  1. Something that hasn't been mentioned yet - cena had a golf ball in his elbow at summerslam. I take the point that he wasnt the best guy in that match, but he was far from a passenger, especially under the circumstances. And it was still better than bray's best. It's true that bray's on the upswing and cena's had a down year, but they haven't passed each other by any means.
  2. I thought rudos brawled, tecnicos were... technical and the psychology is based around who sets the pace of the match. Are there cases where a rudo has shit all over a title match and started ripping masks and shit?
  3. Expand my lucha horizons - I notice a few of you making a point of saying 'title matches', is there a distinct formula for them? Or is it just that they're three falls?
  4. I love brock and have come to dislike punk quite a bit, but I don't think brock's matches have been strong enough to overcome the quantity disadvantage. As mentioned above, brock's best was with punk, so I don't see how he can go over punk here in all honesty
  5. I've seen quite a bit of masters live in the voting period and he is a cut above anyone else appearing in pcw with a couple of exceptions. However, the series with okada is just tits, and I'll overlook hashi's faults for highs like that. This is one of those deals where masters just hadn't had the chance of a big scale main event, but thems the breaks... Is anyone interested in masters though? They really should be. His whole career trajectory of the huge push when he was green cos of his look, getting injured and then getting really good by the time no one in wwe gave a shit is kind of tragic
  6. Hasn't the selling always been like that in nj though? I feel like I'm making excuses but I treat it as part of the style you have to just accept. I can hack it more than the fighting spirit strike sequences to be honest
  7. The rainmaker reversal sequences can look a bit sloppy depending on the person but the rainmaker's so well protected that they draw a visceral 'argh!' reaction out of me when someone's desperately trying to avoid it. I particularly like when it's tanahashi and he goes for the slingblade. I can totally see the criticism though... Have you mentioned who from Japan you would have put in this year generally dylan? You dont seem high on much of what got in.
  8. Yeah the nj and wwe styles have massively amalgamated and all the guys who are over in their own promotion would almost certainly get over in the other, leaving aside the look of ishii etc.
  9. He always seems to know where he is and always puts together a discernible kayfabe game plan. His selling can be eh but I think that's just the nj match formula. Did nj always know he'd turn out this good or was it kind of a fluke?
  10. Man Foley is perhaps the saddest "old dude" going. Flair looks like death and has fucked up his life. Hogan has pissed all over my memories of him. But Foley is like the cool crazy uncle you grew up with and you'd see him like twice a year and just want to hang out with him forever. Then when you're older he buys you beer and tells you cool stories and gives you dirty magazines and he's just the dude that you hang out with at parties and shit. Then you're 24 and you realise he's no further along in life than when he was 18 and he's just doddering about trying to be cool and funny and you always go to his place to meet up with him because your girlfriend hates him. Then you're 30 and he's never met your kids because you're scared he'll walk in the room stinking of piss and cigarettes and they'll be traumatised for years. That was fucking fantastic.
  11. Elgin is my favourite roh guy, to damn with faint praise. Regal is fucking regal, the cesaro and particularly the hero match were magnificent I think it'd be interesting if he got lesnar in a later round with their comparable volume of work. And I'd vote regal, as much as I love brock
  12. Yeah I loved seeing him with the tc and everything and I think it meant a lot to him, but I dunno, I wasnt totally blown away by it. I'm not keen on any of his defense opponents really. I'd probably have Ambrose this year over akiyama that year, for what it's worth. I'm thinking I might go back and have another look at that stuff though.
  13. I'm a huge akiyama mark but he hasn't seemed massively motivated for a few years. Any complaint about ambrose stems from the fact that the other two shield members are also the shit, which is weird to me
  14. Does watching styles break someone's neck last saturday count towards this year's voting or next year's? It's by the by really since this is Shinsuke all day long, and I can see myself voting him pretty far
  15. Sheamus. I agree that zayn's offence still looks a bit indy, and sheamus blows him away in that respect. His strength is 'solidness' and believability for me. I'd also agree that zayn is better at character though, so it wasnt clear cut. I guess I prioritise the former over the latter in my prowres. Also I'm not keen on the concept of 'carrying' but I felt like zayn's purpose in the cesaro match was to be the skinny guy cesaro could do ridiculous shit to.
  16. Shit, I've just tied the vote 31-31. What happens if it ends like this? Anyway I voted for Orton. He's a really weird case in that he's very reliant on his chemistry with a given guy, but I don't think that's necessarily just tied to the quality of the opponent. He is far and away Christian's best opponent, who is very good but not quite great. I can totally see why people would hate him, but then I think just looking at his body of matches speaks for itself. KENTA peaked at least 5 years ago I think, and he's hurt now swagsuke has turned into 'KENTA with charisma'.
  17. He really did look worse than at least half the fans at pcw...
  18. They have pretty similar flaws, but I don't have to listen to people tell me Ibushi is better than Cena because he does more moves
  19. I saw Hero in 3 matches this weekend in pcw, and I was feeling a bit of a carelord at his strikes. I wouldn't mind so much if there had been some build so they seemed valuable at least but they were just scattered randomly through his matches. He's also getting fatter. Take that Triple H! Daniels has also gone massively up in my estimation from downright loathing, for his great character work. He's less annoying in-ring these days but he's also not found much to replace the stupid offense. He's bland This is closer for me than it would have been previously but it's still Hero all the way.
