  1. I guess the crowd loudly cheering the eye-rollingly extended heel beatdown isn't enough reason for them to call an audible and cut it short. The announcers going on about how offended the crowd were that Orton would dare do that to Matt Hardy was hilarious. Like, just cut the fucking crowd mics if you aren't going to live in reality? Just dub in the reaction you want, since you obviously aren't going to listen to the real one?

As much as I find the NXT main event to be extremely exhausting at times, the crowd lives love every second of it.   So you have to go with it.  It is the wrestling equivalent of that  "Happy" song by Pharrell years ago.  Yeah it was played 25 times a day but the people enjoyed it so fuck it play it 35 tiimes a day

The biggest flaw in this analogy? Radio stations did eventually stop playing "Happy" after it wore itself out. There's no sign of NXT's booking or matches doing anything new or interesting anywhere on the card. Where's the next big hit? Who knows, because we aren't going to play any other song but "Happy," over and over, until the end of time.

  3. I know you guys love my hot takes, so here's another one: no one should bleed in that cage match.

Really, it shouldn't be a cage match at all, but mainly what I mean is that if there's blood in every cage match that just becomes another predictable spot in the creeping automation of modern professional wrestling, and as such will eventually mean nothing at all.

The consensus greatest heavyweight boxer of all time had an ideal fighting weight of around 210-215. Prime Tyson would be able to enter Best of the Super Juniors. The majority of MMA all-time great heavyweights could have (or did) cut to 205. Really big guy = superior athlete is a myth.

I don't think anyone was making that argument. Size and look matters moreso here and not as much in your examples because pro wrestling isn't actually based on who is the superior athlete. It's based on who's the most marketable.

  5. Not saying it's excessively vulgar or anything, just that if the company was trying to present an image that encouraged kids to watch, they wouldn't be looking for an excuse to say "shit" once per episode.

Is it stupid that anyone is offended by that word? Sure. But that's the status quo.

I don't think it's a wise policy - I can't imagine that whoever is being drawn in by "gonna cuss on the mic tonight!" is worth the amount of younger fans it could potentially cost them. I can't be the only one whose parents were like "Yeah, you're watching Nitro on Monday nights or you aren't watching wrestling" during the height of the Attitude Era.

I think part of the reason there seems to be very few kids in the audience is because no one is larger than life in the John Cena type role and there’s no dragons for that hero to slay.

The company is very intentionally not courting kids. Or we wouldn't hear "shit" in every promo.

I kind of feel bad for Private Party. You’d think they’d be apart of that battle royale brawl, but no sign of them. I wonder if they are being reprogrammed as performers at the training school they’ve setup.

If they're smart they'll retool that awful fucking gimmick, too. Definitely not something that sets the promotion apart from WWE.

  7. I don't see why people are harping on the Darby-Jeff comparison, I think it fits perfectly and those kinds of analogies are directed at the same lapsed fans that JR is there to attract. It can only help in making Darby look more like a star. If AEW is supposed to be about "let's look ONLY to the future" then why are Tully and Arn and Dustin there? Why all the Dusty references? Why the regional old school tributes?

JR is doing fine. He was also apparently instrumental in getting Tony there. I shudder to think about what an Excalibur-Marvez booth would have sounded like.

  8. The Bellas certainly deserve to be in more than Torrie Wilson, but I don't remember this much venom being sent her way.

It's weird that people transfer their hatred for the Johnny Ace Diva Search Era to the Bellas. It's like the Randy Orton hate in that it seems to be based on what they represent rather than anything they've actually done. Nikki busted her ass to improve in the ring, and in the process kept up with the women referred to on this board as some of the best women's wrestlers in the world.

Jose has convinced me that he deserves better than being cannon fodder. In another universe he's having bloody brawls in Puerto Rico.

This was the match I was talking about a couple of pages ago. I remember being impressed and thinking he could go if given the opportunity. But four years later I'm guessing this was his first and last opportunity.

  10. I don't know that Santana needed to cut a promo seeming mostly fine an hour after getting his eye stabbed. Maybe hold that off until next week, or Dark at least? Kind of a shame because that promo is the most I've seen out of either of those guys, but it seemed very out of place to me.

  11. Riddle tweeting that Goldberg is the worst wrestler in the business isn't grabbing for the brass ring. It isn't even building up a match between the two, because if one were to take place, Riddle is basically saying it would suck.

It's also the same thing everyone jumped down Corey Graves's throat for. The difference is that the general IWC opinion agreed with RIddle and disagreed with Graves.

I get that they have a folder but isn't this the "wrestling' thread for the month? I'm probably reading it wrong but I always assumed that anything happening in current month that impacted wrestling would go here?  Otherwise there would be no need for this thread as we could just post in said appropriate folder.

The omnibus thread is for miscellaneous wrestling talk - things that don't have a clear place in a specific thread. There's no reason to be having the same conversation in several different threads, or have the same gifs posted across multiple threads.

But anyone else feel like Undisputed Era have run their course? Not saying they should disband but maybe it’s time to switch things up a bit, maybe trade Fish out for someone new since he’s always on the verge of being retired due to injury.

They absolutely should disband. Getting a new member would mean prolonging their story, which is already excruciatingly long. Their dominance over everything in the show for two years is a huge part of why NXT is no longer must-see.

  14. Her place in AEW would clearly be "Rusev's valet." There isn't a real reason why AEW should bring in Rusev without her. I don't see how she's an albatross. His issues with the company over the years seem to point to some creep backstage trying as hard as he can to break them up. Unless Tony Khan plans on running endless breakup angles trying to make life imitate art, it wouldn't be an issue in AEW.
