Sad to see TNA falling apart after 2016 was my second favorite year ever of TNA behind 2012. Wish we could've continued ahead with Impact led by Billy as it was instead.

Obviously the Hardys were the best act in the company and Drew is one of my all time favs who was a real highlight the past couple years. But I also thought Bennett and Maria added a lot to the show, even if they were sometimes on the show too much. Really enjoyed Bennett's last year in the ring, great heel for Impact.

I wouldn't say they're falling apart-- business wise they're in a lot better shape with Anthem.

I'm just not sold on Jarrett or Mantell. Anthem ownership with Corgan as head of creative would have been a better set up.

That is what I said. It is easier to not have creative control in WWE. They pay more and provide a bigger stage.

With TNA the money and exposure are worse  So creative fulfillment would need to be a part of the deal.

The Hardys would probably be most valuable to WWE in NXT. It would be a big boost to them as a touring brand.

    Gotcha, sorry, must've misread it.

  3. As much as it sucks to see them go, the bright side is that it will free up a bunch of money that Jarrett can use to go after new talent, which he's shown an ability to do.

Is it a loss? Absolutely. And the incompetence is typical TNA.

But the Hardys are in their 40's and would be valuable for another year TOPS. If they use the money to build a foundation of younger guys, it won't be a complete loss.

Its interesting that Jarrett is going in a completely opposite direction than Corgan would have. Corgan was on record that he sees the business going in direction where talent has a lot more control and truly are independent contractors. Jeff Jarrett, son of Jerry Jarrett from Tenneseee, is far from that line of thinking.

I could see them going to WWE under a Lesnar/Jericho/Taker type deal. More a 'special attraction' idea, have a run for a few months then disappear for awhile and go back to the indies to refresh/make extra money before returning the next time they are needed. I think if the act was on every Monday for months it would get stale anyway.

Thing is, if creative control was one of the big contention points, why would they go to WWE where they're guaranteed not to have creative control.

The buck has to stop someplace. The reality is the company got into a dire position and she was CEO. There was never any question [she wouldn’t be involved in the day-to-day operations], but not out of any particular animosity. If we’re going to invest...we’re owner-operators, we’re not passive investors. If we’re going to own it, we’re going to own it.

Also, they've announced taping dates through August. Looks like they're sticking with 3-4 day taping scheduled, with most being single day tapings. That's encouraging.

Absent from the taping schedule is dates for May/June so it looks like they might go on the road for those. Maybe those TV's will be taped in India.

So, THAT is the character that Arron Rex wanted to do in WWE?!  I guess Vince isn't completely out of touch yet if he put the kibosh on that.  Yeesh!

So, was the whole DCC attacks Tyrus and Drake thing just an excuse to turn Tyrus face?  I feel like there was an either way of doing that?!

Maybe I'm a little too fastforward-happy but why can't Braxton Sutter say "No I'm not dating her" to Maria?  Is Maria threatening to fire Allie if he doesn't date LVN?  Can Allie really fire anybody if it's been established she is no longer in power? This whole thing makes Braxton look like the wimpiest doofus in pro wrestling.  I realize how much ground that covers.

I don't have a huge problem with the Braxton thing since its obvious that she's black mailing him with something to get him to date LVN.

Now if you were to call him a doofus for NOT wanting to get with LVN, I'd agree.

It was first reported by Ryan Satin at Pro Wrestling Sheetthat Scott D’Amore has been hired by TNA and will have a number of roles within the company.

The LAW has confirmed D’Amore’s return to the company and was the facilitator on TNA’s behalf to strike a working relationship with Pro Wrestling NOAH.  The announcement had been made early Tuesday morning by NOAH president Masayuki Uchida of the relationship and that there would be TNA involvement on NOAH’s upcoming event in Yokohama on March 12th.

NOAH has gone through many hardships as the fledgling promotion is now under new ownership. This has resulted in New Japan Pro Wrestling removing their talent (primarily Suzuki-gun) from NOAH and re-introducing them earlier this year at the New Year Dash event in January.

We can also add that there is a plan of having talent exchanges with younger talent being able to come from Japan and be booked on independent shows in the U.S. and Canada to gain experience and sending talent of their own to Japan and working with NOAH.

D’Amore is currently in Nashville and met with Anthem executives on Tuesday.  He also has sat in on some booking meetings and is expected to have a role within the booking committee. The next set of television tapings begin March 3rd and will also be the first tapings since Dutch Mantel returned to TNA.

D’Amore and Jeff Jarrett are still part of Global Force Wrestling, which has shot episodes and been shopping the promotion around for a potential television deal.

D’Amore began with TNA in 2003 and would wear a number of hats, including his role as lead booker after the departure of Dusty Rhodes. The booking under D’Amore saw the promotion launch on Spike TV in October 2005 with a heavy focus on the X division and later served as the key agent during the launch of the Knockout’s division in the fall of 2007.

Guys...guys...I have to ask.  Do you think Russo is back involved in this? It feels like there is no consistency whatsoever.  Guys turn from week to week, turn back, act heelish or faceish depending on what feud they want to shoehorn them in with.  It reminds me a lot of Russo's shades of grey booking.

I doubt it. With Russo, at least there's shit actually happening on the show. There's usually a running thread from beginning to end. Whether its good or makes any sense, its at least there. With this, they're just throwing matches out there and trying to build characters that they don't know how to build.

I think its two things-- lack of Corgan and a booking team in transition. This entire set of tapings was basically a transition to March so I'm cautiously optimistic that Dutch can give it some more direction. But if they were smart, they'd get rid of Gaburick and bring back Corgan to work with Dutch and Jeff. You have a guy who brings innovation to the product and then you have your old school pro wrestling guys.

Whoever told him and his wife to shout "Ooh!" "Aah!" and "Oof!" after every move was mistaken.  It's so annoying, and they both do it!

Also, I'm unclear on if Pope is supposed to be a heel commentator or a color commentator who sides with either side.  During the DJZ match he was saying he expected DJZ to pull it out.  During the Lashley match, he was all on Lashley's side.

And, man, that got uncomfortable during the X-Division match when Pope jokingly said that Matthews was always looking for shortcuts then Matthews (seemingly really angry) shouts "You take a shortcut every time you get paid by the office every two weeks!" followed by several seconds of silence was kinda great.

LOL that's priceless. I'll have to go back and listen to that. Totally seems like the type of passive aggressive, whiny thing he would say.

He's awful. And the talking over the entrances part is the worst thing. I can't believe a guy who's been in the business for 10+ years, has worked for Vince, doesn't know how to shut his mouth during a quality entrance. And its frustrating because they finally figured out how to get entrances/music right and how important that is to a character, and then you have this asshat blatantly ruining it.

  9. I would like the theme more if Mathews would shut the fuck up so I could hear it.

It just seems like they're supposed to be this anonymous/vigilante type group and non of that has been develop. They're just thrown out into matches and angles like any other wrestlers with the character part not being paid attention to. Idk that guys like Jarrett and Dutch can handle those types of characters.

I do think the stories will be more consistent at the next tapings when the creative isn't in transition anymore.

Eli and Tyrus teamed up for a tag title shot and have been together since.  Eli and EC3 feuded last year over who would get a title shot.  So at the end of it all EC3 won and Eli had to shutup for the rest of the year.  So this is basically them having a match because there's still bad blood between them.

I fell asleep before the end so I don't recall if DCC came out.  But man did they lose whatever cool factor they had.  Even in beating Decay they're now a couple random guys teaming up for some reason.  Either go full Anonymous or come up with a different tag gimmick.

    That is an awesome typo

The Eli/EC3 stuff makes sense but I think the DCC is just directionless. I hate to keep harping on Corgan, but it just seems like this was partly his brainchild and the people who are writing the show aren't capable of developing those kind of characters.

  11. He was at the last set of tapings when this was filmed. I think the next set of tapings will have more of his finger prints on them.

The thing that scares me about Dutch and Jeff is the over reliance on gimmick matches and schmozz finishes.

One thing I hope happens down the line is Anthem potentially exploring the option of bringing Corgan back in a creative role. He brought a ton of positive, particularly with character development, that are missing now.

  12. Went into this expecting Rosemary/Jade to steal it but Lashley/Edwards was phenomenal and the best thing on the show. Still enjoyed Monster's Ball though and it did a lot to continue getting Rosemary over and planting seeds for the inevitable Gail feud.

Lashley/Edwards though-- they really kicked it into gear the last ten minutes and made it seem special. Also, glad they didn't go with the Davey turn at this point because it would have been too predictable at this point.

You know, I can't help but feel this show has gotten demonstrably worse since the Anthem takeover.  A lot of the guys TNA spent 2016 getting over as top guys/up-and-comers feel like they're getting cut off at the knees or like they've completely lost what made the characters unique.
-Eli Drake not talking anymore, feels like a total "This guy is getting over too much, let's cut off what makes him special" deal  then pair him up and let Tyrus do the talking in order to boost up Tyrus because Tyrus has some small bit of outside wrestling celebrity (He's become a contributor on the Greg Gutfeld show on Fox News).
-Arron Rex morphing into a wrestling comedy heel Rip Taylor character.
-Moose dropping his title so quickly.
-Brooke coming back, dominating another wrestler (Who looked markedly better than her!), then going 50/50 with the supposedly dominant Sienna, who has been built up as the monster of the KO division feels a lot like the Tyrus deal because Brooke has her own reality show.
-The DCC going from spooky guys hacking the TV, to guys upset at TNA for not giving them a chance, to goofy guys cracking jokes on Drake's Talk Show.
-Trevor Lee going from "Technical Savage" to Eugene.

It just feels like most of the characters are going backwards in some way, shape or form, save the Hardyz.  I hope it's not leading to the triumphant return of Jeff Jarrett but it really feels like everyone being knocked down a few pegs so that Jarrett can come in and be regarded as a huge star/saviour.  Honestly, this show is starting to become a chore to watch again.  Like, how did we get back to Brooke shaking her butt all over the ring and Hornswoggle giving people the stinkface from where this show was in Summer 2016?!

    19 hours ago, NikoBaltimore said:

It's hard to argue that.  Silencing Eli is such an egregious call on their part that it's impossible to look past.  DCC is perplexing because they had that cool promo last week only to be goofs last night.  There's no mystique and little to no reason to care.  At least Arron's getup is his own stupid idea.  Apparently he pushed for that in WWE and got shot down.  Moose I can almost understand because it is a returning Drew.  But even that match they could have saved down the line.  Trevor was a buffoon last year too, Total Nonstop Deletion is proof of that.  As for Brooke, Deonna tried her best to make something out of that.  I'm not one to complain about Brooke shaking things, but the rest of it is pretty bad.

To add to the griping, how about Braxton not being allowed to train Allie.  They recently paired up and with little time to establish it they split them (for fear of firing Allie in storyline I guess)  If you're going to do it do that later.

Very much agreed. The problem is they got rid of the integral parts of the last creative team: Corgan and Lagana. Billy in particular brought a tremendously fresh approach and I believe most of last year's positives were because of him.

Really wish Anthem would have retained him and made him head of creative.

So what we're getting now is Gaburick and Conway which explains the negatives. Come March, Dutch and Jarrett will probably take over but I doubt they'll do as good a job as Corgan.
