in this storyline.

I was more thinking of EA Backstage Assault, so now you're all going to have to think about it too. Muahahahaha.

But seriously, although it's dreadful for the Wrestlemania weekend shenanigans - WWE and AEW should be better placed than many sports to manage this creatively.

Yes, though they also have some extra challenges due to pro wrestling's narrative nature. Its not like being able to reschedule a game later in the season or postponing a concert until further notice, its not just a delay but also affects the broader stories. Whatever happens from here, WWE and other federations (who will probably be the real sufferers financially) have difficult decisions ahead.

What makes Shayna's push here even odder is when you consider that part of her being so dominant in NXT was also her being willing to take shortcuts. She was a dangerous badass, but she also narrowly escaped losing her title multiple times by using the other Horsewomen. She was not a Brock level monster or anything. I'm not sure why they think that is the way to go now.

My favourite iteration of Shayna in NXT was before she started having to use Marina and Jessamyn for ineffectual run-ins, and I hope they don't become part of her main roster work any time soon. As a character she's good enough at projecting herself as an unlikable and vicious heel on her own. As for the main event, I thought it was logically booked even if two pauses was odd--Becky's obnoxiously overconfident character makes a lot more sense if Shayna's a monster and she's overlooking the threat, and there wasn't any suspense going into the match anyway so may as well make Shayna look as strong as possible. Plus it wasn't only tapouts, as shown by her brutality towards Liv and Natalya. The only thing for me is it made the decision to have her go back and forth with Kairi on Raw for 12 minutes even more mystifying, tonight would have felt even more impactful if that had been a quick and dominant win too.

Also, the decision to have Charlotte win the Rumble and challenge Rhea was also a way of elevating NXT by showing it as important enough to be the target of a Rumble winner's challenge. Even if it had been played the way some are advocating with her just randomly showing up on NXT TV and calling Rhea out, I have a feeling people would have disliked it anyway--see for reference the fans who were initially paranoid about her beating Bayley at Summerslam and then angered by her challenging Trish instead even though it ended up being a very good match. (There's also room for a feud between her and Shayna post-Mania, calling back to the end of the Rumble, assuming Shayna and Rhea both win at Mania.)

Was Ruby really so good in the indies because she has shown nothing hinting towards that level of talent in WWE or NXT.

She has good chemistry with Charlotte, judging from their 2018 Fastlane match and then having a surprisingly strong 85-second Beat the Clock match on Raw last year.

Look how smooth that was by Asuka.

Swank! It’s nice to see how much her and Charlotte trust each other and how there’s always something different in their matches.

Also thought Becky’s ultra-arrogant promo was interesting. Feels like she’s being set up to take a fall soon, perhaps from Shayna.

I think the going opinion is that the royal rumble champions are going to be Rousey and Reigns.   I mean seriously they just announced a new shirt for Rousey on their site.   And given that Reigns has been having to babysit Baron Corbin for almost 4 months he deserves it

It was a shirt from last year. That said, I’m sure there will be a lot of speculation until the match ends.

    Men's Rumble:

Most Eliminations: Lesnar. I see him throwing out 7 or 8 of the first 10 people to come in before he hits a brick wall in Cain/Roman.

Iron Man: Mustafa Ali. Comes in around #5 and makes the final four. We get some interaction between he and Kofi after what happened 12 months ago.

Final 4: Roman Reigns, Keith Lee, Mustafa Ali & Kofi Kingston.

Winner: Kingston. He is then torn between avenging his loss to Brock, leaving SDL and the New Day in the process, or having to face up to THE FIEND

    Women's Rumble:

Most Eliminations: Charlotte Flair. This will be her noted stat for 2020. I can even see her breaking the men's record and throwing half the other women out.

Iron Man: Sasha Banks. This is her thing with these matches so let it keep rolling. Charlotte can enter half way while the ring is full and dump out 10 people quickly but Sasha is in the first 4 and makes it to the end.

Final 4: Flair, Banks, Baszler & Alexa Bliss

Winner: Shayna Baszler. She is, arguably, the best wrestler on the roster right now. Her attention to detail is brilliant and her development and growth have been beyond all possible imagination. She faces Becky at Mania to "do what Ronda couldn't" planting the seeds for Rousey to return post Mania for some involvement.

I can understand them running Becky/Shayna, but that underwhelming Survivor Series match lowered my expectations quite a bit.

I'm happy they haven't made those characters a response to the 2016 election. The Americans lucked into it by being a show about Russian spies that started a few years too early, and even they never steered into the skid. I know we shouldn't hold wrestling to too high a standard, but fuck all of that. We already have enough lazy "art" about Trump and Putin. I don't need it in my wrestling.

The Americans was also brilliant and multi-faceted. On the whole I think WWE has done well in not incorporating political themes into their storylines in recent years, their past record shows that its  generally very tacky when they do.
