  1. Sign you’re an Aggie - your team has a two touchdown lead, and possession at midfield.  There’s twelve and a half minutes left and you’re playing at home.  You tell yourself “ we’ll, we might have a shot of winning this”

  2. Did my first GTA missions in at least a year over the weekend.  I'd never done the latest Gerald missions, so I figured I'd see what they were about.  Can't remember what the first one was, but I do remember it paid me all of $10K.

Second one was drive to a garage, shoot a bunch of guys, and steal a van.  Then I had to drive the van somewhere, without damaging it too much.  When I got there, I spent forever running around finding action figures in a yellow rectangle.  When I finally spotted the last one, I told myself "at least I won't ever have to do that again".  Then I picked it up, and the game told me to drive the van that can't be damaged too much to the other side of town and do it again, this time while getting shot at.  After I finally did that, I got to drive that stupid van some more without damaging it.  Whole thing probably took 45 minutes to complete, and paid me a whopping $15K.  Then I went back into freemode and drove a pickup two miles for $50K.

Gonna be a while before I do another mission.

  3. I'm really curious what "improper benefits" could even be in recruiting now.  I'm pretty sure buying a player a Coke isn't a violation in an era when Texas can safely spend just about what I paid for my house to entertain a recruit for one weekend.

Welch was where it was rumored to be!

Putting a reactor in Welch would've been an invitation to global nuclear catastrophe.  Place was constantly either on fire and/or being evacuated when I was in grad school.  I was never really sure if the Austin fire department actually refused to continue responding there, or just threatened to.

Reminds me of rumors of there being a nuclear reactor in one of the UT science buildings.

Technically there was - the old Tokamak at the Fusion Research Center was underground pretty much right under the front steps of ENS.  My father helped design the thing.  My parents pulled me out of school, in second grade maybe, to go watch part of the installation one day.  Fun stuff for a second grader to watch.  Apparently it's in China now.

Anyway, Texas doesn't need a reactor.  They've got Welch hall, which is infinitely more dangerous.

A&M has a fission reactor off of the main campus.  Some friends of mine were hanging around outside it drinking one night and got the bright idea to break into the airport next door.  They got one of the little luggage carrier cars started and were driving it out on the runways in the middle of the night.  FBI raided our dorm the next morning.  Glad I missed that.

  6. If you ever thought the team you root for is run by horrible human beings, at least it isn't run by these guys.

The headline itself is bad enough.  It somehow gets worse from there:

Hawthorn racism review to allege that former coaches separated First Nations players from families and demanded a pregnancy termination

  7. My parents still live in the house I grew up in, which means they still have the door they used to mark my height on when I was a kid.  We started putting my son on the door pretty much as soon as he could walk, which means we can compare our respective heights at different ages.  He's 7 1/2 now.  Measured him on there this weekend, since we hadn't done it in a while.  He's barely shorter than I was at 11, and I'm about 6'2''.

He's a big, broad shouldered kid, with wild, bushy hair that's basically impossible to brush.  He also has no filter and absolutely no volume control at all.  Think Brian Blessed as a second grader, that's pretty much what I'm raising.

Weigman is their most talented QB but apparently Jimbo's playbook is so complicated (how hard to hand off 40 times and then dump to RBs and TEs) that they're afraid to rush him.

Let's see YOU map out how to miss all those blocks along the OL, Mr Smart Guy.  It takes work to not account for multiple DL on every play.

The half-life of Jimbo OL play really is something else.

Thing is, this is just normal OL play for A&M.  Has been since the mid 90s.

There is the usual exception, like 2020.  Or when we had Manziel and four first round picks at OL.

But usually it looks like this.  Jimbos weird ability to have terrible OL play fits right in.

App State is putting the fear into Texas A&M right now, too.

That’s putting it mildly.  They’re outplaying the Ags pretty easily. Having watched last week’s gave vs an FCS opponent, I’m not even mildly surprised.

Might be time for Jimbo to admit that last century’s offense isn’t cutting it any longer.  Also, a functional OL would be nice.   Wonder if any of our 649 five star D line recruits can block.

  11. So Saban’s kryptonite is playing in Texas against a team playing its’ injured backup without a viable third stringer?

Was running a kids baseball practice, so I didn’t watch till the last five minutes.  All the Texas fans at the fields were already anticipating being in the playoff this year.

    Vikings cut Kellen Mond

A&M QBs currently on NFL rosters (unless I'm really blanking and forgetting somebody - is Bucky Richardson still playing for the Oilers?)

    - two guys that transferred out the same year.

    - a guy who we mostly played at WR, and who now mostly hands off to Derrick Henry

    That's a heck of a track record.

    In other starting QB news

Texas A&M is going with Haynes King

Ugh.  This does not fill me with confidence.  Small sample size of course, but he did not look good last year.  He looked lost on the field half the time. And had a bad case of happy feet

Yeah, and dehydrating your players to that point is bad for their body and has a long-term, cumulative effect.

Maybe he can borrow Tom Herman's pee charts.

I had no idea AOL still existed. Do you suppose your family is single-handedly keeping them in business?

My mother in law still uses it.  Father in law would if he knew how to turn on their PC.  When I’m 75 years old I’ll probably stick to ridiculously outdated things too.

  16. There's a disturbingly large subset of parents/coaches/etc at kids games that actually think that way.  People with failed athletic ambitions trying to live through their kids.

I coached an 8 and under coach pitch team this spring.  The rules are that play isn't dead till the the ball is back in the pitcher's hands.  Most teams took that to mean that if the ball was in the infield the play was over and they'd hold their baserunners.  But not everybody.  One team decided to take advantage of the actual rule by having their pitcher essentially try to hide anytime the ball was in play.  He'd run off into a corner, turn his back to the play, and make it impossible to throw the ball to him.  Then, they'd have their runners going all the time they could.  In the field, they'd try to hide the ball and physically push my kids off the bases.  Their infielders would stand in the basepaths and try to block the baserunners.

All of that because they desperately needed to win a damn 8u game.  I finally got fed up and said fuck it.  Told my better fielders that when they had the ball they needed to stand in front of the lead baserunner and stare at em till the umpire called time.  And told all my kids not to leave the base for any reason if they couldn't see the ball.  Then I left the field and sat behind the stands for half an inning so I didn't risk becoming that coach.

Funny part of that was I knew all the coaches on the other team.  And I'd been talking to one of em about having his company do the remodeling on my house, which is a fairly extensive, and expensive, project.  My wife beat me to saying hell no to using him after that game - figured if he's being that slimy about a kid's baseball game, there's no way were trusting him on something big.  That was an expensive game for him.

There was also the t-ball all star team my friends' kid was playing on, where their opponent had to forfeit a game after their head coach got kicked out, the assistant who took over got kicked out, and the second assistant spit on the umpire.  Nothing like the police getting called to a t-ball game.

  17. My wife actually answered one of the eleventeen billion daily scam calls we get this afternoon.  This one said US customs had an arrest warrant out for our her arrest.  Would've maybe been a little more believable if the scammer could've actually pronounced her supposed last name (Salazar) remotely correctly.  If I had to guess, I'd say neither of us being able to stop laughing probably told her she wasn't going to get anywhere.  My wife finally annoyed her enough that she hung up on us.
