  1. Not much to add that wasn’t already said.

Opener was so good, but that’s was to be expected.

I should have guessed when the Hardys called the Bucks “Hardys cosplayers” what was going to happen. It was uncanny at times.

Acclaimed are so over, and while Caster-Martin wasn’t a great match (Dante reverted to his weak strikes, he needs more BCC time) it was good to get Dante a win on TV.

Young love and Kaz segment was cringe. Please, for the love of Gotch, make this feud end Coach Tony.

Main event was excellent, Stat really woke everyone up when she hit that HUGE lariat after the first couple of minutes of feeling things out. During PiP, I’m fairly certain that Stat’s hanging vertical lasted 20-25 seconds. The segment Dean posted a tweet of was slick and brutal and I think everyone was justifiably pissed at the kick out there, especially after the pre-match promos. Ruby did a good job post-match reacting to what was happening and not just giving lines.

That would make a 12 match card with only Hookhausen vs. Sterling/Neese as the only announced Buy-In match.

I would've said that Jade/Anna should be on the Buy-In, but I actually think O'Reilly/Darby would be an excellent pre show match. I mean just three years ago at the first DoN our pre-show matches were the Casino Battle Royal that Hangman won and Sabian/Sammy. It's okay to put some real star power on the preshow.

If the idea of the pre-show is to convince people on the fence and/or casuals to shell out money for the PPV, then something like Darby-O'Reilly would be a much better option than Hookhausen- Smart Abs.

I think I actually had that one as I have a modded PS1 that could play burned games and imports. If not that, I definitely had a joshi game. I sold it to a used game store a few years back.

  4. Wardlow is SO OVER! Wow! It was hard not to start popping at home. Also damn, I hope that local enhancement dude is okay, nasty cage bump. Best use of the cage in that match until the final visual. Wardlow needs some gold by the end of the year.

Hangman-Punk was intense in a slow build way. Verged at time on being a little too insidery, but hearing the crowd go from booing Hangman to cheering after he made his stand for AEW was cool, and then Punk really getting into his head at the end.

Mox-King vs Private Party was more competitive than I expected, great brawling, PP know how to really take offense. Best Shooting Star Press I’ve seen in a while. The Danielson injury angle is interesting in terms of evening the perceived odds, although Jericho being a wizard might be a hidden advantage.

Trent is sneaky maybe a top ten guy in AEW. Great match, especially when Trent and Dax were wailing on each other. Jeff Cobb is a scary looking dude.

Not sure of this is where the Hardys backstage segment was, I think it was at this point in the show, but it was excellent.

Loved the triple threat, they all really gelled and played well off each other, felt very smooth. Highlights being Swerve throwing JB from a shoulder carry onto Starks for a huracanrana, and then Swerve landing on his feet on the super poison rana attempt. Aubrey Edwards was agog in the background. And then Lee doing his over the top rope move! Helpful to have two huge strong dudes there to catch.

Thunder Rosa does a decent job to remind us that she actually has a match at the PPV and we should be interested in it. Crowd loves her. No makeup was nice touch.

Storm and Baker was solid, they messed up the ending a bit with Hayter. Or actually getting there to help DMD, making her grab the rope instead. I was honestly a little surprised to DMD go over, I won’t believe that they have Stat or Ruby go over her, and I have a sick feeling we’re going to get Bay Bay and DMD as winners.

Finally, Joe-KOR was stiffer than my back is going to be tomorrow after doing 10 hours of metal detecting and digging holes for work. Good lord they just laid in everything. My MOTN.

Sonny was a developmental prospect from the beginning, but AEW has “recruited over him,” to borrow a college football term, and that’s nobody’s fault.

Counterpoint: Sonny has looked great in recent Youtube matches and is over with the live crowd (from personal experience) and could very capably be in an 8-10 minute TV prelim match as a JTTS. At least as interesting as any of the lower tier Dark Order guys at this point.

  6. For the arena fans, WWE has traditionally run their Austin shows at the Frank Erwin Center (aka the Drum). This was closed last year and the upcoming show will be at the brand new Moody Center, which I believe is a little smaller and set up to serve as a better concert venue in addition to being a basketball arena.  I imagine they'll mention that on the program as well.

LOOOOOL I actually had no idea Cinnabon sells "just the center."  This means that my idea for Popeye's to sell just the fried chicken skin as a main dish is probably viable!

I've seen fancy cooking shows where they use chicken skin cracklins for crunch.

  8. If it's about bonuses, then just select a Pro Bowl team the way Topps used to name their "All Pro" team for their sports cards. All of these guys can afford to pay for their own trips to Hawaii these days.

Yuka/Skye Blue vs Nyla/Emi was Match of the Night & they need to do a best of 7 between them adding various Partners in Trios then back to the Core 4.

Yuka/Skye/Riho vs. Nyla/Emi/Bunny c'mon TK book it next week for Elevation!

The twist is that last week Yuka and Anna Jay beat Nyla and Emi, so Skye Blue is the weak link apparently.

Jade's wrestled 9 times this year. In about 19 weeks. But she's got a backstage interview about every week too. That feels about right.

His name is Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and he has a similar schedule.

Some people aren't going to like this especially you but Sasha and Naomi (or a few other WWE women) could walk into AEW and instantly be the most well rounded women's star in the entire company.

This isn't an AEW vs. WWE thing as I much prefer most things AEW does but their women's division is still severely lacking in star power.

Owen Hart Cup: another miss. Probably Dr. Britt's to lose since Ruby Soho has exactly one victory on Dynamite and Statlander is only called up from YouTube randomly when they need to throw her in something.

Finally playing catch up. Woods vs Yuta was probably the AEW match of the week edging out the Bear Country vs Workhorsemen maybe just because it got more time to build and play to the leg selling and the Pure rules.

Bear Country vs. Workhorsemen was one of those Worldwide Full Point matches on paper that turned into a mid-3 star Mothership main event in practice. I love when you get a couple of featured JTTS teams battling over their place in the pecking order.

Woods vs. Yuta had great story elements with the Pure rules and the selling. I'm not 100% on the flash pin out of nowhere.

Third best match was the 10-man, followed closely by Trent-Nemeth.

The Emi match had her heeling it up gloriously, I think Nyla has learned a lot from working with Emi.

Skye Blue is very cute and sweet, until you insult her. Amber Nova really knows how to stooge it up.

The rest were mostly just there., fine for the most part but nothing stand out.

We just need a transfer window, just like there’s a HS signing window or a free agency window in pro sports, etc. Guys being able to hit the escape hatch at any time puts everyone else in a bad position, including their ex-teammates. It would help teams out tremendously to know, “Okay, past ‘x’ date all these guys are committed to be here for the season and between ‘y’ date and ‘z’ date, we’ll know who we’re losing and how many guys we need to replace.”

It’s creating competitive imbalance issues. Over the past year, we have seen some teams not even be able to field a 2-deep of scholarship athletes at certain position groups (including critical groups like OL and DL) because of so many guys hitting the portal. You can’t field a competitive team that way. Even worse, it creates a player safety issue because the guys left behind have fewer opportunities for subs in games and take more reps in practice.

Players should be free to move, there just needs to be more structure to that process.

Well, there was a May 1st deadline for players to enter their name into the transfer portal and use their one-time "free" transfer for 2022. That gave players and teams their spring practice to get a sense of the depth chart and a sense of the new schemes for schools with coaching changes.

Who really knows at this point. They might throw one on there last minute. Speaking of, not digging how many matches are getting announced so close to the PPV. They normally have things setup a little sooner. Like MJF vs Wardlow has had the proper build for sure. HOB vs DT getting tossed on last night seems haphazard. As does Bucks vs Hardys getting announced only a week out. And the TBS Title match out of blue for Anna Jay with zero TV matches since what that hardcore women's street fight? Hell the Women's Owen Finals won't be set until two days before the PPV.

Not sure why the timing on this one seems so thrown together. I'm still expecting a good show. But wasn't the point of fewer PPVs to really announce in advance and advertise and give everything that old school important feel? That isn't happening here.

Seems like they  suddenly said "oh shit, we don't have anything for the Hardys or the Young Bucks, we've been so busy using them in other programs!".
