I don't want to bring up other companies vs WWE differences in here, but this has more to do with crowds than the product. I know many of us have said, but I hate the WHAT chants when people are talking. It's been forever since Steve Austin did the WHAT? stuff and it's so weird that it persists today. I like it when I watch damn near any other promotion and don't hear the WHAT chants. Normally it doesn't bug me, but it was especially intrusive during the Garza/Humberto stuff. If you took this segment and put it into any other company, it's probably getting over with the crowd. Instead, people immediately shit on the segment with WHAT chants until they just wind up going silent. Then when you watch it on TV, it makes it look uninteresting or boring.

They lean very heavily into the "WHAT" chants by scripting every promo to have awkward, inorganic pausing. They could very easily shut them down just by having people speak normally, or just change the cadence. No idea why they won't - they had no problem having the ring announcers switch it up to try to kill off the "one fall" stuff.

It's especially fucked up and shitty when they send their Foreign Heels out there to speak another language and then lean into the "WHAT" stuff. Just makes wrestling look as racist as it is.

On another note - is it my imagination or did they slow Aleister Black's theme down very slightly? Is there anything they do right that they won't fuck up later?

  2. I love Injustice calling back to Snoop's "Y'ALL DON'T HAVE LOVE??" but they need a real feud.

Dynasty segment was very enjoyable - I think they'll be just fine should they lose MJF. I've heard chatter about that here, but has anything actually been said specifically about MJF leaving MLW and going AEW exclusive? Seems like he'd be better off doing both if he can, unless they just throw a bunch of money at him.

  3. I'd argue "most" - the Rumble thread is 21 pages, up from last year's 15. I'd love for everyone to check out so WWE draws a 0.0 and is forced to make real changes, but the decline just doesn't seem as precipitous as we'd all like it to be. It seems based more on wishful thinking than anything else. We want AEW to succeed and we want WWE to fail because that's the only thing that can force WWE to stop putting on terrible wrestling shows.

Benoit first wins the title in 2004 (FOUR YEARS LATER, despite being a former WCW champ).

A one-day reign that he was given in hopes he wouldn't leave the company, so it doesn't really tie in to your point at all

  5. The above screenshot isn't an account of sexual abuse - it's emotional abuse and a reference to someone else's sexual abuse. Also not defending the dude, but if he's being "cancelled" it seems like there should be a little more to it. Is there a screenshot from the twitter account she's referencing?

Also - I had never heard the phrase "sex pest" before/outside of this specific case. Is that a thing?

Fun show that didn't seem to have much of a point story wise.

Particularly because there's a Takeover in three weeks. Also what was essentially a jobber match with Dragunov-Balor. Having Ilja "go the distance" with Balor doesn't do him any favors when every match in the company is laid out to go the distance.

Nice aggression from Finn Balor, but if you have a move called the Coup de Grace, that should be the last thing you do, right?

They use crowd noise on this show, right? Because the amount of volume the people are making doesn't always correlate with the people in the crowd who are just sitting there with their mouths closed watching.

Now, I like Mauro Ranallo. I thought he was great as a Pride announcer. But his overenthusiasm, coupled with the overproduced no pronouns push buzzwords Don't Speak Like a Normal Person Would Naturally WWE style, it's a real Watch on Mute situation.

You're right about the Coup de Grace, but I think it's a rare good call from the PTB that he not use the double stomp to end matches because it's a very babyface finisher. I'd rather it be phased out entirely, at least until he turns again.

If you believe Prichard (I know), they sweeten the sound on every show and have done so for a very long time.

I haven't watched an NXT program all the way through from start to finish in months now and that is mostly because of Mauro.

I've been saying this for month and people gave me shit about it. People said I was jealous or creepy

No one said you were jealous. Everyone said you were creepy. Because you were being creepy, and still are. You weren't just saying she isn't a good wrestler - you were personally attacking her and spreading rumors that she slept her way to the position she's in. You very clearly have a weird personal vendetta against her. It's really scummy, and it just gets scummier every time you bring it up again. Again - please, please stop.

If it counts as a world championship, my pick is probably the NXT title. Not an Arquette or Jinder in the bunch.

    It's a little late to still be a Bo-liever.

For what it's worth, Jinder is far more credible to me than Sami Callihan, Eddie Edwards, or a half-crippled Foley.

The select few in this thread that complain about Aubrey having fan support probably had no quarrel in the 90s when all you would hear in ECW regarding female acts was "Show your tits!", and "She's got herpes!".

    Nah.

The example I think of whenever people roll out "let people chant what they want to" is the post-Mania RAW where people were chanting "You suck _____" to various women in the ring. Fuck the people who chanted that and the money they paid to do so. Sometimes people need to stop chanting. You're free to disagree with me about that, but I think you and Craig can find it in your hearts to do so without personally attacking me.

You fucking stick in the mud wet blanket motherfucker.

I'm not sure that someone who has been shitting on every single WWE show in every single WWE thread for at least a decade has any room to throw that particular stone. You attacked Greggulator until he stopped posting in the RAW threads, solely because he was positively reviewing shows. I believe "pumping sunshine" was your expression. There seems to be a lot of that sort of thing in the AEW threads, too, but I'm not going to join in with the "best show and promotion EVER" talk. I can see flaws in the presentation, so I'm going to point them out. And it isn't out of anger, either - I genuinely want AEW to put on better shows so I can be more entertained.

Aubrey is a female referee for men's wrestling. Just by the law of human sexuality she has to work 150% harder to show she cant be pushed around. The fans recognize that and have put her over.

If she's getting over, she isn't doing her job. The wrestlers are supposed to be the ones getting over. The referees are there to get the matches over, not themselves.
