  1. Personally, I think Jacare houses GSP. With Romero, you can't count on how active he will be. I think it's a bad matchup for Georges, but he can steal rounds possibly based on inactivity. Against Jacare, I don't think Georges would survive 3 minutes on the ground.
  2. Who said anything about PPV points? You realize how many folks have raised a stink about money since last summer? We almost didn't have Khabib and Ferguson THIS WEEKEND over money. Any manager worth his weight especially now isn't going to let you fight GSP on your current deal as is.
  3. But that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. Why the fuck would anyone want to fight Bisping if he lost a non title fight to GSP, someone who is a much bigger draw than Bisping, at 185? Yeah, I finally get my title shot but I'm going to forego potentially making more than I ever made to fight someone who just lost a fight for the money I was going to make anyway.
  4. Yeah, if I'm Yoel Romero and Jacare who also want to make money, I would rather fight GSP if he won and not Michael Bisping fresh off a loss against GSP. That would also be incredibly absurd.
  5. ...and that's the whole thing about the sanctions being a deterrent among other things. My whole point isn't about whether fighters should be able to provide for themselves or their family, but sanctions aren't a deterrent if you can just naturally switch to another career or make a lateral move to another MMA org after a brief hiatus. The only thing you can argue is if someone really loves MMA or wanted to be a UFC fighter their entire life, it's a punishment for those fighters. Even then, if you "retire" for a certain length of time, somehow find yourself no longer under UFC contract, and fight somewhere else, then you really were not punished that hard. You just had a slight career inconvenience and some potentially bad PR. That's all. If a fighter can find a valid reason to get their suspension length reduced (or possibly USADA enacts some good behavior/PED education program I suggested awhile back doing the same thing), I think that would be somewhat transparent on both sides. To turn it into something where fighters just "retire" and find a method to game the system just makes it a bizarre and drawn out way to get released from the UFC.
  6. Kennedy was also a much bigger fighter. Besides Henderson, who wasn't really trying to take him down, this is the first fighter Bisping has faced in a while that wasn't his size or bigger. You would have to go back to Cung Le, another guy who wasn't really trying to take him down. Plus, I don't know how I would feel about a GSP who was 15-20 pounds bigger in natural weight haven't never fought. There is a reason he never ventured above 170. Not saying he couldn't beat MWs then or now, but the landscape at 185 is much different than 2013 and some of his inherent advantages go away. GSP was a tremendous fighter, but I don't think he is THAT much more skilled than Bisping to overcome a layoff after some of his skills that put him over the top already eroded. A lot of that could be passion related, but I doubt anyone is trying to have tough moments in fights. He could beat Bisping, but I think we should also prepare for GSP look like a fighter who might be a little past his prime.
  7. or Misha took less money.
  8. He could be Jacare and Yoel in the division that fight is occurring. The likelihood of Georges fighting him was slim and this was the fight they were working on so I mean...shit could be worse. I mean the fact he is headlining a show after a lot of (stupid) people thought a replay of the Marquardt fight would play out in last two fights is a testament to MMA in general. If he wins this weekend, it's only going to contribute to his case for getting a big marquee fight.
  9. Situations like this are intriguing because I don't think the UFC would (or should) get into a place where everyone who gets a long sanction is granted a release from their contract. What's the point of suspending someone if they aren't under UFC contract for most of the suspension length anyway? On top of that, the UFC has to define what a sanction or suspension is beyond you sit out for X number of months. I mean someone like Barnett had some flexibility BEFORE he got suspended. However, I don't think they're going to let Barnett be a full time indie or pro wrestler just because he's suspended. I think folks should be able to make money while on the shelf, but something has to register with the UFC that their fighters should not doing other contact sports full time while still under contract and under suspension. Letting someone do a grappling fight every now and then is fine. A pro wrestling match here and there is fine. However, letting people be transferred to another sports endeavor while under suspension for cheating makes no sense at all.
  10. My guess would be August or September, but that might be the International Fight Week headliner. I think they would want to see how Cormier/Rumble II goes before trying to see if they can have the winner fight JBJ. The fight is in early to mid April, but that's pushing it in terms of trying to promote a fight that might not happen for various reasons.
  11. Given 205 is sort of a targeted division for ACB, he could make some money depending on his feelings on accepting money from Chechen warlords. However, if you're staunch defender of catching PED users, I dunno if Russia (or Japan as mentioned in Meltzer's article) is the place to be fighting.
  12. If you ever want to remember why MMA is banned in Lebanon, Carlos Condit is your trivia answer.
  13. According to Karim Zidan, his father was never a cornerman. FWIW, his cousin Frodo Khasbulaev also couldn't get a visa. Although, that's not really surprising considering that was the reason behind his career stateside being cut short.
