Same last name too!

So the F4W board is trying to tell me that Karl Anderson is on the same level of Arn Anderson...yep.

Larry has a face that looks like he'd kick you in the nuts and run. Arn looks like you're about to just straight wake up in the ER.
Oh yeah, Larry has a great "Silent but Deadly" grin the whole angle.

I reviewed WCW Saturday Night 12/7/1991 here:
http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2016/04/wcw-saturday-night-1271991-review.htmlOverall thoughts: Kind of a mish mash of various footage likely due to the holiday the previous week. Good show though with an okay Benoit/Liger NJPW, a hot 8-man with Pillman looking like the best worker in the world like always and some decent squashes.
Some shots from the show:

I have so many wrestling videos that it is honestly easier and less messy just to download them from the internet than to actually find the dvd. Sucks because I have a lot of cool stuff but usually can't find it . I ended up covered in dust, sore and tired from trying to find one today.

With Kobe retiring, I think WWE should try to book Shaq vs Kobe. Easy 1 million buys and it would get all of the coverage in the world.

I reviewed WCW Saturday Night 11/30/1991 here:
http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2016/04/wcw-saturday-night-11301991-review.htmlOverall thoughts: Not as good as last weeks show but this was serviceable. York Foundation vs Steamboat/Rhodes was good and Cactus/Pillman did a 1991 version of a spotfest. Some awful gimmicks on the show though with Johnny B Badd, The Patriots and Arachniman.

I reviewed one of my childhood favorites today - WCW Saturday Night 11/23/1991
http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2016/04/wcw-saturday-night-11231991-review.html
Some shots from the show:
Overall thoughts: Really good show overall with the formation of the Dangerous Alliance and a hot crowd. We had nice storyline development throughout and MR. HUGHES bumps big.

Did Shane do the 'bring it' thing when they were back in the ring after the jump off the cell?
He did it after the fall then again in the ring

I actually derived some enjoyment out of the show for knowing that it would be awful going in and getting a kick out of just how right I was.
You know, I wasn't going to watch WM, but I was at home and figured "Why not." I'm at the point where I don't have expectations for the main show. Things are not going to change there for many reasons. Something like Sasha not winning or Zayn not winning would have got me fired up even two or three years ago, but now I accept it and move on. They have no interest in anything but making corporate connections with ESPN or whoever, and kudos to them for how well they've been able to do that.
As someone who has only seen one full RAW in six months (the Seattle one where DB retired that I attended) and who did not watch most of FastLane (and what I did watch, two matches, was not while the show was on live), I've learned that I should watch the Rumble, WM, and Summerslam, and Elimination Chamber if they do that show since I love that gimmick so much. Everything else is treading water to get to those first three shows where the results also continue to tread water, but at least there might be some cool entrances or such.
I would assume that most people who watch this show have no actual investment in the characters or booking and have no investment in the matches outside of aesthetics. If you still are invested at this point...then yes, you lost last night. But really, your strategy should be to skip RAW, SD, Main Event, Superstars, and most of the PPVs and just watch individual matches as the people who slog through this stuff post them in the Best WWE Matches or Main Event/Superstars thread when you have time.
About the ladder match: I think that match finally revealed to myself that I don't really enjoy contrived car crash spots and crazy dives for the sake of crazy dives. Guys were killing themselves and doing objectively cool shit that I didn't care about. I can watch wild brawling for the sake of wild brawling or fancy matwork for the sake of fancy matwork, but dives for the sake of dives totally loses me for whatever reason.
The first two paragraphs sounded like you were reading from my brain. I also only saw the DB retirement and stick to NXT specials, Rumble, some of the main events and Mania.

Who is Johnathon Snowden? And what on Earth is he talking about? I'm so confused by everything about that.
Edward's brother. He leaked some of the Mania results early.

I posted this elsewhere on the Reigns thing:
The way WWE is set up right now, it honestly doesn't matter who the top guy is. WWE will not let anyone become larger than life or go mainstream. PPV buys don't matter. WWE is the only promotion for most people, so if they want to see wrestling, they have to go to WWE events. Numbers like TV rights and merch might be up, but that's because of inflation and higher prices, because we don't see Cena/Reigns shirts everywhere like we did with Austin 3:16. WWE isnt seeing this - they just see 94k crowds and think "dayum we are on fi-ahhhh"
WWE isn't going anywhere, but they also aren't going anywhere. They aren't relying on popularity, they are relying on world wide accessibility through the WWE Network and TV deals. You would think they would use this to take some risks and give different guys a chance, but they are using it to do whatever they want instead. As long as they can keep ratings in the 3 million range and keep the network above 1 million buys, they are on cruise control.- 1

I don't watch these live because I value life.
Did they cut the volume on Reigns intro down to "Audio problems" levels once it was clear he was getting booed out of the arena? Because they did on the replay and it's hilarious. Fuck.
But I'm sure it's only smarky smark marks and the BILLIONS of kid fans love him right? It's not an issue right?
Here's the muting, and it's super obvious:

Cena verbally destroying Reigns and then beating him for the title would do great things for Cena.
Watch them STILL not get it and turn Cena heel instead.
Cena vs Reigns to me would be the real indicator of where Reigns stands to them. I don't think they'd let Reigns get the better of him.
-
Don't like or hate Reigns as much as others, but creative I definitely do hate. I'm glad he won last night so we can finally get past his "Wrestlemania moment". Let him sink, swim or let him do Cena-light like he is doing. The crowds responses and stuff aren't clear to Vince that it's not working, so just let him have his run so Vince can get over it.

I was thinking - should WWE's current state be called the - "Vince vs The Fans era"? We're starting to get away from the PG era a bit.
-
I'll get negative comments for sure but I like the idea of WWE trying to start phrases/songs on the trons. Singing is fun and it worked well for Titanes.

Ambrose is just not good. Hid promos are so goofy and cartoony, his seeking is mediocre at best, and his offense is fucking embarrassingly bad. Christ, that was the worst ppv Brock match since Mania 29.
Brock wasn't great. He really did nothing aside from suplexes. Them getting 15 mins or so without any real false finishes was what hurt the match.

I still like Dean and think he should be the one being pushed at the top, he can be good in the ring and a good promo. His match at Roadblock with HHH was probably better than anything on Mania other than the Women's Title match and maybe the Ladder match. But he can be so annoying with his gimmick sometimes that it's distracting. I thought he did his best to look good against Brock too but the layout of Brock's matches have become such a hindrance to getting anyone but Brock over.
I agree with this.
I like Dean. I don't see the problem. His look is fine. His matches are good. He's the most over non-Cena face. He can talk. The only thing I'm seeing is that Vince doesn't have the mancrush on him like Reigns.
Someone please give me a good explanation as to why he's not the man.

I'm not really as mad as I would have been in previous years, I guess because I saw the card and knew it would be bad. The finishes were all pretty bad. Really feels like Vince went out of his way to do things his way and remind us that none of the people we like are real stars.
I'm curious as to what Mania in a few years will look like. Taker's about done. Austin/Foley/Flair/HBK are retired. I guess Rock and HHH have some mania matches left in the tank. They really need to get on you know...building new stars.

I checked out a Stardom match with Diamond/Viper vs Kyoko/Kris Wolf. Kyoko looked awful(and old) and Viper was really disappointing. I was hoping for Earthquake/Bundy or even Sawai, but Viper works so light. Thought she might have had some potential as the resident big girl.
Also sad to see that Stardom has seemingly as many gaijin as they do japanese wrestlers now. If I wanted to watch bad American wrestlers, there's already enough.
