  1. A lot of what McGregor is bluster. They're going to let him beat his chest without exposing the gimmick. Getting a boxing license in California (why would he fight in California let alone box in California? Think about it.). Saying this and that. All bluster. Everything he does, they still have to sign off on. I mean he clearly agreed to give the FW title up to hold the LW title. Whatever happens in front of the cameras is a different story. Look at what happened in April. Everyone was desperately trying to side with Conor and against the evil empire. Then, people figured out....Conor is about as full of shit as much as they are. Even Meltzer who is probably a little slow on the draw on certain stuff like this was able to put together that a lot of stuff Conor says doesn't add up, especially with his knowledge of different negotiations. As much as people like to overthink stuff and feed into what McGregor does, all this stuff is basically an extension of him putting on a show.
  2. She is probably 2 wins away. I am not sure what's next for Joanna. I'm surprised Joanna isn't facing Jessica Andrade.
  3. Aldana can learn something from that fight though. She made good adjustments after round 1. Now she knows that people are willing to not give her space to operate. Plus, improving her defense as she throws her punches is going to be key.
  4. I mean I just started watching the Jets/Dolphins game and moments ago saw Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake almost split Bryce Petty in half. I mean...I dunno if I see Sage Northcutt in that type of position and doing well. I think he's good at competition karate. Other than that, I think it's that you can't force him to get certain things at it relates to MMA. I mean there are quite a few nice guys who do well in MMA. The nicest dude in the sport, Demian Maia, is in the same division. Yeah, you're going to get the Mike Perrys of the world who can put people in the hurt locker real quick. However, mean streak or not, you need that team around you as well as the motivation to succeed. I think he's got motivation, but it's not enough to overcome so many deficiencies. I believe it's the same with PVZ. I mean Justin Buchholz has shown himself to be a decent coach. With that said, he certainly ain't the dude to turn Paige VanZant into a legitimate, perennial top strawweight. It ain't happening anytime under his tutelage. Anytime your coach wants you to turn into your opponent while you're locked in a tight body triangle, the instruction you're receiving is not the greatest. Sage went to Tristar for a brief cup of tea. It didn't work out. He went to help Woodley prepare for Thompson at Roufusport and then came back to train at Mohler MMA. He's basically living the life of a glorified sparring partner except he lives in a giant house with his parents and drives a nice looking car. Living in Katy, TX and going to school part-time, who's going to mentor him to want to become something better? If he was working with a Matt Hume, Brandon Gibson, or Duane Ludwig, I would feel more confident that I'm seeing the best Sage possible. Hell, I would even take a Trevor Wittman or a Robert Follis who both been in the game coaching for a minute and put together respectable careers.
  5. I think Waterson is undersized at 115, but she got it done fairly quickly. Northcutt has so much working against him. Crazy Marv Marinovich type father. Not too many great gyms to train at in Texas. He's a college student who doesn't have to worry about money so whatever he makes in the UFC is just icing on the cake. In addition, his fight IQ isn't the greatest. Outside the UFC, he can look like a capable and good athlete. In an organization where you have more than enough good athletes, that's going to be a problem. Gall, on the other hand, is already with a good gym and shown himself to be savvy in certain spots. The conundrum the UFC is facing is it's clear he is at a certain level, and it's not at a level where he can beat even an average welterweight. It's hard to build a dude when you know can throw a dart at any name on the WW board and pick someone who can beat him. Sultan Aliev, who won earlier on the card, could probably beat him. I don't even think Aliev is going to make it above the FS1 prelims in the UFC unless he's there to be a showcase opponent. Aliev is tough enough where a fight with Gall is going to be anything but a showcase for Mickey Gall. I think tonight, folks are already going to be leaping off the Gall train just because he looked green as all hell at points. For the UFC to make this worthwhile, they have to stop that and the only way to do that is put him against garbage opponents. However, that's only wasting main card space.
  6. I don't know if it is the wrong size as it is he shouldn't be in the UFC just yet. It's crazy that the other day I was watching Tom Duquesnoy, a guy who probably could be beating top ten bantamweights in the UFC (or just about everyone in Bellator at 135), still in BAMMA. Mickey Gall and Sage Northcutt are having a co-main event on Fox when both should be in feeder leagues working on their game. Even if he was at HW, I still think it takes 18-24 months for him to beat anyone decent. There are bad heavyweights, but MMA has gotten to the point where a ton of bad fighters are competent enough to pull off upsets.
  7. I doubt Hardy is coming back to fight him. Plus, I don't know if Gall fares better at 155. He's a big WW and the middle tier at LW is just as tough.
  8. Who could he beat though? Every solid to decent WW of value beats Mickey Gall. He's extremely green. We're basically watching him develop and have fights he should be having in Ring of Combat or CFFC.
  9. Dude, Dana found Mickey Gall (well technically Lou Neglia did but you get the point) on the Lookin for a Fight series. They knew he was gonna beat CM Punk. They're trying to build him up. Also, as I said, Gall is about 1-2 years away from being able to beat a solid, mid tier welterweight. Anyone with takedown defense has a shot to upset him. It's going to be hard to find viable, low level opponents for him. Sage was at the level he is at. Every other notable WW is above not only Sage but Gall as well. Hence, why Gall is talking about 155.
  10. Well, the magic ran out for Mike Perry this year. However, it's crazy he went 2-1 in less than 4 months w/ those 2 wins over good fighters. Not everyone is good enough like Jouban to pull this strategy off. There is a bunch of lower ranked WWs Perry can smash with very little trouble. Match Jouban against any lower top ten to top 20 welterweight and keep him busy.
  11. Jouban is doing a way better job dealing with Mike Perry's stalking tactics than Danny Roberts did.
  12. All three of his UFC fights have been wars of attrition. I thought he over-performed against Wilson in his debut, but Wilson is looking more like a frontrunner. In this fight, he came hurdling back to reality. He's a solid fighter, especially for 205 where the middle tier is thin as hell. However, the Craig fight just exemplifies why his ceiling is fairly limited even in a sparse division. It might be both hanging out with Alex Nicholson, another not-so-swell dude.
  13. Dude, he was done. I doubt Craig would've pulled guard if Da Silva had any energy left.
  14. Very good video package for Faber. Nice that they were able to get that in thanks to Paul Craig pulling out the finish against ole Frank Waisten Jr.
  15. It's not a bad fight. However, if I had to pit DHK against a wrestler prospect, it would be Kamaru Usman. Usman is at the stage of his career where Covington was prior to the Warlley Alves fight. All he has been asked to do is wrestle people to sleep. Leon Edwards offered some resistance, but it wasn't enough to make Usman do anything else. Kim would at least forced him to do something a little different early on because I doubt the takedowns comes that easy. Tonight, Covington was way more comfortable striking than your average wrestler. You can probably match Covington a little tougher help him improve. If they wanted to just get him a name on the resume, then Covington vs. DHK would accomplish that though.
  16. Covington called out Stun Gun just minutes ago. I am not sure if DHK is a better fighter than Barberena at this point. Bigger name probably, but I don't see what Covington would be unable to do against him that he did tonight versus Barberena.
  17. Covington looks like a goddamn monster. Barberena hasn't really had enough success keeping Covington off of him.
  18. Another damn good fight between Moontasri and Morono. Morono just outlasted him, and Moontasri couldn't get really anything going except for those quick body kicks.
  19. Good fight between Emmett and Holtzman. Thought Emmett edged it out so I agree with that decision.
  20. That's easily the best Smith has looked in the UFC. Instead of just coming out guns ablazing, she had a sound and functional gameplan that allowed her to put together tangible offense. Her biggest problem in her UFC run has been making her pressure effective. In this fight, she kept Aldana out of the center for the most part and kept Aldana's big combos to a minimum. Her timing was much better, and the punches Smith was throwing didn't get wider as the fight progressed. She was getting caught here and there with big punches, but nothing that would change the tide of the fight. She still kept moving forward with effective pressure. That's what kept the momentum from sliding in Aldana's direction after Aldana regrouped in round 2. Damn good fight as well.
  21. Poor Mizugaki just got posterized by Wineland. Wineland vs. the winner of Assuncao/Sterling would be great.
  22. Also, keep in mind folks that the interim title isn't finalized. There might not be one for all we know. Personally, I would like UFC to talk both (or maybe just Khabib) off the interim title ledge if they can.
  23. McGregor is the legitimate champ...and you know also the biggest draw in all of combat sports right now. There is 0.00000000001% he gets stripped of the LW title. Keep in mind, part of their agreement was that upon giving up the FW belt that he got to keep the LW title if he beat Alvarez. He beat Alvarez soundly with no controversy. More importantly, he made the UFC tons of money. So right now, their plan is the keep things between the UFC and McGregor civilized and diplomatic unlike last spring. Plus, they have no intentions of burning out Conor like they did with Rousey.
  24. He isn't coming back to face one of those dudes. That's the whole point. Neither of those fights is significantly bigger than the other. Have you been paying attention? They're not going to have both of those guys sit out until October or November and then have the person they didn't pick for Conor sit out for even longer. If they're both healthy, they are choosing to have them fight. You're talking about making a deal with Conor when actuality they have to make a deal with both Khabib and Tony. They already agreed to letting Conor have time off.
