Not to harp on Raw or SD but with NXT I don't trust WWE to establish gimmicks that won't suck.  Chad Gable didn't need much if any of a gimmick yet on SD he's saddled with some goofy "Shorty G" gimmick.  Or how about Baron Corbin who was really interesting in NXT as Mr. Anti-Indy (the lone wolf vibe before that was neat too)?  Bring him to Raw and he's a constable and on SD he's a king.  It just doesn't feel right and unless proven wrong I'll be sad if they do that with NXT.

Oh, when I say "give people gimmicks" I'm certainly not advocating anything like Shorty G (that gimmick was essentially what made me stop watching RAW and SD week-to-week). I just mean there's a lack of unique character to most of these wrestlers they've thrown out in the last year or two. Why is Damian Priest different from Dominik Dijakovic and why are they both different from Killian Dain? What the fuck is an "Archer of Infamy" and why do they keep saying it? What makes Cameron Grimes different from Austin Theory and why are they both different from Isaiah "Swerve" Scott? What sets Chelsea Green apart from Deonna Purrazzo and Santana Garrett? What do we know about the characters of Bronson Reed, Lio Rush, Angel Garza, Kayden Carter, Dexter Loomis, Shotzi Blackheart, Joaquin Wilde, and KUSHIDA? They can send all these people out trolling for chants and have them do poison ranas and Spanish Flys until they are crippled, but it isn't going to make me care when I can't tell any of them apart. AEW has the same problems with match layouts, but I can at least differentiate the wrestlers from one another (well, except all the damn mall-goth characters.)

Really loved the show.  The tag matches were fantastic stuff and the battle royal ended up being pretty damn good.  No matter what show you watch first the fans win.

Now if only there was a way to get more people to watch both shows so the ratings for NXT weren't as bad.  They have a great thing going and deserve more love in the ratings.  I would love to see how the DVR numbers are as it almost seems like more people catch this on DVR.

AEW has the built-in support of people who want a WWE alternative. Since the USA debut, NXT has essentially been a show with "good" matches (This is subjective - I have hated nearly all of them). Storyline-wise, there's nothing there. They've come close to a breakthrough - Keith Lee challenging for the NXT title and not the worthless NA title was the move - instead it's boring stale Ciampa going against boring stale Cole. If WWE wants people to actually choose NXT over AEW, they're going to have to try harder than to just throw out similar people to have similar matches. The transition of NXT from developmental to super-indie has drained it of all of its fun IMO. Where are all the gimmicks? Everyone is a Talented Indie Wrestler - even Breeze has dropped everything that was ever visually interesting about him.

Also - the majority of people w/ WWE network watch the WWE network for live programming and not these old shows. I know I'm out of the loop on WWE but I am going to hazard a guess and say that Benoit has nothing to do at all with any current storylines in WWE/NXT/NXT UK/205 Live. Unless there are a whole bunch of wrestling fans who were under a rock for several years, didn't have access to the interwebs, or who studiously go through every show in modern wrestling history chronologically, I don't think past storylines being on the network are that important especially when Google and Youtube are right there for further research.

The board is full of people that do this, so if you're trying to sell the idea that it's not important, you might be in the wrong place.

Dumbass, they already go back and  re edit shows for little and legal reasons. All the shows from the past on the network aren't in original form. If you go out of your way to replace copyrighted  licensed music, remove commercial,  edit out certain segments out of every shows, etc., Chris Benoit can be gone from the network.

Poor DDP is on 500 WCW shows from the early 90s till their demise and Self High Five is not on one show on the network. If you're going to that level of trouble to not piss off the folks who own the publishing rights to Smells Like Teen Spirit, erasing a murderer would be slightly more important.?

It isn't about who is or isn't pissed off - the music is edited because it could potentially cost them millions of dollars. Swapping out music also doesn't irreparably alter 12 years of storylines spread across the most popular years in the history of both major companies. There isn't much point in putting old shows up on the network at all if they are restricted to that degree.

We can ban your name, but all your wrestling matches are still going to be intact in our library and on our network because we want to profit off of you.

    What a crock of shit.

Re-edit the shit out of 12 years of wrestling shows or you're a profiteer, despite going very far out of your way not to promote anything about Benoit.

I think the amateur-hour vibe of BTE is kind of the point. It's *supposed to* feel like something a fan might make while goofing around with some friends, a video camera, and some low-budget editing software. Helps to keep Kenny and the Bucks relatable and likable even though they are good-looking jocks... that kind of thing.

"It's supposed to suck" is a progressively worse excuse each time it gets rolled out for a wrestling show. Almost as bad as your part two excuse, "You just don't 'get it.'"

basically my point is, she will do far worse for money than pose with a fan for a pic.

This actually made me think of a pretty valid point. Who do you think gets creepier requests the male wrestlers or the female?  I've seen plenty of crazy female fans that have practically bowled over wrestlers to get pics. I'd think most male fans would be respectful at least at shows.   None of the female wrestlers I know have ever told me of any creepy requests from a male fan, but I've heard crazy things from some of the guy workers.  It may be we don't hear more of the stories because the guys have no need to post them.

They really need to take a few of the newer or ready-for-a-repackage dudes - Joaquin Wilde, Dexter Lumis, Riddick Moss, Kona Reeves - and get them on television as gimmicked teams.

Both Reeves and Moss were on NXT:UK last week - Moss as part of new-to-TV team the Outliers with a renamed Dan Matha.

  9. Yeah, the only reason I see to have a problem with Austin Gunn signing is if he's stinking up the joint and better people in the company aren't getting the same opportunity.

Where is all this Matt Hardy information coming from?

Wiki puts Adam Page at age 28.

I don't think Rhyno has much to offer anymore. At least, not in this type of match.

I'm not sure that he ever really did. Most of the hype surrounding him was Heyman's smoke and mirrors. He basically had one good looking move and worked a bunch of garbage matches.

He was enjoyable as part of the Heath Slater angle before they buried it for getting over.

Ideally Brock wins and goes through all 29 guys.

It'd be a spectacle if nothing else and probably goes a long way toward re-establishing Brock as "not just another guy".

Wait, what? Brock is the only wrestler they haven't treated as just another guy in the last 15 years. They've sacrificed the entire roster to make him look strong for years now.

  12. I understood Dan's post to be about in-ring work because of the examples used: Rock N Rolls, Midnights, Fabs, Fantastics, Rockers. All generally "workrate" teams.

If the conversation is to be expanded to include general stardom, you'd need to include teams that aren't necessarily darlings: Studd/Bundy, Superpowers, Shiek/Volkoff, the aforementioned Demos and LOD

The criteria would also change the discussion completely when it comes to teams like:

Freebirds: Hayes had the charisma, but if we're talking about in-ring work he was easily the worst of the three.

Bulldogs: In-ring discussion will generally make Davey the other guy though I think it's closer than most think - discussion of basically anything outside of in-ring work would make Dynamite the other guy.
