I guess that Jade/Shafir match was like what Bischoff had envisioned when he booked Goldberg vs. Regal. I don't think Jade will get to look so dominant against someone like Deeb though. Also, credit to Ishii for making me enjoy an Adam Cole match.

Funny you mention that because I was wondering what would’ve happened if Shafir’s frustration led to her stretching Jade.

    • Garcia really needs to add a Shaky Legs Kneedrop or Kofi Kingston Boom drop or something.

agree, I was thinking that he really need to add more “sports entertainment” elements beyond the Kangols. I get that part of the long term story is that he’s not actually meant for this, but it needs to be awkward and corny. That spot he did where he had Eddie on the ropes and was running in place on him is a good start, add some show/comedy to that move and add something like you’re talking about.

Jade is really good on offense and is charismatic, but has such a long way to go with the rest.  She sells submissions like she’s being mildly inconvenienced.  Like she’s kinda puzzled and nonchalantly trying to figure her way out if a Chinese finger trap.  Shafir wrecked her leg for a good while, then she hit a pump kick and landed on the bad leg like nothing.  Jesus.  If Danielson is training her, he really needs to explain that you don’t just flip a switch and stop selling when it’s time to go back on offense.

I hope they have no long term plans for Shafir, because the “Jade doesn’t give a shit” lead up, and then this match, made her look awful.

Shafir looked visibly frustrated at one point when trying to lock in a basic leg submission and Jade had no idea what to do and just kind of sat there.

  4. I’m probably just tired and grumpy after yet another long stressful week but outside of the very excellent Kingston-Garcia match that ranged from “eh” to “meh”. I didn’t see that Jade-Shafir match the same way, and I’m probably just salty from soooo much Adam Cole this week.

Apparently according to Wrestling Observer, Bret Hart has signed a new deal with WWE that would ban him from appearing on AEW TV....

I'm not even sure what to say if that's indeed legit.

But generally speaking I haven’t found lack of crowd noise to be an issue for the women’s matches? Obviously there are exceptions, like the Marina match from last week, but most of the time I think crowd response is about what it should be. In fact, I can think of a lot more matches where I could feel the Dynamite crowd wiling themselves to give sub-par matches better reactions than they merited out of a sense of obligation to support the women, honestly.

I mean, the Deeb 5-minute challenge was so dead you could hear people breathing in the audience, but other than that I don't think it's been too bad. The Marina match was similar, for sure. At the Austin show I attended, the crowd was super hot for all of the women's matches for the Youtube show (and super hot all night).

    Agree 100%

They just need to SLOW DOWN and let shit breathe.

The announcement of Dax v Cash should have been a 'moment', maybe with a backstage skit showing them having their names drawn against each other.

Cut the Hook segment, put that on Rampage, and everything has a few extra seconds.

They'll have the same issue on Rampage. We don't need Archer v Serpentico right before we get Archer v Wardlow. That squash will eat up 5-10 minutes (inc entrances) that could be used to pace the show better.

On Rampage, they will cut entrances for time. They've done that the last few weeks.

They could just cut the Hook segments period.

  8. Finally able to watch, started last night at the hospital but only match I could pay attention to was Dustin-Punk, and had to leave during JB-KOR.

anyway, the opener was everything I wanted in a wrestling match between those 2. Old school AF, but with some big newer moves towards the end. Thinking Dustin might actually be on his last ride, which means I may get to see his last match live, since it will assuredly be in Austin.

BCC vs the random dudes who could be the next member (even though Danielson named Moriarty in his original promo) was better when I could pay more attention and hear Regal and the others put Martin and all over. I was a little salty that Dante had to technically eat the submission when they’ve been building him some recently (and when Brock is right there), but that’s my fandom talking.

JB vs. KOR was the surprise great match of the night. I am on team “the right guy went over”. Looked like Jungle Boy may have knocked one of Kyle’s teeth out, definitely bloodied his mouth.

Hook continues to be dangerous and also still hasn’t sold a fucking thing. I’m worried for Danhausen.

As Dean said, Britt got the memo that the women’s tournament is stiff (and also competitive).  Speaking of stiff, fumbling your promo where you’re bragging about being the best promo in the women’s division is not the look you want. They’re obviously building to Britt-Jade (The Baddest Bitch vs. That Bitch, in the battle of originality).

Main event...FUCKING STING DOING CRAZY DIVES!!!! I love him, always have, but “killing yourself for our pleasure” is not meant literally. Same goes for Darby, we need to enjoy him while he have him. He needs to not do things like do an unprotected headfirst dive into a chair wedged in the corner. He also cracked his skull pretty good on the coffin at the end. Also, we saw shirtless buff Jose late last year, how soon y’all forget.

I’m sure I’m forgetting things, obviously the NJPW announcement was great (although Adam Cole meh), Kingston was great, Wardlow’s backstage stuff was great...oh yeah Wardlow Butcher was just huge dudes hitting each other hard until Wardlow tries to end Andy’s wrestling career with brutal power bombs.

That's what was so cool about that match.  Jeff Hardy was there to see the first time Dante Martin and Marq Quinn got to challenge each other to see who the next Jeff Hardy will be.  If it isn't Sammy Guevara or Darby Allin.

I haven't seen Dante do anything dangerously dumb that I can recall (in my 8 months of watching), so I think he's in 4th place in that race right now. I really do like you (or whoever) said that Darius is Matt and Dante is Jeff.

When thinking about possible cross-promotional matches for this show, I think a useful lens may be to consider: 1) Would this match mean more in America than Japan? And 2) How damaging would it be to the potential loser’s promotion?

In that light, Okada vs. Cole would make a lot of sense. Cole never really got to the point of being a big deal in NJPW, so he’d be a pretty mid-tier defense for Okada in Japan, but would obviously be a big draw for AEW fans. And he’s already just been used to thoroughly put over AEW’s champ, so dropping a fall to New Japan’s champ doesn’t really negatively impact anything AEW has imminently cooking.

On the one hand, I want less Adam Cole on my TV. On the other hand, I enjoy watching him lose.

  11. Keith Morris (Circle Jerks singer) caught Covid a couple of weeks ago, and apparently his recovery is slow enough that they've now postponed all of the Circle Jerks/7 Seconds/Negative Approach tour dates until mid-May, including the 2 Austin dates next week I was really excited for. I'm also a little worried that all these delays are going to affect the bill moving forward. I love CJ, but it was 7 Seconds I was desperately looking forward to and I will be heartbroken if this ends up derailing my chance to see them one last time.

But one is bigger and better than the other, so I don't see the need for corporate speak. Especially since he owns both. He isn't hurting anyone's feelings by being honest.

If you're trying to sell the programming rights to a TV station/streaming service, you wouldn't talk about how it's second-tier/developmental.

  13. I caught up with both of this weeks shows (as well as the amazing promo video for Dynamite, must watch if just for the Dustin-Punk segment) and really enjoyed most everything except the times when Kingston and Taz were jawing a little too much.

Like Dean said, that Danielle Kamala finisher was amazing, super quick, crisp, out of nowhere, and looked hurty. Got an audible “oh damn” from me, and even woke Kingston and Taz up.

Hobbs’ snap power slam was mighty. Looked for a minute like Angels had legit hurt Starks neck on the 360, and I’m pretty sure Starks slapping the shit out of the back of his head was a little payback.

I thought Nese almost killed that guy with that move (Dean says k driller), scary stuff.

Comoroto-Lee was the Big Meaty Men shouldertackling each other like two rhinos that we all love.

From Monday, we had another solid women’s trios with Emi getting more love, JLowe getting more Bunny, and them seemingly solidifying the Soho-Jay team. Then the fun 8-man with Top Flight and Private Party trying to one up each other to win the Hardys’ love.

That was quite the Rube Goldberg combo for the Dark Order-jobbers 8-man. They emphasized on both shows that the Dark Order was actually 2 long term tag teams, and I continue to suspect they’re slowly phasing them out as a faction.

It's more of a "we want them just so no one else can" thing.

And/or make your competition "that other promotion" spend more money and up the price for their other talent renewing.

No, I get what they get out of it. A hot act jumping gets buzz and attention. If they can get one, they should.

Or, WWE figured out that it's one way to get ***** from Meltzer.
